Question about the UKIP webchat...

Why were all the links posted by Nigel Farage and the other UKIP newbies in a different format to normal?

They were in black type with a dotted line underneath and if you hovered over them it said 'click to see the full link'.

Is this a new thing? Or is it evidence they were in fact all the same poster?

Hi all,

This was a feature added recently. Links that are too long are shortened so that they fit better on the page, e.g. www.example.com/this/is/a/really/really/really/long/link/

This does not apply to long links that are using the double-bracket syntax, e.g. www.example.com/another/semi/long/link/.

Incidentally, we also removed the character limit break so that links won't get pulled apart if they're over a certain length.
