Are we thinking Venture caused the split??? (Like the scientologists caused the tornado?)

bundle · 14/12/2006 19:21

like the curse of Hello!

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 14/12/2006 19:22

Chortle! No, but it was a bit unfortunate. She still has the picture up, with ex-dp in, because she paid so much for it!

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 19:24

They put 3 of your pics together on the screen when you go for your viewing, ask if you like the look of those 3 pics together & then announce that a collection of 3 pics in 1 long frame will knock you back £795!!!

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 14/12/2006 19:27

For a picture that would cost a few pence to develop...

SherlockLGJ · 14/12/2006 19:29

Call me cynical, but I am starting to spot a pattern.

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 14/12/2006 19:32

LGJ - I don't understand. How are you BTW?

tassis · 14/12/2006 19:34

oooh, excited to read Olan Mills have good reviews...

I have a free sitting and one picture thanks to Bounty.

I'm sure I'll spend more but heard that you can get another 4 for about £60. Not bad.

SherlockLGJ · 14/12/2006 19:35

I am fine thanks Dior, I was talking about the fact that nearly every post is about VN being A) Crap B) Expensive.

Did you ever take your little man to Café Rouge ?

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 19:39

And c)can cause marriage break ups!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 14/12/2006 19:40

ho hum

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 19:43

They come in nice frames though!

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 14/12/2006 19:43

IMHO

SOME of the photos on the website are horrible

WHY do people like them?????????

We had some lovely ones done by a local photographer and they are deffo brill

imnot27 · 14/12/2006 19:52

Have looked at the Olan Mills site, looks good, and a montage of 20" x 24" or sommat is £185! The venture same size is £760!!

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 19:53

They are the only pictures that H ever felt were cool enough to be displayed in our lounge!

pedilia · 14/12/2006 19:53

Glad I caught this thread as DH has been going on and on about getting piccies done with Venture.

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 14/12/2006 20:02

No, forgot to go to be honest! Will get there one day no doubt. We have discovered that he likes Nandos though, so it is our new 'pizza hut'

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 20:03

They do offer for you to pay them off over 10 months!

wjwalsh · 14/12/2006 20:45

If you know what you want, you could probably get a local photographer or studio to make a good go at it. We asked a local chap after reading about Venture on MN, and showed him some pictures to give him the idea, he laughed and said "oh, Venture-style then"! He just brought a white background and lights and set them up at home, I got us and kids into co-ordinating jeans and t-shirts etc.

We don't have the full running around barefoot in a white room thing, but three lovely informal portraits, to frame ourselves, for under £70. And a digital image too so I can edit out the grey hairs...

Pinkchampagne · 14/12/2006 20:50

I had the price list last week, but have since binned it!
They do charge a lot, I can confirm that much!!

viticella · 14/12/2006 20:51

wjw, I was writing my message and didn't see yours but I think our chap was the lower end of the market, semi-retired and doing it for love rather than money. good luck

Twohootsunderthemistletoe · 14/12/2006 22:53

imnot27 - that's the size we got I think but I thought it was around £170. We now have 2 of those, and a smaller montage (have had 3 sittings so far and have one left) and still haven't spent anywhere near Venture prices for ONE photo!

All ours are white backgrounds/floors too!

Ladies, you just have to be careful though as Olan Mills, like Venture is a national franchise therefore your photographer won't be the same everywhere. If you are really interested, go in to your studio and ask to see some work (they have loads on the walls) before you commit. As I said earlier, I have heard of a couple of studios where the photographer hasn't been great. Saying that we've had a different photographer at each of our sessions and they've all been fab!

Oh and a tip - when I registered with our 'watch me grow' I got a money off card for each of our 4 sessions. On the first session (and our best so far) we not only got the 8x10 print free but got all the photos on a CD to keep (worth around £130!). That was mega as you get the copyright too so can send/reprint as you like! This session just gone we got 10% off our whole order.

Another point is don't be surprised if you get taken into a 'dingy' room to be shown your photos (and you get shown them there and then and have to choose then - although you do have the option to put in additional orders up to 6 months after). I think this is where OM differ from Venture - not salubrious surroundings (sp) - but then that's reflected in the price!!

Apparently Venture have started making their photos 'tamper proof' on the back so you can't get them out of the frames to scan/reprint (not that I am suggesting you'd do that of course ).

Sorry to go on but I hope I've helped answer some earlier questions...

Emskilou · 14/12/2006 23:00

I had some cheesy pics done at Portrait place and picked them up today, I was booked in to go to venture friend told me of the prices so I opted for the extra mature cheddar ones from portrait place, not the best pics but make me chuckle so not all bad and a collection of 6 with a shed load of minature versions cost £160 unframed, better than £4.2 billion for a wallet size one from venture!!

schmitchell · 15/12/2006 07:54

hi - don't have price list but if you go on their website and enter offer code PRBM1234 when buying a voucher you will save extra £5! Means you will get session and photo for just £19.99. Think offer ends 18/12/06 though.
