The interactive dettol adverts are ruining my mumsnet - how can I get rid of them?

Nightmare annoying things with their scary music and loud volume. I can't work out how to exit/close/shut them up and have been forced to mute my laptop volume. This is a problem because I like to listen to stuff on the radio through the computer whilst mumsnetting. How can I get rid of these insanely annoying intrusions?

Me too! You don't have to ask for them to start like most videos - they just begin on every page they're on. Please sort it out. If I hear Sarah Beeny saying Fact once more in a doom laden voice, I shall start to go off her and I really don't want that to happen.

fluffles · 17/01/2011 08:52

that's exactly what i came here to say too. will be leaving the site if they don't stop. i do not want to have to mute my laptop to stop them and they're loud and intrusive (not to mention repetitive).

big big mistake.

Pan · 17/01/2011 08:57

I am sure it's a really good income stream for the site, and not having an option to get rid of it may be part of the deal with the company.

Still, would wish to. It is tres annoying.

Pan · 17/01/2011 08:59

FACT!

FanellaFidge · 17/01/2011 09:15

"Your child will die if you don't buy our product"

I'm sure it featured in the most annoying advert thread not long ago...and now here it is being rammed down our throats!

FanellaFidge · 17/01/2011 09:16

and Cillit Bang.

It must be a joke...that was in the same thread Hmm

BecauseImWorthIt · 17/01/2011 09:17

Eh? I'm not getting any of these ads! (Although that seems like it's probably a good thing!)

Tee2072 · 17/01/2011 09:18

Adblock plus is free and easy to install and will block all ads.

Yes, MN will lose revenue, but if they keep using such obnoxious ads, I can't seem to care. Sorry MN.

weegiemum · 17/01/2011 09:18

This is also driving me insane and stopping me listening to the radio. Totally putting me off mumsnet!

AND - if you wash your hands AFTER you touch the dirty pump it won't matter.

AND - I live in a soft water area - I don't have limescale!

Off to read a different forum, with less intrusive ads!

upahill · 17/01/2011 09:18

Northerlurker....... Same here! I like to have itunes or Planet Rock on and then this bloody stupid talking comes over it! I have left the site several times now because of it.

juuule · 17/01/2011 09:19

Driving me mad too.

FetchezLaVache · 17/01/2011 09:19

Yep- I'm really annoyed by these too. They've just woken my baby up and I'm really rather f*ed off about that. I've muted my laptop, but I'd rather not have had "FACT" bellowed at me in the first place. Fact.

AnnaWulf · 17/01/2011 09:20

I totally agree. I will absolutely have to leave this site if these are not got rid of. Can't hear R4 over them!

FFS, what a stupid idea.

upahill · 17/01/2011 09:21

I'm finding the adverts that 'flash' from one page to another a bad distracation as well. There's that one with the baby face that keeps gurning at me. The adverts become counter-productive and turn me off looking at them to find out what they are about and make me switch MN off.

huffythethreadslayer · 17/01/2011 09:22

Driving me mad too. Scared the bejesus out of me, suddenly booming a few minutes after I'd clicked into a thread. It took me a while to sort out where it was coming from. Just switched off my pop-up blocker, then switched it back on again and it seems to have stopped. If it hasn't, it's bye bye Mumsnet from me for a while. I can't bear having ads forced down my throat!

RebeccaMumsnet · 17/01/2011 09:23

Thank you all for posting. Sorry, we will take a look.

feedme · 17/01/2011 09:25

is anyone from MN going to respond about these adverts? I can put up with the non audio one but find it really annoying to have the sound as well, with no visible way of stopping it as well. Response please

huffythethreadslayer · 17/01/2011 09:27

I emailed separately before anyone from Mumsnet posted on here. It's THAT annoying. I don't normally email anyone about anything like this, but lordy...loud ads screaming doom and gloom at me when I'm doing my 5 minute catch up on the world is bang out of order.

loopylou6 · 17/01/2011 09:31

Totally agree. I've been here for many years and never complained, but if they don't get rid of these annoying adds that scared the living day lights out if me, I will be de registering.

ProfYaffle · 17/01/2011 09:33

I really, really love my ad blocker Smile

feedme · 17/01/2011 09:34

OMG I've just realised that they come on everytime time you go into a new forum WTF! So does your response, Rebecca, mean that MN had no idea that this was going to happen, and that Dettol sneaked it on without you knowing anything about it - goodness me how rude of them.

LadyBiscuit · 17/01/2011 09:39

I have installed ad blocker and it doesn't make them go away. I just got a Cillit Bang one too. I don't want to interact with your bloody advert and I am not interested in cleaning products Angry

The3Bears · 17/01/2011 09:41

The cillit bang one just scared the crap out off me Ive muted :)

Pan · 17/01/2011 09:41

Mine seem to have stopped. I just nagged it away.

loonyrationalist · 17/01/2011 09:42

I've recently changed to use Chrome instead of Opera as my web browser. Changing back to Opera just for MN has eliminated the problem.

I agree though flashing adverts are bad enough but I do understand that they are necessary to fund the site. Noisy adverts are too much & if I hadn't found the opera solution I would have stopped using MN too.

ProfYaffle what are you using?
