Would it be possible to list the OP of the thread as well as the last poster within Active Convos?

GetOrf · 07/11/2011 12:44

If you go into a particular topic, this is how the list of threads is laid out - both names and date/time of OP and last poster.

Please can active convos be laid out in the same way?

You can then see threads started by liars and dickheads people you don't care for, and click hide immediately.

Pascha · 07/11/2011 12:46

Yes please. I would still look at the liars and dickheads threads though, because i'm too nosey.

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 07/11/2011 12:47

see, if i had known it was you that started this i wouldn't have clicked Wink

(i agree BTW)

NettoSuperstar · 07/11/2011 12:47

Good idea. I open them and then find I can't stop reading.
They make me feel all grubby.

nickelbabe · 07/11/2011 12:48

GetOrf - anyone would think you aren't happy with MN Wink

GrimmaTheNome · 07/11/2011 12:48

I've sometimes thought this would be a good idea (eg to better guess if a thread with a silly title is worth opening), but then wondered if it could lead to (more) cliqueiness.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 07/11/2011 12:50

Great idea IMO.

CaptainKirksNipples · 07/11/2011 13:01

It may be too much work for MN for every thread when we only really want to avoid a certain TLES poster!

CaptainKirksNipples · 07/11/2011 13:01

But i totally agree!

CaptainKirksNipples · 07/11/2011 13:04

If thats not possible Could we have a wee thumbs up thumbs down indicator at the side for people that have read a thread to let everyone else know if it is worth reading?

GetOrf · 07/11/2011 13:10

nickelbabe I am a demanding cow customer, aren't I Grin

I think it should be possible - like I say this is what the topics lists look like (say if you went into topics, clicked AIBU, it will show the OP and the last poster). Well it does in MN new anyway, I don't know about Classic.

However, I don't know how many people use the talk boards in this way i.e. go into individual topics. Surely most people use active convos, don't they?

This would be a good change I think.

thousandDenier · 07/11/2011 13:20

I'm not sure about this - it might mean that less well-known or new posters get ignored in favour of threads started by MN Faces.

GetOrf · 07/11/2011 13:25

I don't think it would be like that thousand (well, not in my case anyway). I usually read threads based on the title. I wouldn't use this facility to select threads to read based on my favourite mumsnetters, but rather the opposite, would use it to select threads to hide because they are started by fools and fuckwits people who wind me up.

OP posts:
HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 07/11/2011 13:27

same here getorf. i dont actually have anyone on here who i consider a 'favourite' (i dont know anyone well enough) so for me it would be used for hiding threads i knew were going to suck all my energy for the next 3 days.

debka · 07/11/2011 13:28

I never knew you could do that in Customise- show the OP of the post!

Now my MN looks all different.

Thanks GOML :)

DreamsOfSteam · 07/11/2011 13:28

surely the new faces should get stuck in with old faces and stop lurking and thus become well known faces themselves.

GetOrf · 07/11/2011 13:31

It's good isn't it? I really like it. But I can never be arsed to go into the topics lists, I tend to want to read any old thread despite the topic, so to have it in active convos would be great.

It would also have the added benefit of showing when the thread was started, so if someone (for some baffling reason) wanted to bump a thread from 2005 it will be immediately visible.

Plus it would lessen the MN wars. If I just hide certain threads, I am less likely to go on the thread and say something sneery at the OP.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/11/2011 13:31

a bit like they do it here

nickelbabe · 07/11/2011 13:33

(i didn't know you could do it at all.... Confused )

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/11/2011 13:33

No, no, no!

One of the things I like about MN (despite people wailing about MN Royalty) is that everybody has an equal chance of their thread receiving responses.

A big reason for that is that there's no Started By, as there is on other forums - you have to open a thread before you see who the author is. New people and quieter people really would get overlooked I think.

Trills · 07/11/2011 13:34

I agree - yes please

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/11/2011 13:38

Oh - I see I am the only person in the world who didn't know you could choose the see the OP (I use sober workplace though).

I don't like it though Angry

As you were...

GetOrf · 07/11/2011 13:41

I didn't know this is what happens on other forums - I only use mumsnet. Does it mean then that only threads by popular mumsnetters get answered? I don't think that would happen here to be honest (naive, perhaps).
