OMG I got a cuthbert!

TLDR: Thank you so much to the very kind woman who gave me the last toy cuthbert the caterpillar cake in Aldi this morning!

So I got to Aldi at 8.20am after nursery drop off and they were queuing down the aisle to get to the wooden toys! It was all very British and civilised, everyone waiting patiently and no CF trying to push in!

I was resigned at this point to another year of disappointment, but I finally made it to near the front, two women in front of me - the one said to the other only two toy cuthbert cakes left and handed one to the other woman. I asked her, are you sure there's no more?, as they were mixed with other options. But she'd gone right to the bottom of the pile to find them. The second woman turned round and said it's ok you can have this one, I'll get one of the other ones.

This kindness has completely made my day and I can't wait to give it to DS for Xmas! There are truly some very generous people in the world. Thank you again so much, kind fellow mum! 😊

I reported them all (it’s really enraged me haha) and Vinted said it was fine, so I messaged and said “as this was apparently an “unwanted gift” would you accept the RRP which is a third of what you’re asking?” I got blocked many times I think 😂

I'm not surprised they don't care, they just want their percentage of the sale eh. Love you calling them out!

I’ve done the same. Some selling for 300% price increase!!

It pisses me off because they’re kids toys. There’s a cost of living crisis, and they’re decent toys for a decent price, which is a big ask these days, and these absolute reprobates are taking advantage of people who just want to buy their kids a few relatively inexpensive Christmas presents, especially for those who are on a tight budget.

That is amazing

Do you remember the year of Mog the cat Christmas toys from Sainsbury? DS went to hospital for invasive tests on the day the advert came out and was released late at night. We stopped at the supermarket for Calpol and milk and they were putting out the cats. It was near closing and ds fell in love so I bought one. It was less than £10.

The next day, people were grabbing them from shelves and selling them on eBay for £300. We still have and love our Mog. It was bloody ridiculous.

It's really cute, but the frenzy is bizzare! Have they advertised them on TV is that why the kids know about them?

Also - PSA - House of Fraser/Sports Direct (random, I know) do an amazing range of wooden toys for a very decent price

In case anyone on the thread is looking for anything they missed out on in Aldi, I've just found out that Lidl have their wooden toys in stores next week, 17th Oct. And if you have their app you can get 10% off.
Looking at the online leaflet it seems like there will be lots of similar stuff to Aldi, but unfortunately no caterpillar cakes.

Popped in today on the off chance our local one had somehow been missed from the madness and there's so little left. A quick look on eBay shows listing after listing of the Cuthbert cake for £30+, doesn't feel fair that it's allowed to happen and I won't be buying one for DD at that price!
