Smooth/shaved

Was going to name change but couldn’t be bothered.

So apparently most women under 30 are hairless down there and apparently most men prefer women without hair.

I am single but dating and having NSA sex. I would love to be smooth down there but whenever I shave I end up with small boils where the hair grows back or I get really sore which sometimes resaults in thrush. I am petrified ath the thought of waxing but is it the only way?

Hot was is less painful and don't get ingrown hairs after.

Eleanorsummer · 16/02/2018 15:31

wax*

Joey7t8 · 16/02/2018 22:31

Get it waxed professionally. It hurts far less when done by a someone that knows what they’re doing. And the women that work in salons will see dozens of fannies and bums every day, so no need to be embarrassed about your body.

fluffyalive · 16/02/2018 22:55

It is a personal preference of course, but it is more hygienic not to shave your pubic hair:

Someone once gave me good tip for preventing the ingrowing hair / spots problem and it really does work ..... exfoliate the area with a body scrub first . I've not had an I'm growing hair in years .

NotTheFordType · 20/02/2018 01:51

Shaving is a lot more hygienic for me. Makes me a lot less sweaty, means no matted clumps of blood during periods, and wow I can actually feel something and have an orgasm during oral sex, hooray!

Here's my tips for shaving, bearing I think kind I used to struggle massively with ingrown hairs.

  1. Use men's products. Men shave their faces daily in most cases and their products are generally superior. I use a Gillette Power ball razor, Nivia mens sensitive shave gel, and Dove Mencare Aftershave balm.
  2. Shave your public area BEFORE you get in the shower, ie when it's dry. The razor gets easier traction this way.
  3. Shave with the grain, not against it.
  4. Pay proper attention to where you're shaving, this is so much easier when you're not under the water. I like to leave a landing strip but take care to remove all the hair from my labia minora and labia majora. If you want to remove the hair from round your Anus, I find squatting in the bath or shower gives you adequate reach.
  5. After you shave and/or shower, be very careful to gently pat the shaved area dry, do not towel it off roughly (this also goes for your armpits!)
  6. Once dry, apply an aftershave balm. I prefer dove but I think Gillette also do one.
  7. Replace your razor head regularly, I'd suggest once a month.
  8. Avoid underwear that's made of non breathable fabric, try to use cotton as much as possible.

I shave every two days with this routine and I've gone from having ingrown hairs literally all the time to very rarely experiencing them. Hope it helps!

So much hard work NotTheFord.

Lovemusic33 · 20/02/2018 16:00

I have given up with trying to shave, I just tidied it up with a razor a couple days ago and I have 3 I grown hairs which have caused spots/boils, it looks hideous like I have some kind of sti.

I’m going to attemp the hot wax in a few days (being ferel for a few days first), I am hoping it’s not too painful 😖

Some men love the chewbacca look in my experience!

bananaberyl · 20/02/2018 22:28

Def exfoliate. Def hot wax. Def professional not DIY. I have an incredibly low pain threshold and I don't like having it done (I pray that nobody outside the room thinks I'm being murdered!) but it takes about 20 minutes and is so worth it. If you are near London go to Strip wax bars.

HarmlessChap · 21/02/2018 11:07

No foof to comment on but I've a few decades experience of shaving my face and have had issues with ingrown hairs and razor bumps.

If you're using a multi-blade razor, as most people do, they can be can be the cause of ingrown hairs. The leading blade pulls the hair up and trailing blades cut it shorter, the hair then settles back below skin level an grows off in the wrong direction. I find it tends to be worse the longer the stubble.

I now use a razor which takes a double edge blade but bic orange disposable single blade ones are much under rated and cheap at 10 for £1 in Tesco which might be worth a try.

Proseccopanda · 21/02/2018 18:04

I'm hair free and smooth underneath, with a little landing strip. I use an epilator, and get very few ingrown hairs, if any. I used to shave, but hated that itchy, stubbly feel. I do it for me btw, I just feel cleaner (have had thrush far less since de-bushing).

Shadow01 · 21/02/2018 19:11

I use an epilator too. I rarely have a problem with ingrowing hairs and for the money works out a lot cheaper than waxing.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/02/2018 20:44

Nearly killed me to use an epilator on my legs never mind anywhere else!

Shadow01 · 22/02/2018 21:46

I can now take everything off with my epilator, apparently your skin gets used to it.

Lovemusic33 · 23/02/2018 13:38

Well I just attempted hot wax at home, please tell me it gets less painful? I think it might take me a couple days to complete, the neighbours probably think I’m being murdered.

Lovemusic. If you are going to wax, do NOT do it at home. Go to a professional. I always used to have my bikini line done and sometimes shave the rest. My beautician picked up on it, and as we had got to know each other asked me why I was doing half and half lol. She persuaded me try a full wax. I took a soluble pain killer 30 mins before as Im rubbish with pain and it was pretty ok. Once over the embarrassment, the result was fabulous....and well...to say hubby was delighted was an understatement!! I have it done regularly now and don't take any pain killers as a decent beautician will be quick and should keep you relaxed. Never tried an epilator but sounds grim.

RubyRed2017 · 27/02/2018 15:04

I got mine lasered off as I had the same problem of ingrowing hairs and rashes after shaving or epilating. It wasn't that painful but it was very expensive. Since then I've had a bit of regrowth, and some of the hairs were white which the laser didn't remove. So once a week I go over it with a razor to get the strays. I might get a Philips Lumea to get rid of the rest as I can't afford any more sessions.

Joey7t8 · 28/02/2018 22:48

Seriously, it will be far less painful if you get it done by a pro! These women do dozens of intimate waxes every day and know what they’re doing to minimise the pain.

fluffyalive · 01/03/2018 15:40

Shaving is simply less hygienic; this is a scientific fact. You cannot say that is more hygienic 'for me'; we are talking about evidence not personal preference

Regular shaving or waxing irritates the hair follicles giving us microscopic open wounds. The irritation is in the warm moist environment of the genitals, making it a great breeding ground for harmful bacteria.

I agree, to a degree, that shaving is a personal preference. However, a few years ago nobody shaved. Everybody in the swimming pool showers would have a bush. There is obviously pressure to make hair seem ugly to get people to shave.

ForalltheSaints · 01/03/2018 19:25

How does the OP know most men prefer the smooth look? Sounds like its only those who watched too much porn in their youth.

Lovemusic33 · 01/03/2018 19:32

Forall I heard it on a certain tv programme, from a survey aimed at under 30’s.

But yes it’s a personal preference and it’s my personal preference, I’m not doing it to please a man, I prefer being hairless. I don’t like men hairless though, I find it weird as I like my men manly Grin

I don’t think it’s necesaraly a porn thing but yes most women in porn are shaved or have little pubic hair.

TheGruffalosArse · 02/03/2018 09:16

Who cares if men like the hairy look? When it's all shaved off you can feel much more, it's all sensitive when bare. Not everything is about what men want.

Lovemusic33 · 02/03/2018 10:06

Exactly Thegruffalo I like the feel, I like the look and I find it cleaner when I’m on my period (I have heavy periods).

MarieG10 · 02/03/2018 13:33

Having been smooth for a while now, I can't imagine going back to being hairy, and I like it that my husband really likes me like that. However is all personal preference...although from a poll on a girlie night out with too much wine, the consensus with my friends were that most were shaved/waxed!
