What are families honestly spending on their weekly food shop?

cost of weekly food shop - Our food shop cost is crippling me. Our weekly food shop is £300 for 2 adults , 14 year old and a cat. My husband thinks that’s normal and is just the cost of living when I know my friends are paying half that. His response is well they are not being honest and they are actually paying more.

I can’t continue paying £300 a week, it’s insane I know . I’ve tried talking to him that it’s too much and he’s blaming me stressing over it on “ time of the month” as usual.

My question is , honestly what are families spending on their food shop weekly.

2 adults and a 6 year old. Between £70 and £100. Never spend over 100, can't bring myself to, I'll put things back.

We spend about £150 a week for 2 adults and 3 children but we do have to top that up. If we buy booze on top our monthly spend is close to £1000

Genuinely struggling to see how you’re spending that, even trying unless you tell us you shop at Waitrose and are eating steak frequently?

2 adults 1 child. We (fortunately) have no need to be careful or budget, so get what I fancy.

We get Gousto meal delivery service for 3 dinners per week for easy healthy food where I don’t need to think on busy work days. Everything else I get from Aldi for breakfast/dinners/household products. We spend around £120 per week. Son has hit school dinner trek times, so that’s another £12ish per week? (Not sure how much dinner is, £2.34 or something random). So we are £130 - max £150 with a couple of bottles of wine thrown in for Aldi/school dinners/gousto.

Between £60-80pw depending on where we shop. That's 2 adults and a 6 month old. That price includes formula and sometimes nappies and wipes plus more recently babys snacks. Dog food costs about £50 per month for a labrador

Try buying cheaper items for some of your meals such as beans and rice.

£170-£190 a week for 4 adults. All meat eaters and 3 meals a day.

£300 is crazy. We spend anything from £140-£180 per week for between 4 to 6 of us depending who’s at home. 2 adults, 3 adult children and 1 always starving 15 year old boy. Plus £20 per week on school dinners for him. I meal prep all lunches for myself and then make extra for the 15yo after he’s been to the gym and I do plan all meals before I go shopping.

Close to £200 pw - 4 adults now though, and a cocker spaniel (who to be fair, costs very little). We eat a lot of meat, particularly DS - its all about the 'protein' 😆

We’re about same as you OP for 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog but we’re not careful at all, don’t even really meal plan, kids eat loads and we drink a lot of wine, being honest ❤️

200 a week for 2 adults and 2 toddlers.
This includes cleaning products ! I could spend more easily but have to draw the line at £200 a week.

About £150 every 10 days from Sainsburys and top up shops between those total approx £40-£70, depending on items needed for school events/ baking for clubs/ needing to grab something nutritious for my husband because his hours have been changed AGAIN and the staff canteen will be closed...

We eat mainly homemade meals, lots of fruit and veg, slightly less meat than we used to and fish at least once a week. We get through at least 22pts of milk every 10 days.

I tend to bulk buy nuts, seeds, vitamins and dried fruit about every 3 months. That's usually about £110, but I take advantage of multibuy offers for these. I do bake quite a lot and my 2 children (not yet teenagers) love nuts and seeds at home for snacks as they can't have them at school.

Around £200 per week for 4 adults, 3 of which are gym-going rugby players. That covers all meals, except my husband sometimes buys a few work lunches in addition. We could easily get our bill lower by cutting some treat foods out if necessary.

We spend similar but it includes everything people often forget to add in! Lunches, eating out, ad hoc snacks out and about and any takeaways. I try to cut it down but we eat a lot of fruit which is expensive and I buy good quality meat. We are limited to some expensive bits that my autistic daughter relies on like a specific squash and type of cheese. I just don’t understand how it can be MUCH lower. I could get it to £200 if I cut out treats and eating out at the weekend but HOW are people doing three meals a day for a family for £70? I’d love to see a plan as the maths isn’t mathing for me!

Around £150pw for 2 adults 2 children both under 3. We cook from scratch with plenty of veg. Always have fruit in for snacks, don't buy crisp/biscuits etc but we do get meat from the butchers which can be more expensive but better quality, so tend to have a couple of veggie meals a week to lower the cost

Two adults and a cat. Groceries are £120-150 per week, depending on whether I need to buy any large bulk things (large pack cat food, laundry detergent etc).

However - I don’t drink, and rarely have red meat or steak, and eat cheap plant based meals a few times a week.

Five of us, all adult, and cat and we spend about £150 to £200 pw. I am sure I could probably trim a bit off that if I changed supermarkets (normally Sainsbury’s) and was a bit more careful with my meal planning. We buy quite a lot of branded items too. If we needed to tighten our budget there is definitely room.

I buy good quality stuff and I’m a gym goer and eat a lot of lean protein, pulses, grains, Greek yogurt ( not Greek style), various nuts and seeds etc. Cook mainly from scratch. My husband like junk food so plenty of that too. I could easily spend more tbh. Some people eat a lot of UPF, convenience food, that’s probably cheaper.

We eat "veggie" or fish two-three times a week to cut costs. Cook entirely from scratch with loads of fruit and veg. Mid-range supermarket.

Goodness that is a lot! Does that include alcohol? We spend average £150 per week, 2 adults, 2 kids age 14 & 11. It includes 2 x bottles of wine and a box of beer. I cook from fresh most days and do lunches every day for the kids plus hubby and I are eating at home during the day. I'm intreagued to know what your spending it on?
