Email from school that rumours are not true that IGSCE to be resat. Apparently statement from Pearson imminently.

Braveheart35 · 13/06/2024 17:45

Even IGCSE

We were told it was an option that they were considering but have just had notification that it is not having to be resat and that the integrity of the paper has been upheld

Countrylife2002 · 13/06/2024 18:15

So, here dd is all revisioned out. She’s busy making plans for tomorrow afternoon and next week and I’ve opened the Prosecco as it’s become evident I’ll be driving tomorrow eve so I am celebrating this evening instead!

Philandbill · 13/06/2024 18:24

One more day.....

dinomirror · 13/06/2024 18:31

Anyone elses DC flip flopping with A Levels? After being against STEM a level for majority of y11, apparently its Bio,Chem history??? Apparently she can get into most degree she wants this way and the previous history, politics, econ was limiting. I have no idea if right

Waspie · 13/06/2024 18:46

Try www.informedchoices.ac.uk @dinomirror - you can put in the A level choices and it tells you degrees which you can take with those A levels.

Wehaditsogood · 13/06/2024 18:53

@Braveheart35 Thank you. My anxiety was through the roof since I read this thread last night.
DS has been working so hard for so long. He would be so disappointed if it didn't end tomorrow. They took a class photo this week and he looks ill and shattered. (He was ill.)

Talking of holidays, we'll be away on results day and I foolishly assumed if you weren't there to collect in person they could be emailed (DD's were but that was COVID times).

I've just had an email from DS's school and exam results will not be emailed under any circumstances. So we have the option of getting someone else to collect them for us (which in our case means grandparents I suppose, and I suspect DS really doesn't want them seeing them first), or provide a stamped addressed envelope and have them posted which means we won't see them until we get home on 28th.

Gah!

My DD took a couple in year ten and it hadnt crossed my mind that we would be away for results day!

it was a VERY stressful morning where we went through various routes to allow her friend to collect them and open then over FaceTime

steppemum · 13/06/2024 19:21

Interesting that people are talking about contingency dates plural.
We have one on the schedule, 26th June. Nothing else.

We are away, but we are on holiday at a family home, so we wouldn't lose anything to come home early or not go at all.
I did sort of assume though that if the contingency was used, then we would know by the time all the exams had been sat. I wasn't expecting that they would annouce a resit of an exam??

We were away for DD1s A level results.
School will not email, her friend collected them for her and then photographed the page.
BUT for A level, you are also waiting for a confirmation of your place from the university. We have found that that is sent out early in the morning before results released. So dd knew she had a uni place, even though she hadn't seen her results. (that came in by email)
Ironically, she did really badly in her A levels, but the uni took her anyway. So she was much less disappointed than if she had just had the results first.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/06/2024 19:35

@steppemum there are 2 1/2 days and one full

That is exactly the same here! Ds is going out straight after physics so I’ll be taxi. Prosecco therefore has been opened tonight! Cannot believe we have the final final day of school tomorrow

GlomOfNit · 13/06/2024 19:53

re. contingency days - DS's school made it clear from the outset and often Grin that 'all students are to remain available up to and including Wednesday June 26th' in case of national events necessitating exam boards having to reschedule any exams. I took this to mean 'in case the King dies or we have another pandemic' but like others here, hadn't considered the possibility of papers retrospectively looking a bit iffy.

He's therefore - barring any untimely royal accidents - got next week off to slump, and has a lot of plans which mostly involve staying in his room and doing an awful lot of miniatures building and painting. The week after that is his 6th form induction week and we somehow need to find him some 'smart' clothes that aren't school uniform, which he'll never be wearing again. (His state 6th form has an extremely old fashioned dress code.) So next week I might have to drag at least his lower half into an M&S to fit his legs into some chinos or similar.

Meanwhile, two to go. He's spent today doing little pockets of physics revision and reminding me he doesn't really need to revise Geography 3 ...

Oh that's a relief, @Braveheart35, thank you.

Wehaditsogood · 13/06/2024 21:10

@GlomOfNit Oh, no! We have not even considered what DS would where for the transition days. Thanks for the tip.

BlackBean2023 · 14/06/2024 06:21

It's finally here - last day for us!

DD is going into school for a 2 hour physics revision session this morning before the exam this afternoon.

Can't believe that in 9 hours it'll all be over Grin

(Then the anxiety will set in about 22nd August!)

bluefineliner · 14/06/2024 06:32

Morning!

Yes, the last day thank goodness. I have to say DD has already checked out of revision after Tuesday so no idea how this physics exam will go today.

We ventured on to the results day topic last night with her but she is not looking forward to it as she has convinced herself she has done much worse than everyone will expect ( I disagree) so she has demanded that we tell no one her results on the day, not even family 🙄.

We got off the subject very quickly and I will not be discussing again if I can before August!

Are we all going to hang around to support/congratulate each other on 22nd Aug? I'll need to stress with like minded people on the days running up.

You'd never believe I've been through all this before would you? 😂

WhereAreWeNow · 14/06/2024 06:56

I'm so relieved it's the final exam (but a bit emotional about the end of secondary school). DD doesn't seem to have done much Physics revision at all. She barely revised for Physics paper 1 either. I think she's just exhausted. We all are!

Countrylife2002 · 14/06/2024 07:05

I’m having a lazy day working on the sofa and only leaving the house for dog walks. Making the most of solitude before the long summer !

DD has also done barely any revision . Do you think subject teachers groan when they see their subject right at the end ?!!

gingercat02 · 14/06/2024 07:08

DS was really stressed last night, 2 days off has done him no good at all!

It has felt like I have been waiting for today for months. We are finally done 🙌
DS is going to the beach after physics and then out to watch the first match of the Euros so I won't see him until late.

We haven't talked about August, and I have no plans to do so.

Thanks for the company and support. See you all on the other side.

Techno56 · 14/06/2024 07:13

Still music to go on Monday here, so today doesn't feel as nice as I'd like it to!

Last day for us too. DS seemed very unsure of himself yesterday. Geography and Physics are 2 pretty strong subjects for him so think it's just tiredness.

@bluefineliner I'm in!

hels71 · 14/06/2024 07:25

We've still got design and further maths next week.

ouch44 · 14/06/2024 07:26

Good luck to those finishing today and well done!

Dd still has further maths after today but she’s not too bothered about that so she is getting excited! She’s a revision machine so still going! She was exhausted when she had a cold and lots of exams the week before half term but she’s fine now the end is in sight! It’s cost a lot in treats and takeaways though!

DS has 3 Alevel exams next week so it’s probably a good thing Dd not finished till Wednesday!

in 2022 there was a question that everyone complained about that shouldn’t have been in an exam (these were first exams post-Covid and they cut the spec) and they awarded everyone the marks for the question. Perhaps an option with the polygon question?
