Ohh is that the one where you can barely get the stickers off and then it renders the first few inches useless?! Totally agree with you it's infuriating (& kind of misses the point as so wasteful!!) 😡

WinterPearl · 14/09/2025 08:26

Oh my goodness, I’ve almost started a thread about this so many times. SO infuriating!! I lose half of the roll trying to open it! I get that it’s more environmentally friendly than covering it in plastic, but there must be a better solution?!

Whateverwillwedonow · 14/09/2025 08:41

Yessss! I hear you!

I had a melt down over those bloody rolls.

SmallOrFarAway · 14/09/2025 08:46

Yes they’re utter shite! I know it says they’ve provided extra paper to account for it, but I usually end up gouging chunks out and wasting loads, plus it’s really expensive anyway. I think Asda or Morrisons ones seem to be easier and tbh I’ve given up and just get a job lot of gift bags off eBay or Amazon now.

CustardCream31 · 14/09/2025 09:23

Yes!!!! I only buy from there if I’m desperate now (and I do weekly shopping at Sainsburys) because I can’t stand trying to unpick the bloody thing!! 🤣 CardFactory or HomeBargains are my top choice for cheap but very cheerful wrapping paper!

FallingIntoAutumn · 14/09/2025 09:25

heating it up is the answer. Quick blast with a hair dryer

AgnesX · 14/09/2025 09:28

I got some really nice birthday paper from Amazon. Was surprised at just how good it was for the price. My sheets were folded so can't comment on the rolls though.

This drives me mad.

I’ve had it where I’ve spent ages removing the first 3 successfully and then the last one buggers it all up. There must be a better way that doesn’t waste a load of paper and doesn’t include plastic

my local card shop just has a 2inch piece of thick paper wrapped around it in the middle with a bit of tape. Easy to remove and doesn’t damage the paper!

hexsnidgett · 14/09/2025 09:36

Can't you just use scissors?

Bruisername · 14/09/2025 09:39

No they have glue keeping them on all around it

BakeOffRewatch · 14/09/2025 09:54

Bought some M&S wrap the other day and they have a pull strip down so it does the ripping cleanly for you. Not sure of the sustainability credentials.

Yes to this too - I am so annoyed that they’ve replaced a reusable, recyclable lid with unrecyclable, useless film. And don’t get me started on the mince packaging…

The lidless hummus is a nightmare - I’m not eating a whole pot in one go!

I would like to add to this that they have taken the trays away from their whole chickens so now an entire raw chicken just flops around in a bag ready to leak all over your fridge (I put it on a plate)

The mince packaging actually makes me feel a bit queasy!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 14/09/2025 10:04

Yes! Bought some in July for a friend’s gifts and that gave me the rage.
Talking of lids, why did Tesco and Sainsbury’s remove the tub lids to dips etc? Lidl and Aldi still have theirs. I’ve kept some lids back in case I buy the dips from Tesco/Sainsbos

Gertrudetheadelie · 14/09/2025 10:05

The trouble is that all that plastic really does make a difference when it's a supermarket chain as big as Sainsbury's. I remember reading about Tesco making their cheese plastic less floppy and how much that made a difference!

Our local council also doesn't recycle any plastic that isn't bottle shaped so, for us, that would be less plastic in our black bin which is a huge win when it is only emptied every fortnight. Would stretchy lids not go over the humous?

NoelFurlong · 14/09/2025 10:07

Omg, you’ve just given me a formerly repressed flashback to last Christmas and the absolutely infuriating wrapping paper. I think it was from John Lewis, but it was sealed like the OP’s with stickers that ripped the paper on removal. It was so annoying and wasteful.

CrushingOnRubies · 14/09/2025 10:08

It’s really frustrating and urgently need wrapping paper and have to get the Sainsbury’s stuff.

can I add, can Sainsbury’s go back to packing mince in a plastic box, the vacuum packed mince is awful.

MoodyTrudy · 14/09/2025 10:11

Why don’t you just scrape the leftover hummous into a re-usable container? It only takes a few seconds. We have a whole load of little pots with lids that are perfect for this kind of thing.

Bruisername · 14/09/2025 10:15

Whilst I was caught out by the lack of lid I agree with pp that there are solutions - reusable stretchy lids/ putting it in a little box

and the mince being presented in a more eco friendly way that people find disgusting? I think you just have to get over that tbh!

there is no solution to the sodding wrapping paper other than the manufacturer finding a different way

MumoftwoNC · 14/09/2025 10:18

Why doesn't the manufacturer just tie string around it?? String is biodegradable and can be snipped.

Why does everything have to be so complicated

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 14/09/2025 10:18

The problem with all the eco wrapping paper I have ever bought is that selloptape won’t bloody stick to it.
Presumably the makers think I should be able to contain the present with home woven brown string instead.

Rainydayinlondon · 14/09/2025 10:53

It annoys me about the mince because Sainsbury’s got rid of their meat counter where it would have been far easier to buy meat in larger quantities, wrapped in less plastic ( ie grease proof paper and a recyclable thin plastic bag which could be screwed down to nothing).
