On blue lights driving a high powered response car at 3am on a deserted motorway with miles of visibility

BeatyBeast · 03/02/2018 22:28

105mph on a motorway. 5 points and €160 24 years ago. I have been very respectful of speed limits ever since, no matter what pressures.

SheSparkles · 03/02/2018 22:32

150mph in the back of a police car on a motorway. Best work related course I’ve ever done 😁

TheChippendenSpook · 03/02/2018 22:45

On straight roads it isn't so bad. It's when your traveling down country roads at high speeds that you sometimes have heart palpitations. Especially when you're not in control of the vehicle.

TheChippendenSpook · 03/02/2018 22:48

You're*

RedCarsGoFaster · 03/02/2018 22:49

150mph+ in a marked police car, on duty, in a pursuit. Awesome. Those were the days!

No longer a police officer, but my red car may have been known to go quickly 120.

QuitMoaning · 03/02/2018 22:51

160 as a passenger and I was oblivious but I was 13 at the time.

As a driver, about 120 in Germany.

Autumnchill · 03/02/2018 22:52

156mph in an S2000 on the autobahn going to the Nurburgring

TroysMammy · 03/02/2018 22:54

70mph on a motorway. I've got a 800cc matiz and it was scary.

The other day I was pootling around town and going up a slight incline and my 7 year old niece says "come on little car, you can do it". Grin

Eve · 03/02/2018 22:55

150 in an xf on the jaguar test track - was awesome - 70 on the m40 drive home afterwards felt very tame.

RedWineAllMine · 03/02/2018 22:56

Can't go above 70 on some main motorways now, due to smart cameras they have just installed, they are switched on 24/7 and if you go above 70 you will get a fine. I think motorways should be 80mph. But who am I to say Confused

clary · 03/02/2018 22:58

I once was driving my very quiet fast company car (back in the day when I had one!) on a deserted motorway in Lincs and accidentally did 95mph - I mean I gradually speeded up and then realised whoops! As soon as I realised I slowed down.

I was hitching in Germany once and we got a lift in an Alfa Romeo. The driver was doing 200kph (about 125mph). I was glad to get out of that lift.

LizardMonitor · 03/02/2018 22:59

I have occasionally gone just over 100mph on the motorway, speed creeping up without noticing.
Would never do it deliberately.
And I specifically watch out for it now so that it doesn't happen.

turophile · 03/02/2018 23:01

In my current car (1 litre Toyota Aygo) 102mph... the manual says the top speed is 98mph Grin

TittyGolightly · 03/02/2018 23:03

160ish on the track.

PinkDaffodil2 · 03/02/2018 23:06

112mph Years ago DH got done but only done for 92kph thankfully. Never been near that since and he realises he was bloody lucky that night!
He was in a line on the motorway all doing a similar speed but the police pulled over us in the bright orange car unsurprisingly. Not been close since.

BonnieF · 03/02/2018 23:07

200 km/h on the Autobahn in my own car, a BMW M135i. It is a very quick car and was still accelerating strongly & smoothly when I ran out of bottle.

mineofuselessinformation · 03/02/2018 23:07

I haven't found out the max speed in my current car, but did realise I was significantly above the speed limit not long after I bought it - I'm a bit more careful now!
The fastest I have ever been was in a car designed to be very sporty, driven by someone else at 140mph down country lanes. The driver was very experienced, and I love an adrenaline rush, but I did eventually suggest we tried the brakes...

coffeeforone · 03/02/2018 23:10

Is that really true? Do you know which motorways? We regularly travel 350 miles return on M25/M1 and M6, usually during quieter hours so at 75-80mph. It would be good to know where these points are

mummmy2017 · 03/02/2018 23:19

121 mph...

Brand new car up M5, on the way up to Bristol going up hill, and as I got to top of hill I realised how fast I was going, and slowed down.

It was 5am on a light sunny morning one summer.

RedWineAllMine · 03/02/2018 23:25

Here is a list. But they will be on all 'smart' motorways that they are currently building too.
Can find more info on the link in the photo. They are out to get us drivers, so watch out.

RedWineAllMine · 03/02/2018 23:27

Coffeeforone it's on all the ones you said 😩

Your Speedo can read up to 10% more than your actual speed. You may think you’re doing 70mph but you could actually be doing 63mph. Most speedos read high.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/02/2018 23:34

110mph in a small Citroen Saxo VTS trying to be smart when another car was tailgating me, when it suddenly dawn how dangerous it was. I was young and stupid., but thankfully no one got hurt. I loathe speeding now I’m older and wiser (maybe not so much wiser, definitely older!)

RedWineAllMine · 03/02/2018 23:39

Yes but in order to prove that that they have to put your car through testing to see if the speedometer is at fault. If you go over 70 it's a automatic fine. I don't know if you could appeal for your Speedo.
