Lady garden - what is the done thing?!

Recently re entered the world of sex.

The last time I was single and having new sexual relationships it was 2009 and shaving everything off was what my friends and I did. Hollywood style, I think it's called.

I'm now older and lazier and could really do without the stubble rash. Equally, I'm not that keen on being in a busy salon and seeing a beautician for a wax in close proximity (covid wary). Full on Bush seems a bit unattractive though!? Even trimmed.

Having sex is a mind field.

Is there a current fashion for maintaining pubic hair?

I think that there is certainly a fashion for a waxed/shaved pubic area among women, but you need to do what's right for you. Any partner who rejects you on the grounds of either the presence, or lack of pubic hair is shallow in the extreme and does not deserve to be intimate with you.

I am a man and I have a preference for a hairless pubic area, purely on the grounds of it being better for me when giving oral sex, but it would in no way be a deal-breaker if a potential partner had a bush.

I wish you good luck in your return to a sex life, and recommend that you don't agonise over any aspect of it - just be safe and enjoy yourself.

Echo what xpc has said in every detail

EndersGame · 06/01/2022 21:57

Just go with what you feel comfortable with. This chap should feel grateful for getting that close.

Shunter350 · 07/01/2022 00:06

Don’t worry about. Guys who are worth knowing won’t care.
Personally I like my partner to be “sparse”. It’s great for oral and I like to see her. I feel privileged!
But it’s definitely not an issue I would mention if she was bushy, it’s her body. And I would still entertain her!

Namechangednorth · 07/01/2022 06:01

I think in reality, not a lot has changed since 2009 as you last describe. Men generally prefer hairless. There are some that prefer not but they seem more the minority.

Certainly from our drunken girlie chats (granted more pre covid) the general view up to the late 40s age as that is the age span of my girlie night out group, was very much their OH liked them bare. The issue then was shaving, waxing or hair removal cream.

You will get the very strong do as you want....which is true but I think a lot of women also like not only pleasing themselves but their partner as well so yes it's your choice.

My DH is very much in the bare camp. I just how much he loves me like that and I love knowing it and pleasing him

StarlightLady · 07/01/2022 06:13

The “current fashion” is do what is right for you. Your body, your rules.

I’m early 40s and have been a “bald eagle” for as long as l can remember but that’s my personal choice. I have even been asked to grow it in the past (refused!).

I prefer the feel and it’s certainly less sweaty in the warmer weather. I swim regularly too and it is also more practical for high leg cossies.

I tend to flit between shaving and waxing, although waxing is smoother, with the latter l get bored with the regrowth period and, as you say there are covid considerations. It is easy just to quickly run a razor over as part of my daily morning shower routine. If you shave with hair conditioner as opposed to gels or soaps the razor glides. There are also electric so called bikini (named for the coy l think) shavers on the market.

To conclude, we are talking about your real best friend here! Pamper her and treat her as you wish to.

Enjoy your new friendships 🌷.

Thank you all.
I think I will brave a wax this week.
He seems very keen on giving oral and I understand that's probably better as bare as possible.
Though he hasn't said anything negative about the mini-bush! Thankfully.

Good to hear you are giving it a try. I had my first full wax more unplanned...went for a bikini wax before a holiday and my beautician had noticed that I ha d away and then clearly shaved higher and suggested she wax what I normally took off. Rather sheepishly I admitted all of it and she was just so matter of fact and suggested why didn't I just try it and let her wax me properly and so I tried. Was still slightly embarrassed but she was so matter of fact and professional she just made it easy. Saying she does several a day helped! Good luck and I'm sure he will be delighted as you will be
B1rdflyinghigh · 08/01/2022 16:47

I'm shaved around the labia, a strip of hair on top. Although, saying that, I had an incident a week ago where I forgot to put the guard on and shaved the lot of. So now Im stubbly on top, shaved at the bottom...oops.

heisawanker · 08/01/2022 23:51

Electric razor just neatly trimmed short without stubble rash works for me

StarlightLady · 09/01/2022 06:26

OP, ‘hope am not too late for this. If you are not used to waxing, it’s best not to have sex the same day as your wax.

Overall, l think you will enjoy the benefits. It can also very pleasantly increase the sensitivity for oral. Shhhh! 😉

DementedPanda · 11/01/2022 11:48

I tried the shaving as like a previous poster I'm not keen on the idea of going to a salon... now I'm left with a rash.. help!!

StarlightLady · 11/01/2022 17:04

@DementedPanda - Are you using a good quality hair conditioner and a new blade? What is fine for your legs may not be so forgiving elsewhere.

BootySOS · 11/01/2022 19:30

Oh no @DementedPanda you have my sympathy. I find it so very uncomfortable and lasts days.

I haven't been for my wax yet as we aren't seeing each other until next week. I'll have to learn how to do it at home if this relationship continues, it's blooming expensive at the salon.

I used hair conditioner and a Gillette razor. I'm all red a sore and with no hair... the slightest movement is nice 🙈 but I'm developing and angry red rash and it's growing through straight away.

Riapia · 13/01/2022 19:33

My fanny looks best tucked away in it’s little fur jacket.
I’ve got an innie and an outtie, not a pretty sight.
I do keep it neatly trimmed around the borders, it’s not unkempt.

itsalldramaramarama · 13/01/2022 19:43

Normally leave a narrow strip but messed it up so I shaved off the whole lot !! Quite like it but 3 days in and it's like bloody Velcro sticking to my knickers!! Just about to whip it all off again !

SparklingStars10 · 13/01/2022 19:58

At the moment, mine resembles my actual garden, messy and overgrown.

CaveWoman1 · 14/01/2022 19:50

I don’t think most men really give a monkeys at the point at which they’re within a foot of your fanny. Do what you want and what makes you feel sexy

Maybe your sights are set a bit low. My experience pre DH was that men could be fussy and most certainly liked women very well groomed or preferably bare
dogfishman · 15/01/2022 22:56

Am a bloke, and provided it's not like hacking a path through the Amazon jungle I really don't mind much, assuming I'm attracted to her overall.

StarlightLady · 16/01/2022 05:37

Any rash probs from those new to this, try Sudocream or Calendula. You will probably find with frequent shaves, the body settles to it.

StarlightLady · 16/01/2022 05:39

PS: Avoid a blunt blade or ultra cheap disposables. Try the Gillette Raspberry.

Josuk · 16/01/2022 12:13

I think it ends up cheaper to laser it off - the amount of money you’ll spend on waxing over the years, plus pain, etc.
Laser isn’t painful these days and gives good results.

This thread is a depressing read for this man. I blame the Americans ...its usually their fault! Recently it occurred to me that between shaving and circumcision most Americans have never seen another adult as nature intended. How sad , but need we all follow them?
