PiccadillyCircus · 26/10/2005 13:59

Glad it's not just me .

ddd · 28/10/2005 00:07

Me too! Me too! It's dreadful isn't it?

However, whilst we all get ready to scream blue murder, here's a few numbers to mull over.

Number of people moaning on this thread: 44

Number that have made a small financial contribution to the upkeep of mumsnet: 8

Number of days out of the last 7 when I have worked for more than 24 hours straight to resolve these problems (which were mailcious attacks on the network on which mumsnet is hosted): 2

Amount of money I've been paid by mumsnet for doing it (in pounds): 0

Number of other times that mumsnet has been unavailable for more than a few minutes in the last few YEARS due to these kind of problems: 0

hunkerpumpkin · 28/10/2005 00:13

ddd, there's something about the timbre of your post that I find a bit disconcerting and un-MN-like.

But since I don't (and won't) pay subs to MN, I can't really comment, can I?

hunkerpumpkin · 28/10/2005 00:14

PS - thank you for all your hard work

spookylucy · 28/10/2005 00:21

Well thats told us! Thanks for all the hard work, you dont really think about behind the scenes. Sorry

LadyTophamHatt · 28/10/2005 06:57

been doing it here too.

Don't worry though ddd, I have paid subs so I'm ok to bring it up!!

tech · 28/10/2005 08:12

Now that's told you all. Don't go biting hands that are handing out freebies and looking them in the mouth horse-style

Despite my not having noticed any problem , it seems there have been.

Anyway, as ddd said, we have enjoyed remarkably stable hosting over the last few years, and that is down to his hard work. Mumsnet wouldn't have survived without his support, so I think some cheers are in order.

Unfortunately, there are some nasty people out there who think it's fun to try bring services down by flooding them with traffic so that they can't respond to genuine requests - it sounds like this is what's been happening. If the site's not available, try again 10 minutes later. If you are worried about losing a message you've written, select it all with your mouse and copy it to your computer's clipboard (Ctrl-C on Windows, Apple-C on Mac), then you can paste it into a new message when you try again (Ctrl-V on Windows, Apple-V on mac).

In these diffficult times, we need to be showing some blitz spirit. [Adopt 40s accent] Hunker down ladies, they won't beat us with their cowardly attacks. We shall prevail.

Lossa love,
Tech

PS I did think specifying the currency of the zero was a nice touch.

LadyTophamHatt · 28/10/2005 08:22

Is ddd one of MNHQ then?

I feel like a naughty schoolgirl after that telling off!
