Abbreviations and gender focus

clutha · 27/12/2010 06:27

My fiance and i joined mumsnet seperately but dont post very often, as we both have difficulty comprehending posts, due to the abbreviations.

We are both seasoned forum users, and are well versed in acronymns common to fora.
However, those on mumsnet seem unique to mumsnet.

Is their a guide for these?

Also as the propsective father, I am interested to know if mumsnet is so called as it is a forum geared up specifically for mothers, as opposed to parents?
Hence why their is a section for women's rights, but not men's rights, as one example.

Does this mean that mumsnet isnt set up for myself, but i should be frequenting a 'parentsnet'?
And if so, can you reccommend a forum for this?

You said grammer Nazis were a pet hate during your answer to someone who corrected your use of their and there, it was not a question.

No, that was a suplementary sentence written (clearly made in jest, btw) +++after+++ I +asked+(question) Mungo(??)if the post re there v their was meant for me?
You have just jumped to your own conclusion.

I didn't say you wouldn't prefer a parenting site, I said maybe a site you already prefer, that has all the things you have said you prefer to have, has a parents section and maybe you would be happier there.

Now, if you had used the arrangments of words above, i would have replied, no thanks, the point of searching for a parents forum is because I am looking for a parents forum!
Just like i said in my first post. Wink
I may have also then replied with that knowledge in mind, what an odd thing for you to ask me.

I would have also told you my forums dont have parenting sections, and also asked you whom said i was less happy on here?

Re you point about the acronyms list, i did ignore that.
So I apologise.
Mind you, half of what I have said has either been ignored or misinterpreted throughout this thread, so Im sure you will forgive me one common infraction. Wink

The answer is i have looked at it, but havent had time, as yet, to study it enough yet to have memorised them all.
It still raises the point, for me at least, that a forum should be a point for easy lesuire, not a job of ongoing work.
From that Point of view, although I will get round to it, i am not easily inclined toward looking up translation services everytime the forum language is incomprehensible.
I would not expect to do that with text speak, would anyone?
So dont see the difference.
Its interesting to have found out the translater was put up their because people had trouble following posts.
So I am not making an obsrvation that is unreasonable, new, or all that controversial.
It is obviously an MN issue anyway...as i said, there is another thead about this now.

As to why you are wasting your time here, no idea either!

Sure, if you want to carry on being all strawman about and read what you want to read?

Good God, who is this muppet?

well, with his strawman insistence to repeatedly reinterpet the meanings of my posts to suit his own ends, i must confess, the same thought had also crossed my mind

WTF is with all the +++++ ? Confused

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 01/01/2011 15:23

Clearly it was clearly in jest or else I would have got the joke.

Sorry if you did nit understand my meaning when I suggested you looked at your existing forums to see if you liked their parenting sections. You do not seem very happy, and I'm not sure why that is an odd thing.

You don't need to memerise the whole thing, just refer as and when it'll sink much quicker that way. Also think the point about needing a list because people can't understand what's being said is a bit chicken and the egg.

I do not understand the strawman comment.

Think that everything, but I'm on my iPhone so every easy for me to miss things.

clutha you may find \link{http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/expeditions/mariana/images/annsoupy/kids-easter%20soupy%20closeup.jpg\this information useful}

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 01/01/2011 15:24

Clearly it was not clear

Blackduck · 01/01/2011 15:26

I'd like to know that too soupy.......something that is clearly used on his other fora :)

clutha · 01/01/2011 15:27

Hi Soup dragon
sorry about the annoying +++

im feeling forced to enthisise my words, as they are being so readily distorted.

i chose those instead of the bad nettique shouty capitals

This has to be the dullest arguement discussion in the history of mn Hmm

clutha · 01/01/2011 15:45

LoveBeingADaddysGirl

Clearly it was clearly in jest or else I would have got the joke.

The point is grammar nazis ARE one of my pet hates. Which would inform mungo (sorry if thats wrong?) i just dont care about her there V their thing.
But i made that comment in a friendly banterish way, hence the smiley i used.

However, that wasnt the point of the post i made, which was all about me ASKING Mungo if she was actually referring to me.

Hence that being the main body of that post, the grammer nazi jab being tagged at the end.

Thus, nowhere did i say to Mungo (??) I object ot being attacked by grammar nazis.
You took the detail out of its context and made that the meaning.

Actually, grammar nazis can point out what they like to me, i dont care, i will just reply that its not something im interested in. (For the reasons i already posted a few pages back)

Sorry if you did nit understand my meaning when I suggested you looked at your existing forums to see if you liked their parenting sections. You do not seem very happy, and I'm not sure why that is an odd thing.

Well, it is an odd thing to ask me if i would be happier looking for a non-parenting forum that contains a parenting section, when my very first opening post on this thread asked people to recommend parenting forums!

The only thing I am actually unhappy about is people like yourself whom keep insisting on distorting my words or telling me i have said things i havent even said, so they can direct points at me which have nothing to do wih me.

Then stop engaging me in further discussions.

Please tell you df to come back I think she'll have lots to contribute.

Eh???

I was just about to say the same thing to you when you complaned abot a boring argument

It wasnt me that resurrected the thread, i was sorted thanks.
It was YOU that kept telling ME all these i have should or shouldnt do, based upon things i have never posted in the first place.

Thus, im just replying and correcting.

naturally, i will stop replying and correcting if you stop posting stuff that has nothing to do with me

I asked my girlfriend if she would come back, told her about the acronsyms translator.

She said no thanks, its too much like hard work, she is just going to stick to her regular forums, which dont have heavy acronym use.

OP posts:
clutha · 01/01/2011 16:07

PS - i take it you meant GF?

OP posts:
LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 01/01/2011 16:25

Not even going to take a guess @ df? You are very literal, it's darling fiancée.

As to your other post sorry didn't finish it got bored.

clutha · 01/01/2011 16:39

oh ok, i truly thought that was a typo for GF?
on the basis D = dear, Dear friend?
Dear female?

i figured, surely not?

LOL

i wouldnt dream as referring to my girlfriend as Dear Fiance in any context...its a bit, well, strange.
she would find it a bit weird as well.

and i couldnt even find that one in the translator

Grin

cant say im surprised you have opted for the no comment policy as regards the rest of it.

does that mean, being so bored n'all, you will cease inititiating extraneous erroneous posts?

OP posts:
clutha · 01/01/2011 16:41

-darling fiance even

OP posts:
LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 01/01/2011 16:53

I know you like to correct errors, it's not dear fiancée, it's darling fiancée.

I hope you are having a laugh with your posts cause ffs they are long. Is that how you normally talk? Let me know how that goes down with your toddler in a couple of years.

WhereAmIWhereAreYou · 01/01/2011 16:54

Clutha, when your baby arrives you will find you have a lot less time on your hands. This may not be an altogether bad thing.
