Are Mumsnet rules just for the little people?

"Troll cries make MNers look silly. If you think the person is not real, you don't have to post - nobody has a gun at your head! If you suspect the person is false and trying to hurt, or get money, tell MNHQ! How terrible if genuine people - people in trouble, people at the end of their tether - come here as their last hope for some help and advice, are savaged and go off again, feeling terrible and that they don't have anywhere left to turn to?"

www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

There is a very real problem on Mumsnet that there are a small group of posters who wilfully ignore this "rule" as and when it suits them. I think the problem is now institutionalised in MN as being the norm and acceptable.

These people just make stuff up about people they've never met. Once they do this other people pile in believing the bullshit, and then acting on it. The troll-hunters also don't seem to stop and think how their assumptions might affect - or even damage the rest of the site. Lets summarise their position: " I am OUTRAGED and APPALLED by something that may or may not have happened but can't be proved, because although I say it did, I won't provide any evidence"

Sometimes this place is more like a bear pit rather than a community of support and OBJECTIVE thinking and response.

They have their bit of fun and when their target gives up - off course they do having been hounded unmercifully - the Hunter claim that proves they were a troll. Disagree with the unters and sooner rather than later they will accuse you of being a man (their ultimate insult) or a troll. A suggestion that you should leave the site usually follows.

The "silent majority" don't put up with this. They just leave...

Miss marple has nothing on you!

frasersmummy · 14/02/2012 09:19

Jesus I cant believe you are going through everyone's posts on here

if that isnt troll hunting I dont know what is....

I had forgotten about your banning Shabs ...I think mn towers were suprised by our little protest.. Grin

but I think this proves the best of mn .. you had an argument.. you said something someone didnt approve of and were reported mn towers stepped in and as they were short staffed annd unsure of the circumstances they stopped you temporarily. They then listened to you and others on their board and they acted appropriately.. job done !!!

it proves that the system works if things are handled properly

usualsuspect · 14/02/2012 09:20

lol shabba, i remember that - you were banned by mistake, it was a clerical error over a weekend. Grin hardly nelson mandela.

Portofino · 14/02/2012 09:54

Yes - it is strange to me how a few of us were discussing one particular subject on another thread, and all of a sudden a brand new poster seems to think those self same posters should be banned for crimes against MN. Hmm

Pot kettle springs to mind.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 09:54

AITCH!!!! Ive not seen you in yonks, how the divil are you?

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 09:55

redlac · 14/02/2012 09:56

I've never had a post deleted however my thread was deleted last night due the quality of the jokes supplied by Tufty and AF. Was a serious thread too

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 09:57

I got an apology from MNHQ once because they were a bit trigger happy and deleted a comment telling someone to stop behaving like a twat. I was incensed. I left for 24 whole hours. then I finished the housework and switched the pooter back on.

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 09:58

Yeah Aitch - you know the saying 'Where there's a blame there's a claim' MNHQ caused me mental suffering over that weekend. I was also the butt of my RL friends jokes and laughter. They kept making me try to log in MN just to see a white screen with the words FORBIDDEN at the top of them. Some mental and emotional scars dont heal easily you know!!!

Portofino · 14/02/2012 09:58

Now that french knitting. It is pointless, non? What are you supposed to do with loads of multi-coloured woolen tubes?

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 09:59
shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 10:00

Make them into scarves for any cold multi-coloured worms in the Winter????

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 10:02

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2012 10:14

Portofino · 14/02/2012 10:17

OracleInaCoracle · 14/02/2012 10:19
