Is 'Home' or 'Welcome' on doormat cringey?

I need a new doormat and a couple with words on have taken my fancy. My dilemma, if a doormat says HOME or Welcome, nice or a bit tacky? Can't decide.

A bit tacky IMO, but if you like it, get it. Don’t pay any attention to what others think.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/10/2024 15:14

I bought my daughter, who is fairly reclusive, a doormat with 'Now Go Home' on it. She loves it. I don't think they are cringey, not as much as having Peace or Love or whatever on the wall. You're only wiping your feet on it, after all.

Stichintime · 16/10/2024 15:14

Tacky.

Words · 16/10/2024 15:15

Yes

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 16/10/2024 15:17

A 'weclome' mat is much, much better - Still Game fans can buy those on eBay!

CookieMonster28 · 16/10/2024 15:17

Very twee!
It's a bit 'live, laugh,love' sorry!

piscofrisco · 16/10/2024 15:18

@Vroomfondleswaistcoat I bought my bf who is similarly reclusive a doormat that says 'hell is other people' on it. She loved it but her Mum told her off so she is only allowed it at the back door now Grin

I've got alohamora on mine.... I have little to no shame though!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 16/10/2024 15:21

I want one that says:

Stop and think. Do you REALLY need to knock?

I get chuggers. This might deter them.

LightBulbMome · 16/10/2024 15:21

Fair enough, I'm generally not keen on stuff with words on but found one in a colour I liked. Will keep looking. Any recommendations for not too expensive colourful doormat shops?

Yes, I'm cringing at the thought. It's for wiping your shoes on, not expressing your thoughts.

TreesWelliesKnees · 16/10/2024 15:24

Oliver Bonas have some good patterned doormats in slightly larger sizes than normal. I'm planning to get one but currently have a Welcome doormat!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/10/2024 15:26

Basic rather than cringey, wouldn't stop me buying it if I liked it. Plain is probably best though.

TakeMe2Insanity · 16/10/2024 15:29

We have a welcome one as needed one that was larger and our one was thread bare. This serves the purpose.

SabreIsMyFave · 16/10/2024 15:29

Why do you care what people think @LightBulbMome ???

I put what I want in my garden, and near my house/in my house. IDGAF what people think about it. It's no-one's business.

Babyshambles90 · 16/10/2024 15:32

I always think, who gets to say what’s cringy and what isn’t? If live, laugh, love or a doormat with welcome on brings people a bit of joy, why can’t they just have that?! OP, if you like the doormat, you go for it. I used to be really driven by what other people would think, to the extent that I wasn’t even sure I had a sense of my own taste and what made me personally happy. So now I stop and connect with what I like and what I want, then go with that and sod everyone else and their highly developed sense of sophistication!!

Plump82 · 16/10/2024 15:36

I cant say I've ever thought a door mat could be classed as cringey. Honest to goodness! Get it if you like it!!

Canalboat · 16/10/2024 15:39

Cringing at doormats is peak MN

GreenBlinker · 16/10/2024 15:52

Get one saying "No Riff Raff" 🤣🤣👌🏻

Davros · 16/10/2024 15:55

I think "Welcome" is fine as it's quite traditional. Not sure I'd entertain any other message

saveforthat · 16/10/2024 15:57

Welcome has been written on mats for decades (way before live laugh, love and in my opinion not cringey but traditional.

LightBulbMome · 16/10/2024 16:39

NB I do generally just buy stuff I like without worrying too much about other people's opinions, however we are selling our house and so do care about the impression given to potential purchasers. Thanks all.
