Surely if the MN team feel that strongly about the lack of people paying subs then it should be compulsory!
I was surpeised by the tone of DDD's post

We've had this discussion before Spring Chicken. If paying subs was compulsory then there are many of us who would not be able to continue using it . I would LOVE to pay subs but atm am borrowing my dd's pocket money to buy food so it's out of the question I'm afraid.

Miaou, it is for me too I don't pay subs either.
The point i was trying to make was that if DDD feels that strongly about their hard work and only the people who pay subs have the right to point out when something is wrong, then maybe they should make it complusory.
If they did - I wouldn't be using Mumsnet anymore.

Yeah, there are lots of us in this position - but I really appreciate that it is a difficult one for those that bust a gut for mumsnet and do it for free. The discussion goes round and round with no solution really.

I wasn't suggesting that everyone or indeed anyone must pay anything. If you can, that's great but either way it doesn't make a difference to what you can post.

I was just pointing out that behind the scenes there are problems which we work hard to fix (and 'Tech' does far more work than I do) and I suggest that perhaps a few hours of downtime once in a blue moon needs to be kept in perspective.

Now, back to the mumsnet you know and love...

I thought the messages people sometimes post re mumsnet being slow etc were just informational, I appreciate it if I'm told about problems with my website because i don't use it myself it might be ages before i noticed otherwise (I have paid a small sub so I hope i can comment)

I'm feeling fluffier than last night, so will shower big hugs and mwahs around at those wonderful people behind the scenes who allow me to post this kind of drivel whenever I want

Still not paying subs though. Have mouths to clothe and bodies to feed. Or something.

Who is ddd? Tech says it's a "he".

Whoever you are, mystery person, I feel I should say thank you. I'm always amazed how reliable and quick mn is, and I guess a lot of this is down to you and Tech ... I think Tech is plural now isn't he/she/they? (Though I have to say I'm completely out of my depth with language of hosting, and servers, and all the rest of it.)

So there you go I have no real idea of what you do, but that probably just increases my awe and gratitude Cheers!

Hi di hi,
To clarify ddd is very kind mate of Tech's who has hosted mumsnet with aplomb for a good while as an act enormous kindness (many cheers ddd). Should point out though that ddd is not from MNHQ, and his post was not representative of our views.

Please do keep us posted about any site problems you are experiencing, it's very helpful to know so we can try and sort them out asap.

And many apologies for the inconveniences of last week.

MNHQ xxx
