A friend of ours is getting married. They are extreme Christians. No sex, no kisses before wedding. They have a house, but will move in together as a couple.

what to get them??

What about a family Bible op, assuming that they will probably be trying to start a family soon? The kind people keep for generations and then add important information to them? So it has spaces for births and marriages etc in the book itself. You can get lovely personalized ones

This is nice idea. Thank you

Hmm... I'd probably go with a really nice decorative household Bible or book of Psalms. But maybe post this in Christian Mumsnetters where you might get some good responses?

No, really don’t
they will still need to do normal things like cook and eat. Will they have plenty of space in their home?
if you know them well, good quality cookware/pans etc
if not, money or vouchers?

committed Christians will have enough bibles i promise

Kendodd · 17/03/2025 21:45

Actually I think this is probably easier than if they weren't Christians. If they're just moving in together now, they'll need loads of boring house stuff, just get them some sheets or a kettle or something.

They will not want or need anymore bibles. I also think regular household stuff is the best shout but if you did want something specifically Christian some Christian themed art could be good.

I googled:

There are wedding specific prints or thinks about have a welcoming home that might resonate with you.

An inflatable pope.

OP if they haven’t lived together before something for the home is probably most welcome. John Lewis vouchers? I’m a Christian who works in a Christian organisation with a lot of very committed Christian many of whom didn’t live together before marriage (not me though!) they’re all normal people who like normal things in their home.

and yes we all already have many Bibles, usually small ones that fit in bags or just use an app these days 😊

A copy of "The Joy of Sex" by Alex Comfort? 😉

But really, just get them something useful! I too had a set of kitchen knives that are still in use... also a grater and colander which are still in regular use. All the little odds and ends you need as a new household really add up when you are starting out - towels, clothes pegs, brooms, mops, a tray...
I think a few of these mundane things as a gift are far more practical than an expensive gadget such as a soup maker which will be tried out once and then clutter up the cupboard for 10 years!

I would've loved a really nice nativity scene, one that can come out year after year.
