What's the policy on sockpuppets?

JaneS · 21/02/2011 13:22

I've looked that the 'trolls' policy thing, but what exactly is the policy on sockpuppets? Is it considered trolling, or will HQ just ignore it?

Thanks. Smile

What is one?

YunoYurbubson · 21/02/2011 13:24

I find you have to sew the button eyes on very securely if you are going to let small children play with them.

Hth.

PeterAndreForPM · 21/02/2011 13:25

MNHQ have deleted threads in the past for sock puppetry

there was a recent one where they came on to explain that two of the posters were in fact, one and the same person

they take a dim view of it, unless it's a jokey, harmless thing

quite often it's malicious though

PedlarsSpanner · 21/02/2011 13:25

report the SP as you would a troll

MNHQ always interested, and rely on users to patrol and report anything a bit suss

PeterAndreForPM · 21/02/2011 13:26

if you think you have spotted it, report it in the usual way

JaneS · 21/02/2011 13:32

Grin at Yuno.

Peter, I have reported it. I just wondered afterwards if it was the right thing to do, or if HQ would think I was being rude so wanted to check. They've not replied yet, and I wondered as well if maybe they don't reply if it turns out the reporting person has got it wrong (which I may well have done). I've never reported for that reason before - only ever for offensiveness - so I'm not familiar with it all.

Crikey poledra , you are eagle-eyed!

I was going to try my first ever name change yesterday. I was going to post on the how much do you get paid thread.
But I felt too much of a wanker because of the subject matter and because name changing felt very weird.

I didn't realise I hadn't done a straight change back.

You don't miss anything....spooky

What's a sock puppet?

google not helping me

I keep gettign larry the fukcin lamb

PedlarsSpanner · 21/02/2011 13:44

clarn, a sockpuppet is an alter ego created by a poster to back themselves up, using the namechanging facility

Clarnico · 21/02/2011 13:44

Thank you!

JaneS · 21/02/2011 13:45

Clarnico - when posters A and B are having a barney, sometimes, a poster C will suddenly pop up to say 'ooh, wow, poster A is so wise'. Usually of course it's just because A and C naturally agree, but sometimes it's because poster A has done a swift namechange and posted appearing to agree with herself.

Such posters are called 'sockpuppets'.
