Sex when on period

Just that really, is it always a grim/ not nice experience for men? And how do you bring it up? I'm a grown woman and feel really embarrased about it when I know it's irrational, periods are a normal thing

'I'm on my period - I don't mind if you don't, but it's ok if it's not your thing'.

wizzywig · 04/12/2020 11:12

@wishfuldreamer thank you!

Man here. Period sex has never bothered me in the slightest, it’s just a normal part of how a woman’s body works. Stick a towel down and crack on!

wizzywig · 04/12/2020 13:50

So basically, crack on?

I am a man, and was in no way turned off by the sight of a bit of blood when my partner was menstruating. Luckily, she is a nurse and therefore quite accustomed to bodily fluids. She did not feel much like sex during the first couple of days, but after that she was often really quite horny.

All this is in the past, as she went through the menopause a few years ago. Whilst I wasn't averse to period sex, I must say that I am now glad that we don't have to even think about it.

I generally feel like a head's up is required - a kind of 'just so you know', but my flow can be quite heavy. And, actually, when it is, I generally don't really feel that horny...and I worry about making a mess. So sex is usually a no-go for days 1 and 2 of my cycle (and about to ruin my evening with boyf this evening after not having seen him for aaaaages. harrumph), but that's my choice. I'm sure there are guys out there who wouldn't care at all. my ex was never a fan of period sex.

This has now reminded me of this...

j712adrian · 04/12/2020 15:37

I'm bloke, it's fine.

Might want to avoid the heavy bit TBH.

Crystal87 · 04/12/2020 16:01

I'm a woman, don't like it myself as it's too heavy, but my husband isn't bothered by it and a few exes in the past haven't been bothered by it either.

Sunflowergirl1 · 04/12/2020 16:20

I've never been keen...but have a Mirena iud now so no periods at all ...yippee lol

PinotPony · 04/12/2020 16:24

If you're that bothered about it, you could always use a ziggy cup (like a moon cup but shallow). I find that a menstrual sponge is also really good and most men can't tell it's there.

Voyager54 · 04/12/2020 18:27

I think that the easy solution is to use a condom and a towel

Namechangeforhere · 04/12/2020 18:43

I'm not a fan to be honest, and neither is DW. Oral is usually a part of foreplay, and she simply won't allow it when its that time. We made an exception for our honeymoon, but in all honesty we would both rather wait for a few days.

zarek · 04/12/2020 20:44

It's a non issue in a relationship in my view. There's not actually that much blood, if anything it seems to abate when you decide to have sex. Plus a bit of blood is no big deal

fineokthen · 04/12/2020 21:54

Personally I think women are pressurised to think oh it's all normal what's wrong with me .
My periods suck. They're heavy , the smell isn't great and I feel like I'm being stabbed in the vagina . As much as I love sex, i like that little break and the build up to it being over .

wizzywig · 05/12/2020 02:30

@wishfuldreamer oh my god that video!!!

I have 5 days a month where I feel like I've been hit by a bus so it's a no from me.

The menopause can't come quick enough.

Kwiregirl · 05/12/2020 14:24

We use a black towel on the bed and I seem to be horny just before to the mid point of my period - so we end up having more sex at that time of the month. It just seems natural to us and very enjoyable.

BigButtons · 06/12/2020 08:56

My partner doesn’t mind at all. It is very refreshing that he doesn’t.Smile

krustybread · 06/12/2020 15:00

My partner isn't fussed at all. Towel and a condom if necessary. Job done.

wizzywig · 06/12/2020 16:54

Doesn't it smell though?

OP posts:
krustybread · 06/12/2020 18:04

I don't notice a smell at all. DP is a police officer so he deals with blood frequently, that probably helps Grin

AverageGuy · 07/12/2020 10:36

No issues for me, although I prefer to wear a condom.

Eesha · 07/12/2020 14:13

My last two partners haven't been bothered. I think my partner would ideally not in theory but when we are together, he doesn't care so we just use a towel and go for it. I love that he isn't bothered and have no qualms about doing anything with him.

Maddison12 · 29/12/2020 19:23

Can't see why anyone would think it was a problem tbh, my OH has never minded, don't know why anyone would let a bit of blood stop them if they're 'in the moment.'
I've never noticed a smell and you obviously shower straight after so all good.
As PP said just stick a towel down and crack on!

Ltdannygreen · 14/01/2021 22:21

I would never have period sex purely because I always feel like utter shit and don’t want anyone within a 2 foot radius 😂
