Is it worth buying a 2013 fiat 500 with 60,000 miles?

Hi all,
I’m looking for a new car as my last one was written off in an accident- someone crashed into it when it was parked. I have a fairly low budget of £4,000 ish. My friend has offered to sell her fiat 500 that was designed in 2013 and has around 60,000 miles on it for £2000. I know it’s a good deal, however I’m worried about the age and mileage, and fiats don’t have the best reputation. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

@FartingInTheFence guessing you've had some Fords, then?
I'm asking for advice because I want advice on the reliability of cars within my budget, not to have a rude reply for asking 🤷‍♀️ If I knew, I wouldn't be on here asking about cars...

What do you want in a car?

What size?
How fast?
How many seats?
What do you use it for?

4K is a good amount. You could get something amazing.

Then the answer is most definitely Japanese with the exception of Nissan. Honda or Toyota really, you can try and persuade yourself that whatever VAG/Ford/Fiat shed is going to be just as good but they’re really not.

You might want to check my earlier posts on this thread.

You'll see I highlighted more than once which car has the highest reliability for your budget/size/needs.

Not sure how else I can explain that?? Also, I wasnt being rude - just factual.

If dependability is what you want JD Power conducts a survey. Results for Skoda and Honda listed below. Full results can be seen by searching for JD Power dependability survey (choose year)

Sorry, that should have been @silversable

I had an old Peugeot which never caused me any problems...and now I have a quite new Toyota which needs something fixed every bloody year. I really feel it is just luck of the draw with what needs to be fixed most of the time.

Elai1978 · 30/06/2020 07:41

@veni I put more faith in the Warranty Direct reliability index. This takes into account not only the frequency of problems but also the costs involved and is taken from actual warranty claim data across hundreds of thousands of cars not surveying owners.

Out of 40 manufacturers Honda and Toyota rate 2nd and 4th. Skoda comes in 12th, Fiat 16, VW 25th, Seat 26th.

FartingInTheFence · 30/06/2020 09:51

@VeniVidiWeeWee

Any stats can be skewed and your list makes no reference to which models this covers - and as for JD Power - they are the most biased load of crap out there. I wouldnt wipe a chimps arse with what they print.

As @Elai1978 points out, Honda and Toyota are leagues above shitty VW-spawned cars and will always be up top.

Have you thought of a Kia ? , I've got a small one and it's great , I've had a fair selection of all the usual brands over the years and tbh this
car is one of the best , for £4K you would get a 4 or 5 year old one with reasonable mileage

FartingInTheFence · 01/07/2020 14:22

Compare where Skoda is to where Honda is.

Nuff said....
