Are Mumsnet rules just for the little people?

"Troll cries make MNers look silly. If you think the person is not real, you don't have to post - nobody has a gun at your head! If you suspect the person is false and trying to hurt, or get money, tell MNHQ! How terrible if genuine people - people in trouble, people at the end of their tether - come here as their last hope for some help and advice, are savaged and go off again, feeling terrible and that they don't have anywhere left to turn to?"

www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

There is a very real problem on Mumsnet that there are a small group of posters who wilfully ignore this "rule" as and when it suits them. I think the problem is now institutionalised in MN as being the norm and acceptable.

These people just make stuff up about people they've never met. Once they do this other people pile in believing the bullshit, and then acting on it. The troll-hunters also don't seem to stop and think how their assumptions might affect - or even damage the rest of the site. Lets summarise their position: " I am OUTRAGED and APPALLED by something that may or may not have happened but can't be proved, because although I say it did, I won't provide any evidence"

Sometimes this place is more like a bear pit rather than a community of support and OBJECTIVE thinking and response.

They have their bit of fun and when their target gives up - off course they do having been hounded unmercifully - the Hunter claim that proves they were a troll. Disagree with the unters and sooner rather than later they will accuse you of being a man (their ultimate insult) or a troll. A suggestion that you should leave the site usually follows.

The "silent majority" don't put up with this. They just leave...

THREE important questions SDTG. I asked her why she keeps c+ping the same thing (her responses, not the MN rules) but I was IGNORED

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 14/02/2012 10:53

wannabe, if that was happening on here then that would be reported to HQ and they would be investigated and banned. apart from that, there isn't much that can stop people who are very low being picked up on by manipulators, by definition they are low... that's a rl issue as well and falls to families and friends to help them. but do not let your outrage prevent you from acting correctly on here.

wannaBe · 14/02/2012 10:59

oooh, banned? What did you do?

Yep some of my deletions are about the catholic church - some about sn/termination, one about santa hve no idea what that was about. Grin

usualsuspect · 14/02/2012 11:00

I had some about santa as well , but I think loads of people got deleted on that thread

noddyholder · 14/02/2012 11:00

I said something a madeleine mccann thread which was direct from a friends son who had worked over there on the case as a trainee jr reporter!

Yes it was Maryz , I remember your outrage Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 14/02/2012 11:09

I think I've only ever had one deletion.
Can you check that for me, OP?
TIA

its the problem with a bigger site, yes there are some fab newer posters, but also a few funny buggers who either expect snuggles and kisses or want a fight.

noddyholder · 14/02/2012 11:38

pmsl @ snuggles and kisses

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 11:39

Oh I fancy a fight....a proper good old fashioned 'Big Daddy' style wrestling match...Grin

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 11:42

shabs, I am sticking with silly threads, my mning experience is so much better at the mo!

HopeEternal · 14/02/2012 11:44

The closest I've come to being an evil troll hunter was a couple of weeks ago when I posted on a thread I found suspicious something along the lines of "As you're brand new to MN, you probably aren't aware..."

At least one poster pulled me up on that.

The thread was deleted the next day because the OP wasn't all she appeared to be. (Or whatever the MNHQ wording is for "Yes, we think you're right. This poster does live under a bridge.")

Shamefully, I can't recall ever having a post deleted...

Wine for anyone sad enough to go through my posting history and prove me wrong.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/02/2012 11:57

Sorry Sjue - there were two questions (and a supplementary) that she'd already been asked, and then I thought of a new one too. I thought it was better to put them all in the one post, so she could ignore them all together.

And I did mean to come and reply to your question about the repeating post - it seemed to me that that was her way of avoiding answering any of the questions that had been put to her.

Btw - does anyone like my point that making a point of how many posts are made-up, on a very dramatic thread, does look awfully like trollhunting, so madam is actually guilty of the very thing of which she disapproves? I was quite pleased with that one. [needy]

Portofino · 14/02/2012 12:05

Yes, Op isn't so keen on answering questions.

AnyFucker · 14/02/2012 12:10

is OP providing a deletion-count service ?

because I'd be interested to know how many I had

I would pay a token amount, of course

veryworried29 · 14/02/2012 12:13

SDTG and Portofino you have both done sterling work in pointing out the irony of the op's stance on this thread. Well done, Thanks and Brew for both of you.

I have been on the thread earlier but have had to n/c for today, but that's a whole other story.

Portofino · 14/02/2012 12:13

I would that was over and above the call of duty AF Wink

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 12:14

would the OP count the ones in chat? after all, those posts only hang around for 90 days.
