Here

Yes, I know there are many, many threads about this issue. I thought this warrented attention.

OP posts:

Have just caught up on all this. Have been away for a few days and knew nothing of this. I must admit when I saw the ad initially it saddened me not because of what it is for but what it purports to do. Am glad the ad will be pulled and tbh can't understand why MN needs to have such an ad. It makes so much money from other things, I know MN purports to make small amoutns of money from subs but what about all the book proceeds and surely they made some money from that tv programme recently. I could be on the wrong thread saying this as there as so many threads runningon this subject at the moment.

Will MN be in legal bother over this.

I am loathe to log on to the Milupa website although I want to express my anger and will do so one way or another.
I am worried about receiving nonsense about baby food and formula as a member of their foolish 'club'.
Has anyone else done so?

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 20:01

I'm tempted to join - want to see what they send you, tbh. In fact, I may go and register now...

IMHO It will be very sad if MumsNet Towers get into trouble for this

edam · 25/08/2005 21:00

Well, if you take ads from formula companies you can expect flak from organisations which monitor them.

caligula · 25/08/2005 21:01

Agree. And yes it would be very sad - I'd be very sorry - but that's really not the issue here, to be brutally honest.

I think it's even sadder that these ruthless profiteers deliberately sabotage bf women, tbh.

misdee · 25/08/2005 21:03

o poned the helpline earlier with an expressing query. surprisingly they didnt tell me to use formula, but apparently i was speakign to a dietician not a midwife.

RTKangaMummy · 25/08/2005 21:07

OK if they were found out by outsiders

But if a member has reported them I think that is sad

If they get prosecuted or the site gets closed down or fined everyone suffers

I have probably got the wrong end of the stick again

And I am sorry if I am wrong yet again

oke doke

see I knew I would get the wrong end of the stick

WigWamBam · 25/08/2005 21:48

misdee - a dietician? How is a dietician qualified to advise mothers on breastfeeding?

WideWebWitch · 25/08/2005 22:26

Quite agree that the 'helpline' is still a disgrace and should be shut down.

Tinker · 25/08/2005 23:23

I wrote to the Indie and complained. The Indie won't get into trouble, neither will mn. The links posted about Milupa and the Indie already state that the ASA don't do anything about this.

milkymouth · 26/08/2005 07:22

Got a reply from the Indie saying that they don't endorse advertised producis and that unfortunately they need the revenue from ads.

I've stated my piece so am happy. Well,as happy as I can be.

Aragon · 26/08/2005 07:40

BFLG have been watching Milupa for some time - I am an ex-midwife and am well aware of the tactics the baby milk companies use. MN won't get into any trouble for taking the ad - after all they were not to know it's content. However, these companies are so blase about their actions that they need picking up everytime they violate the code.
Anyway - not saying anything which hasn't been said before and I think that's my lot.

daisy1999 · 26/08/2005 08:41

I can't help feeling after reading some of the other threads on this that people are overreacting. If it breaks the code then it will no doubt be dealt with but they aren't pushing heroin ffs.
