Are Mumsnet rules just for the little people?

"Troll cries make MNers look silly. If you think the person is not real, you don't have to post - nobody has a gun at your head! If you suspect the person is false and trying to hurt, or get money, tell MNHQ! How terrible if genuine people - people in trouble, people at the end of their tether - come here as their last hope for some help and advice, are savaged and go off again, feeling terrible and that they don't have anywhere left to turn to?"

www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

There is a very real problem on Mumsnet that there are a small group of posters who wilfully ignore this "rule" as and when it suits them. I think the problem is now institutionalised in MN as being the norm and acceptable.

These people just make stuff up about people they've never met. Once they do this other people pile in believing the bullshit, and then acting on it. The troll-hunters also don't seem to stop and think how their assumptions might affect - or even damage the rest of the site. Lets summarise their position: " I am OUTRAGED and APPALLED by something that may or may not have happened but can't be proved, because although I say it did, I won't provide any evidence"

Sometimes this place is more like a bear pit rather than a community of support and OBJECTIVE thinking and response.

They have their bit of fun and when their target gives up - off course they do having been hounded unmercifully - the Hunter claim that proves they were a troll. Disagree with the unters and sooner rather than later they will accuse you of being a man (their ultimate insult) or a troll. A suggestion that you should leave the site usually follows.

The "silent majority" don't put up with this. They just leave...

And what are you implying with the posting patterns - sock puppets? More trolls? Which posters are you referring to? Don't be coy.

dontellimpike · 14/02/2012 12:40

I mean the scientist with the tongue.

Don't forget that many people have seasonal name changes OP. Many posters on this thread for example.

usualsuspect · 14/02/2012 12:41

I've not had a 10-14 day holiday for years so its not me . I did flounce off for a few days though

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/02/2012 12:42

Can I be played by Dawn French, please?

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 12:42

wannabe, possibly. I was thinking someone else (due to the references to a mn hierarchy), but yours is more likely

I want to be the evil hairly legged troll hunter.

SuePurblybilt · 14/02/2012 12:44

I don't UNDERSTAND.
OP clearly has a beef with someone. Someone with a posting pattern. Who?
We're back to the Hide Poster thread aren't we?

ChickensGoMeh · 14/02/2012 12:45

I namechanged a few weeks back too. in honour of a Game of Thrones thread. I was once accused of trolling by someone who didnt understand what a troll was. even when I gave them a list of my usernames, she still kept on.

I also sometimes have a few days off if MN is pissing me off, or RL is busy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/02/2012 12:52

Shabba - to help you with your three year old grandson, allow me to present you with a TeenagerBarrel?. It is, as the name suggests, primarily for use by the parents of teenagers, but I am sure it can be equally well used by the grandparents (or parents) of younger children.

Using the TeenagerBarrel? is easy. Place the teenager (or younger child) into the barrel and nail down the lid. Food and water can be supplied through the bung hole. At a point in the future (decided by you) you can let the child out of the barrel, if he or she has become a civilised member of society, or you can just drive in the bung.

Pleased to be of service! Grin

what is this thread of which we must not speak?

I don't namechange, can't be arsed quite frankly. and as I have no life spend a fair amount of time here, I would say good luck to anyone who wants to spend the time going through all my posts and working out my posting patern. Grin
