I'm narrowing down the schools search but I'm more interested in the diversity of these schools because challoners high is a bit more diverse than becky high, and i want my DD to go to a diverse school (shes mixed) and also i want your opinon on how you would rank these schools (forget about distances to my house for now). Thanks

I live nearby and also in catchment for both schools. You are also likely to be in catchment for Chesham Grammar (mixed) if thats a consideration. I would let your DD get the feel of both and make her own choice. For what it's worth having lived in the area 30 years I have seen most choose DCHS over BHS where they have the choice. I have also seen girls move from BHS to DCHS for 6th form amongst my neighbours but not seen it the other way round (not saying it doesnt happen). Have you considered your options if she doesnt pass the test?

GX to Chesham is a bit of a daily slog. I think if most locally go to DCGS, I’d go there!

Thanks both - My daughter currently goes to an independent girls prep school so we are looking at a girls school ideally. We are also looking at independent schools like RMS, St George’s and Pipers as a back up plan.

We really liked the head at DCHC and the grounds and buildings look more new compared to BHS. But BHS seemed more sporty and seemed to offer more extra curricular. My daughter is both academic and sporty.

can I ask if any of your daughters went to any of these two schools?

TizerorFizz · 18/03/2025 00:02

@Carrie17. No. I’m further north from GX. However I worked for the LA in that area and do know the reputation of the schools. Most people would be delighted with either to be fair!

I would ask for views on some of the local FB forums on both schools. I’ve seen useful feedback on both.

@Carrie17 honestly these schools are so much-of-a-muchness that you should opt for the one where your DD got the better vibes. She is likely.to do well academically at either, so where will she be happiest?

DD2 was educated in south Bucks (albeit not at a grammar or private school) and knows girls from.both DCHS and BHS. As does DS.

BHS are very strong at netball, so if that is a passion of your DD's, that could be a consideration. Otherwise, sport in general is encouraged at both schools, but not necessarily a priority.

Considering diversity & academic achievement, personally I would say
Wycombe high.

Chesham is co-ed if you're considering boy siblings too, DHC diverse but not as much as other schools in the area. Becky is good academically but not much diversity. I live in the area and have friends sending Becky/Wycombe high/DHC/ Chesham and I have younger children so I'm very keen on these schools and have been researching & attending open days couple of months ago :)
