Is it worth buying a 2013 fiat 500 with 60,000 miles?

Hi all,
I’m looking for a new car as my last one was written off in an accident- someone crashed into it when it was parked. I have a fairly low budget of £4,000 ish. My friend has offered to sell her fiat 500 that was designed in 2013 and has around 60,000 miles on it for £2000. I know it’s a good deal, however I’m worried about the age and mileage, and fiats don’t have the best reputation. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

@silversable

I'm not too fussed about getting a top of the range, fancy car (I don't have the budget for it rn anyway). I'm looking for a fairly cheap, but reliable model. I will look at the cars suggested above; I know people who love their 500s and say they have an unfair reputation. I think it's just a combination of it being 8 years old, higher mileage than I'm wanting really and I want one I keep a bit longer than 2/3 years
If you are looking for something reliable, then you arent gonna find it in a cheap ass Fiat which will NOT be cheap to repair or maintain.

Given you budget, Honda Civic all the way.

Not a single reason to pic your friends unreliable turd over this.

If you do...then you're extremely naive!

I used to have an aygo and currently have a fiat 500. Loved both of them-never had any probs with either.

HappyDinosaur · 27/06/2020 17:39

Definitely not girly, mine is black and red, does that make a difference? Personally I see tailgaters as worse than the tailgated!

DonaldJTrumpet · 27/06/2020 17:46

Definitely a difference over a pink or blue.

Yes tailgaters are worse than the tailgatees but I find small cars get tailgated more.

HappyDinosaur · 27/06/2020 18:08

Yes, that's probably fair Wink

coronabeer23 · 27/06/2020 18:40

I had a Fiat 509, I loved it, no problems with it at all, it drove brilliantly and was much more roomy than expected.

Mrskeats · 27/06/2020 21:00

Mine is useless.
Something wrong with it every five minutes.
Would never get another one.

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 28/06/2020 09:45

Ohh love the light blue ones had one myself. No issues

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 28/06/2020 09:47

@coronabeer23 wow a 509! Never seen one of those

Seat Ibiza any day of the week, we’ve had 3, they are super reliable, they are VW’s in all but name and price and they go one for ever. Our first one did well over 120000 miles before it died. Fantastic cars. Can’t rave about them enough. Far better than a Fiat 500.

DonaldJTrumpet · 28/06/2020 10:02

How much over 120 @Wrongdissection? I'm not sure 120 is an advert for reliability?

My vectra had 196k when i decided it should go. It could have lasted longer but was starting to cost money here and there.

DonaldJTrumpet · 28/06/2020 10:03

Saying that the megane convertible I had after the vectra made it to a massive 50k before the steering went. Fucking renaults.

Wrongdissection · 28/06/2020 10:15

Hmm now you’re asking, I said 120 as that was the last one I recalled and therefore I knew it was definitely over that. It was probably closer to 150 which I don’t think is bad for a small car that was about 15 years old (we got rid in 2012 so a while back for that one, the others we’ve traded in a lot sooner) I’d stand by my Seat recommendation though, we’ve never had any major problems with any of ours.

DonaldJTrumpet · 28/06/2020 11:01

Definitely agree with the seat recommendation. Great little cars.

Yeah 150 isn't bad for any car 😀

Elai1978 · 28/06/2020 17:38

Definitely agree with the seat recommendation. Great little cars.

A Honda will be even better.

Isrhisavalidusername · 28/06/2020 17:40

I've got a 500 and it's economical, easy to park and hasn't caused me many issues in the 4 years I've had it. Apart from the usual wear and tear.

FartingInTheFence · 28/06/2020 21:06

@Elai1978

Definitely agree with the seat recommendation. Great little cars.

A Honda will be even better.

Exactly.

Sad how underrated they are and yet are the most bombproof machines ever crafted by human hands.

Far better than the Fix-It-Again-Tomorrow-Turd-500.

DonaldJTrumpet · 28/06/2020 23:21

They are bombproof but I think their range leaves a lot to be desired now the accord has gone.

There's the grandma jazz, marmite civic and some suvs. I know estates are a declining market but I think they'd be better off with something like a prelude or accord again...

FartingInTheFence · 29/06/2020 03:19

Agreed, Honda's range is limited, and it stands to reason given folks still buy German and French built tat all in the pursuit of style over substance.

The smart amongst us know better.

silversable · 29/06/2020 08:31

I've aeen a good deal for a ford fiesta (2015) with a fairly low mileage. Thinking this or a SEAT Ibiza..from what I've heard Ford cars are generally reliable?

I had a 2015 fiesta in black. Nippy and reliable. However, the inside was so cheap and plastic that I didn't feel safe. It had all the technology.
I kept it three months.

DonaldJTrumpet · 29/06/2020 15:30

What age is the seat?

DonaldJTrumpet · 29/06/2020 15:31

Ford is "fix or repair daily!" But the only issue I ever had was a focus with a peugeot engine.

I dont get why you have asked for advice if you continue to parrot shit cars?🤷‍♂️

Ford - Fix Or Repair Daily. Fiesta's are fucking cheap nasty shit bowls too. Low mileage means nothing if the car in question is shite, and a Fiesta IS shite.

Your money though I guess 🤦‍♂️
