What's the best highchair?

We are looking at a Inglesinga which is on offer at £109 (John Lewis £160) but can't see many reviews on it.

A lot of people seem to like the Tripp Trapps but I think our 7mo ds would slip around a bit much and I wanted one which was a bit more padded.

Any recommendations?

I got a 14 quid jobby in Argos. It does the job, is easy to clean and lightweight to move around the house. MIL bought an expensive, bulky Chicco one for her house and it's a PITA.

after looking around at quite a few (!) we ended up choosing the kuster K1 highchair from www.funkymoose.co.uk www.funkymoose.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2115. we all love it, its got a huge tray (which can be removed if you don't want to use it), it folds up out of the way and it is also looks lovely in our kitchen. highly recommended.

Antilop is the only option up to about 2 years old (while they are messy). After that you can either go all ergonomic and blond wood with a Tripp Trapp or just a normal chair with a booster, basically. Remember it is a piece of furniture.

Don't whatever you do get a Mamas and Papas Prima pappa. Nothing has ever gone back on ebay so fast. Monstrosity in every way!

IKEA Antilop without a doubt. We had it from when DS 6 months, although DH decided, after a few weeks, that DS "looked uncomfortable in it" and that "That must be why he won't eat any food" so went out and bought a Chico something -or-other fro 3 times the price... Needless to say, the Chico ended up being relegated to the PIL's whilst the Antilop was still being used right up until a few months ago (DS no 2.5)

P&T high pod, Mutsy Easy grow highchair or (although these 3 have been discontinued so would have to look on ebay or similar) M&P cuisine, Babylo Mandy, East Coast Sit Up. The phil and ted's table top ones are good for taking places and if you haven't got much space.

the ikea one is fantastic!
Were give a mamas and papas one and hated it, mostly as the tray was too high for my dd, infact still is now and she is 14months!

brought the ikea one and it is so easy and simple!! i love it!!

trixymalixy · 06/08/2009 11:37

ikea antilop or tripp trapp. We were bought the tripp trapp as a present, but my parents have the antilop.

I would have preferred the antilop when we were weaning DS, but now he is 2 it's great that he can sit up at the table with us and his tripp trapp will last him ages

Sunshinemummy · 06/08/2009 11:55

Tripp Trapp. We have 2. DS is now 3 and he loves his and uses it all the time for all kinds of things (including getting up to worktop level for cooking activities). DD is 11m and she has been in hers since 5m. We stuffed fabric shapes down the sides of her at first as she tended to lean over to one side but she very quickly didn't need them.

Catilla · 06/08/2009 12:01

Ikea one is fantastic on all counts and definitely fine for sitting up in.

If you like the wooden look and something for an older child to sit higher on, the Tchibo wooden one is great and only about £30.

One thing no-one has mentioned about the Tripp Trapp is that over about 12 months, it feels like you're going to break their legs trying to bend them between the bar and the seat... it's great for support when they're in but I hate that moment when you're holding them in the air (especially as they get heavier) and can't get the legs to bend the right way!
