I want to get one for baby due in August (baby show next month). Will the fleece be roasting then?

thanks for the links - that's what I need - a non adjustable sling that I can just sling on! thanks

SoupDreggon · 29/03/2007 11:58

Is it too late to post my Brightsparks referral number??

ceolas · 29/03/2007 13:10

Go for it Soupy. Think they might get a few purchases

soupy, i've been thinking of getting a hipseat thing to keep in the buggy for when dd doesn't want to walk or go in buggy (museums, etc). do you think i should get one of these coories instead?

SoupDreggon · 29/03/2007 15:50

The Peerie woud probably be ideal for that as it folds up really small, Aitch. That's what I got mine for as it'll fit in a handbag for "emergencies".

Having said that, I also have a hippy chick which I intend to use when BabyDragon is walking more as it's more hop-on-hop-off than the slings and may be better for longer trips when she's heavier. I borrowed one for DS2 and have forgotten exactly what it's like though!

SoupDreggon · 29/03/2007 15:51

Actually, a hippy chick wouldn't store in a buggy well, it's a bit bulky for that really. Like a large bumbag stuffed with a solid polystyrene wedge.

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 22:49

see, the reason i thought of the hippychick was because the tricotti sling i had (which was PERFECT when she was born in the winter) was keech by the time of her second winter. she just will not settle in it and tries to launch herself out of it. and you know, according to all the bumph it should last for years.
so is the peerie quite easy to get out of, do you think? or will it feel like being held?(which is what i'd like)

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 22:52

ooooh, look, there's a black one with blue cornflowers. [tempted]

ceolas · 29/03/2007 22:58

Aitch, can you explain the tricotti a wee bit, please? I can't see many pictures of it online.

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 23:05

it's basically two pieces of strong jersey fabric, each sewn together to make a loop and folded to make a wee pocket. you put one on over your shoulder and round your body and pop the baby in, then the other over your other shoulder and it goes around the baby to keep it snug. you can use it for the baby to lie down in, and sit forward and back. i loved it but dd was born in december... we used it all the time for the first few months but then it got too hot for me to wear. (it kind of is 4 layers of jersey, in the end). but oh how i adored taking out my secret baby when she was wee... it was like all the best bits of being pregnant. plus, she was pathologically incapable of staying awake in it so it was great for sleeps and she was so well protected that you could get on with business without worrying that you'd spill tea or splatter dinner on her.

ceolas · 29/03/2007 23:17

It looks good. I kind of like the idea of supporting a good Scottish business in Brightsparks though!

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 23:22

me too

i think the brightspark ones look great. but i did like the double layer of the tricotti.

ceolas · 29/03/2007 23:23

I'm just worried about frying in the fleece come August!

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 30/03/2007 00:18

i think you'd have the same problem with the tricotti, tbh. i was out of it by may. what about the peerie, isn't that lighter?

ceolas · 30/03/2007 00:20

Yeah, I think I'll probably end up with 2 if I go for a pouch whatever brand.

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 12:07

The Peerie is thin cotton really (I have the Boston Blue). It is kind of like being heled as the fabric goes up round their back and I have one arm round her back to snuggle BabyDragon in (although it is hands free, I prefer to hug her in most of the time).

If there's something she wants to see or get to, she does arch her back and try to fall out of it head first in a backwards somersault. She' snot actually got out of it though. I@m not sure it would withstand a ddetermined effort to get out unless you've got one arm round her back, which you'd need with the Hippy Chick anyway. I think it'd harder to get out of than a hippychick since it can be hands free whereas the hippyC can't.

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 12:08

I loved it when BabyDragon was a newborn and all snuggled up in the pouch.

peachygirl · 30/03/2007 16:23

I entered a competition to win a hippy chick last night .. I'll post a link
I don't think they are for me but if I won one

Soupy, am I right in thinking you live in the same town as me??

CristinaTheAstonishing · 30/03/2007 16:39

I tried a Peerie but found the fabric too rigid, so used a fleecy Coorie instead. During the summer I used mainly a ring sling I'd made from crinkly cotton and a mesh one (I think it was called Dookie?).

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 17:36

No idea, Peachy, although I didn't think so. I'm in Croydon.

The mesh one is a Dooker Never got on with mine (did I buy it from you, Cristina??). I agree that the Peerie would be better with a little stretch in it but I've used it on the school run this week (fleece one vanished in the house somewhere!) and it's actually been fine. I think as a part-time sling that folds away to nothing it's fabulous though.

MarsLady · 30/03/2007 17:37

Soupy.... your name has been bugging me each time I see it..... then suddenly.... the penny dropped! lol

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 18:19
AitchTwoOh · 30/03/2007 19:23

i only twigged it yesterday, mars...

AitchTwoOh · 30/03/2007 19:25

i was thinking 'oh poor soupy, she must be really down on herself at the mo, why is she calling herself after the dregs of something?'

peachygirl · 01/04/2007 16:06

Soupy I am also in Croydon. If I spot you and babydragon I'll be the mad woman running towards you in the whitgift centre shouting 'coorie coorie coorie.'
I haven't taken baby peach into town in the sling yet just the buggy

I mught try for a meet up as there were a few Croydon ladies on the Mayday hosptal thread (who were quite interested) who must have given birth by now.
