I am Not liking this 'only the last 5 posts' visible in my Threads I'm on. Not one little bit.

Means If there has been 9 posts since I posted I have to waste valuable tme and clicking energy scrolling up and down.

well we have a pleasing rounded edged box now.

Dear Tech.

If you think that will appease me you are sorely mistaken.

Where's the round edged box then?
I have a newly different message set up - it no longer types in courier, it types in arial (or similar) and all the smileys have moved below it; and it says "create message" instead of "post message" (why?)

Very exciting but WHY HAVE WE STILL ONLY GOT 5 MESSAGES??

DamianTech · 23/03/2011 10:45

Hi all,

Sorry to not have responded earlier. Your concerns regarding Threads I'm On have been taken on board and you can expect some updates to it soon. We plan to add a new preference that will let you choose the number of replies to show, which will default to the old values of 5 on New, and 100 on Classic, but can be set to any value you like for either.

NetworkGuy · 23/03/2011 11:25

8"it says "create message" instead of "post message" (why?)"
Spotted that at some late hour and thought, WTF, I'm not starting a new thread, so why does it say CREATE ?

CrevixAlopogies · 23/03/2011 11:33

Damian darling, you are superb.

Kewcumber · 23/03/2011 11:36

why is DamianTech not appearing in a funny blue colour? [suspicious emoticon] Is he on probation? DO you have to earn the mumsnet blue panel?

thumbwitch · 23/03/2011 11:41

Cervix, are you now a Crevix? Whyzzat then?

Kewc, the techs aren't allowed to have the royal blue of the MNHQ - dunno why, I think they should.

Damian - thank you for your message - any idea how much longer we will have to wait biting our nails and grinding our teeth?

Oh and by the by, there are still problems with the multi italics and bolds randomly not functioning properly and highlighting the wrong bits of text...

DamianTech · 23/03/2011 11:46

Create message/Post message was an oversight, it'll be back to the original wording soon.

I think I've mentioned before, but the main reason Techs aren't blue is that it'd take Tech work to sort it out, and we're more interested in making things better for you guys rather than ourselves. :)

I don't have any estimate on when the changes will occur, we try not to restart the site more often than is necessary as it tends to give our members grief, plus these things need to be subject to proper testing and so on before we put them up live.

Bold/italic formatting is being looked into, afraid I can't be any more specific than that at the moment.

CrevixAlopogies · 23/03/2011 11:50

~D why do you not have any photos on your profile? not that i'm stalking you or anything.....

thumbwitch · 23/03/2011 11:52

but Damian, lovely tech person, it DOES help us to see your delightful posts in a different colour so we know when you've replied to our constant nagging requests - it's not to stroke your egos, y'know, it's for us...

Am really enjoying being able to spot the OP's posts, my own posts and MNHQ's posts - so "spot the tech's posts" would just be the cherry on top. :)

NetworkGuy · 23/03/2011 11:52

"these things need to be subject to proper testing and so on before we put them up live"

Would be really nice to get some advance notice (or even be asked if such changes are wanted before doing them). Seems like the last half dozen significant changes have been met with suprise, dislike, argument, and then some further change(s) were needed to get MNetters back "on side" to agree that the change wasn't totally useless and unnecessary...

Or am I being too judgemental about change being "not always" desirable ?

thumbwitch · 23/03/2011 11:55

NWG - you make a good point. Where is the driving force for the changes coming from? Surely you're not taking notice of newbies coming on here and "helpfully" offering ways in which to update the site, because they mostly get their heads sat on in short order and told to feck off to sites that suit them better - WE like it the way it is!

NetworkGuy · 23/03/2011 11:55

(by the way, there's still a bug in viewing next/previous message from the list of PM 'sent messages'... view a message, then clicking either next or previous to see another message gives only the list of messages again... was that a pre-Christmas bug?)

DamianTech · 23/03/2011 12:33

@NetworkGuy: I appreciate your concern, but if we started a vote on every little change we want to make on the site nothing would ever get done. And Mumsnet does need to move forward, if nothing ever changes the site will never grow.

While it's very important to maintain the current look-and-feel (I hate tickers Grin), we also want to improve things and make the site feel more welcoming for everyone who uses it. We try and maintain Classic in its current time-capsule-esque state, but some changes must happen, for instance, making the site accessible to those who use screen readers. This can affect Classic too, though we hope in a good (and as minimal as possible) way.

As always, we appreciate your feedback, but we do have to do what's best for Mumsnet, that is our job after all!

Re: the PM thing, if you have no more messages beyond/before the one you're reading, hitting the prev/next buttons will take you back to the Inbox. Possibly this is what you're referring to?

NetworkGuy · 23/03/2011 14:19

OK, a poll on each and every would be grinding, but unless part of the changes are to make mobile versions work better (which may be excused, to some extent), there do seem to be some "change for change sake" modifications and then a 'backlash' when users are confused.

There should be some gentler way to make people aware, or does MN Towers like to annoy users by some minor and some major changes ? Or are the modifications coming from the Tech brainstorming sessions and MNHQ just gets the flak ?

As for PM 'sent' messages, I have dozens but to skim up/down is impossible because I get sent back to the flaming list every time I hit up or down for 'previous/next' message.

It was OK on Inbox not Sent, before New Year (when I moaned about it being faulty), and as far as I know is still fine on Inbox but fails on Sent messages.

NetworkGuy · 23/03/2011 14:21

(Hint: I go to the middle of the first page of messages and neither up nor down works. I can repeat it until the cows come home.)

PenguinArmy · 24/03/2011 01:49

If the order of the threads 'I'm on' is going to change to when someone else last posted on it, rather then me, then can there be a option to remove thread from the list. There have been quite a few threads that I posted on, that I no longer care about, but don't want to hide. A bit like the facebook option where you can remove certain things from your feed.

thank you

HelenMumsnet · 29/03/2011 14:22

Hello. We've made a few changes in Threads I'm On.

Now you can customise your options to select how many replies you want to see. And (as before) customise how many days you want Threads I'm On to check back.

NetworkGuy · 29/03/2011 15:03

thanks

thumbwitch · 30/03/2011 00:50

Thank you Helen! And Techs-who-did-it - it's much better now. :)
