Is 'Home' or 'Welcome' on doormat cringey?

I need a new doormat and a couple with words on have taken my fancy. My dilemma, if a doormat says HOME or Welcome, nice or a bit tacky? Can't decide.

Very tacky and naff. Outdoor doormats made of coir etc should be totally plain. The only doormat that should have pattern on it is an ironwork one. They're actually really good because mud, dirt and rain drop through rather than clagging up in the coir fibres.

Waterboatlass · 16/10/2024 16:51

I would say quite close to neutral in terms of taste. 'home' a bit naffer than 'welcome' which is pretty trad. I think those that try to be funny and claim to hate people are cringier, as are 'live laugh, love' type sentiments.

It's just a doormat. I'm saying not twee.

ThianWinter · 16/10/2024 17:14

Why are you bothered about what other people think of your doormat? If you like it, buy it. I genuinely DGAF what other people think of my choices in home decor. I love everything about my home.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 16/10/2024 17:18

Boring rather than cringy. It’s like something one of my elderly relatives would have.
I like the joke ones myself, if you Google them there are some quite funny ones.

A 'weclome' mat is much, much better - Still Game fans can buy those on eBay!

Haha, we've got one of those! 😂

Davros · 16/10/2024 18:16

I don't mind your Halloween one because it's fun. I think anything sincere, other than "welcome" is cringe

ihaveliterallynoidea · 16/10/2024 18:22

Up there with motivational plaques

BebbanburgIsMine · 16/10/2024 19:28

@TheHangingGardensOfBasildon

We have the WECLOME doormat.

Still Game is the best!

I quite like a welcome mat personally, but you should factor in the possibility of passing vampires taking it as an implied invitation to come in and feast on your puny human blood. If you're okay with that though, I'd crack on

Garlic around the door?🤔

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/10/2024 19:49

I love this! I'm buying my Dad one for Christmas (thanks @username3678) He will delighted. His partner and her family not so much. 😜😂

My own doormat says "I am not a doormat"

LegArmpits · 16/10/2024 19:49

Ours says Go Away

Mum5net · 16/10/2024 19:52

Departure Arrivals
Family saw one of these and we all burst into smiles

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 16/10/2024 20:55

My DGM used to have one that said "All of our visitors bring us joy: some when they arrive and some when they leave" Grin

I like that!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 16/10/2024 21:40

I'm not keen on anything with words on it. But I have a turquoise doormat with bees on so I don't set a good example for porch decor.

abracadabra1980 · 16/10/2024 21:47

Bit overdone by about 20 years really 🤔

abracadabra1980 · 16/10/2024 21:56

I need this-fantastic!

Pinkissmart · 16/10/2024 21:59

Oh my word- if you like it, get it

Noseylittlemoo · 16/10/2024 22:39

We had a door mat that said home sweet home on it.
And some letters on the wall saying Love.
And our initial letters on a shelf in the lounge room. I'm sure that lots MN would judge me.
But I don't care cos it's our house and we choose things that we like .

TashaTudor · 16/10/2024 22:41

Wait what? Welcome on a doormat is cringy? Since when? My doormats have all said welcome. Off to cry in a corner

I think you are confused. You appear to think your personal taste applies to others. Everyone's taste is equally valid. To label it tacky and naff says much more about you than it does about the person with the doormat that brings them joy.

If you happen to be in possession of a rulebook on doormats I will stand corrected.

If it’s good enough for royalty……
