Ok, so today I bought a mooncup after much deliberation.

Any tips for first time application ?

Should I leave it til my period is finished before experimenting ?

Thanks

to Pruni's husband...

gosh, thanks, that is a relief about the mooncup contents. terrible to think i've never known before. now all i need to know is how to stop DH from using it to care for wildlife and woodland creatures...

I don't get sticky fingers. What are you all doing with them?

alibubbles · 14/10/2006 11:11

I thought my periods had finished after having my Mirena coil out in Feb, but got one yesterday. I used a tampon until I could find my moonup and the cramping was awful, as though the (TMI) blood was being leached out of my body into the tampon.

Thank goodness I found my mooncup, (I'd had to buy another one cos I'd sold it not thinking I'd need it anymore) but I have had to empty it every two hours as I have been leaking as it is so full. I flooded the bed twice last night too, got a cracking headache...roll on the menopause proper!

It is so much better than tampons, mine is full of clots the size of cherry tomatoes!

'the size of cherry tomatoes'

that is an image which will haunt my salads for the rest of my life...

oh alibubbles you have had so much trouble with this - I remember from past threads. Must be really frustrating thinking you were done with it and then it all comes back.

I have had times when my flow has been so heavy that the mooncup has flooded in 20 minutes - but think it was the implant causing it. So I got put on the pill for 3 months (in addition to implant) but have just finished the period following my last pack of pills so who knows what is going to happen next.

Franny I think a lighter flow helps with these things.

And wrt to the mucus I have occasionally put mine in the night before thinking I might come on in the night and got up in the morning and it might be up to a quarter full of mucus when I get up. So this is obviously natural stuff that I am producing all the time.

Alibubbles - no offence, but I'm at selling a mooncup...

I too put mine up too far the first time. I had cut the tail off completely, thinking, 'Oh, MN people said you don't need it', and then was panicking because it was too far up to squeeze the bottom! Remembered to 'bear down' on it though and it slipped down enough to grab...phew!

alibubbles · 15/10/2006 08:04

DastardlyDevilishDior, sssshhhhh, it was to somone on MN. I had two and a keeper, which I also sold, as I didn't think I needed it anymore. I have just bought a new one as I like to have two, and it was half the price of my original one!

DastardlyDevilishDior · 15/10/2006 19:21

Ali - bleugh (sorry!)

alibubbles · 15/10/2006 20:31

Think about the speculum whan you have a smear test, how many wwomen has that been inside

It was sterilised and I am sure the recipient sterilised it again!

DastardlyDevilishDior · 15/10/2006 20:33

I do try not to think about it! And the dentist's equipment. I try to imagine that they have bought new ones for each user! Actually, my gp uses disposable speculums (or should that be specula?!)
