I want to get one for baby due in August (baby show next month). Will the fleece be roasting then?

I have one and am a little concerned about this, the kimmer is supposed to be lighter and was thinking of getting one for the summer.
Soupy will give you a better answer.

I did exchange my coorie for a different colour and emailed them and got a very quick reply so you could try a quick email.

PrettyCandles · 28/03/2007 14:05

I used the lightweight fleece one on a trip to Israel and it was not too hot for the child.

ceolas · 28/03/2007 14:08

the microfleece, PC?

Nbg · 28/03/2007 14:10

I just got the normal fleece one and it was too hot for both my ds and me.
He was born 23rd August

ceolas · 28/03/2007 14:37

I don't want a ring sling but wondering if maybe the peerie might be better.

PrettyCandles · 28/03/2007 14:42

Yes, I tkinh that's what it is. It's black, so gets hot in direct sunlight, but then youl'd probably try tokeep direct sunlight off the LO in any case.

MrsBadger · 28/03/2007 14:45

took the words out of my mouth ceolas - have been meaning to ask this for a while!

couldn't quite decide between a Kimmer and a Peerie either... any strong opinions?

ceolas · 28/03/2007 16:09

I have tried ring slings in the past (Kimmer is a ring sling, right?) and found them uncomfortable. Lots of people like them though. Even if you ended up with two of theirs, it'd still be cheaper than a Baby Bjorn, which I found dreadfully uncomfortable.

MrsBadger · 28/03/2007 16:11

nah, it's the Cuddy that's a ring sling (damn nomenclature)

Kimmer is apparently just like a Coorie only cotton and with a padded edge.
Peerie is the same sans padding but allegedly not as comfy to wear though I cannot quite see why this should be.

ceolas · 28/03/2007 16:13

I have just seen that. They do like to confuse us poor pregnant brains

Soupy will know.

peachygirl · 28/03/2007 17:57

I got the impression from the site that the peerie is made from ligher fabric so may not be so robust or comfy on a long day out

SoupDreggon · 28/03/2007 19:05

Kimmer is stretchy, a Peerie isn't. I have both! I don't think a Peerie would be as secure for a baby, I've only used my Peerie with BabyDragon and she's 1 so sits in it like a hip seat.

I do think fleece would be way too hot - it keeps me toasty warm in winter whilst I'm using it. I used the Kimmer in Antigua last summer and even that was a tad on the warmside - fine for theUK though

MrsBadger · 28/03/2007 19:51

aha, the expert emerges!

will purchase a Kimmer asap - now to find one in a manly colour for DH...

jdd0709 · 28/03/2007 20:02

someone has told me about these slings, I'd never heard of them before - could someone send me a link and explain what the difference is between them all?

For ds1 we had a hug a bug (or was it bub? - the jeresey one with the pocket) which I found great but I found it a bit of a palaver to put on / tie when sleep deprived etc so it fell out of favour a bit and we mostly used the baby bjorn. Someone said one of these was a nice sling rather than carrier but easier to just shove on and go - was thinking of getting one for new baby, due beginning of September (i.e probably a month of good weather or so then chillier)

Which one do I need - baer in mind pregnancy brain for any explanations ...

ceolas · 28/03/2007 20:06

brightsparks slings . Their website is quite good

peachygirl · 28/03/2007 21:15

Woo hoo I've just ordered a Kimmer, a pink flowery one.
I've never looked at the FAQs on the sit before and they actually answer several queries I had. Several people have said tomet that DD looks very squashed in the coorie and I have said she is supposed to be like that.. and she is. She is also very deeply ensconced in it and I now know how to change this.

La la la (peachy wanders off rambling about coories)

MrsBadger · 28/03/2007 21:25

DH unimpressed by the Kimmer prints
May have to defect to Hotslings (such cool colours)

paulaplumpbottom · 28/03/2007 21:25

Get two one for summer and another for winter.

MrsBadger · 28/03/2007 21:27

may already have to get one for me and one for DH, I think four will be pushing it...

accessorizewithbabysick · 28/03/2007 21:59

Have just been trying to buy a hotslings, but apparently I am too large to buy one in the uk ! Mostly 2-5's available on all of the websites I've tried. I wanted a pretty one, but all I could get in a 7 (aarrgh) is boring blue. So I guess it'll be a kimmer now!

paulaplumpbottom · 28/03/2007 22:00

Have you tried one of the US sites? They usually carry larger sizes

accessorizewithbabysick · 28/03/2007 22:16

I did think of going direct to hotslings, but really can't be bothered waiting so long and getting an exchange would be a pain. But just been to brightsparks and they only do kimmers in purple, have I got this right?

ceolas · 28/03/2007 22:38

accessorize I've got it! Brightsparks will make you a sling if you want a particular fabric. Have a look on the site and email them
