Ergo baby carrier: any reason why it seems to be out of stock on lots of websites? And not re-stocking..

I have been reading mn and the Ergo sounds good. I am a bit concerned tho that sites previously mentioned as selling them don't sell them anymore. Example; bigmamaslings

Does any one know why?

Berolina - the Manduca looks excellent Love the extendable backrest, esp for my v tall kids.

Now considering selling my evil Ergo to fund the purchase of a nicer one... My only concern - does the Manduca have a generous waistband? I'm 176cm and UK size 16 and not skinny. The Ergo fits OK on me, but the waistband is a bit tight on DH who is much taller than me and very broad.

waist belt not waistband

golly the manduca looks very robust and comfy - dh would love it. WHY did I not know about these before and carried ds round in a fairly uncomfortable Baby bjorn??

The angelpack has arrived. It looks lovely but they forgot to send me the chest strap so I can't use it yet. Boo!

Seems easy to use though and even without the chest strap ds was very light to carry.

Chest strap arrived. But no instructions... so looked on the web.

I carried ds (who is 20lb / 9kilos) for two and a half hours round Ikea. It was fine. I felt a bit sick, but I think that's of coz my lunch!

The material is lovely too. I would recommend

sounds good!

the manduca looks good. I wonder if it will arrive in Belgium soon? I'm looking at buying a new sling

kiskideesameanoldmother · 24/02/2008 12:01

you can order them from the site that bero linked to. i have done so in the past and it came in 4 days to the UK.

belgo · 24/02/2008 12:12

thanks kiskidee

oh and dh used the angelpack yesterday and was happy with it. It was great as ds was ill, and we were still able to go out as he was happy when being carried. I even got a "well done" from dh on my purchase, which doesn't often happen!

I think it's more of a city carrier.... I might see if I can get a second hand patamum / beco for all day hiking.

Amazonianwoman - are you still looking to sell your evil Ergo? I'm looking to buy one! Thanks.

amazonianwoman · 31/03/2008 14:13

Hi Miffin - no sorry, haven't had time to look for a replacement!

I too have heard the problems about the past of ERGObaby but have personally met the Frost family who run the company at a trade show and must say that they were such wonderful people! They are so dedicated to the importance of carrying babies and only want to design the best product possible for parents- the product was originally designed by their daughter for her first child. They didn't say too much about it but I got the impression that previous problems had come from the leadership in the German office but that this was no longer an issue (i.e. the person isn't there anymore!)

I have used the ergo for both my children and wouldn't recommend any other carrier, no other model is as comfortable when baby gets a bit heavier and the company are only too willing to help if you ever have a question or experience a problem. Hopefully we will only be hearing the good reviews that ergo deserve in the future

Very interesting conversation...
I have a Ergo which I found brilliant till...
But I didn't know about all that rubbish. The company is fucked up !! What a shame, these cost so much...
Anyway... I don't like the way my son gets red and very mark at the legs, behind the knees where they rest on the belt of the carrier.
I was going to buy the same to my cousin 'cause she needs something like that, but I think I will go for the Manduca which looks like the best to me...
:-)
