My son’s school is closing unexpectedly so we have to find a new school.Eaton Square is one of the recommended schools they are suggesting. The reviews here and on the internet are bad so does anyone have any recent experience with it?

Good morning NWLon

I hope this message finds you well. I noticed your message and felt I should reach out to you, especially as I know it is such a huge decision to make in finding the right fit school for your child. I am a current parent of Eaton Square Senior School/ London Park School Mayfair and am also the Chair of The Friends of Eaton Square Senior School (The Friends being the PTA). My son has been a pupil at Eaton Square Senior since Year 7 and he has had a truly fantastic experience to date. The staff and teachers do an outstanding job and they really do care and get the best out of your child, especially as it is a small school and they take the time to know each child individually. The way in which they educate their students emulates one on one tutoring of the highest standard with the small class sizes. I was expecting a high standard having meticulously researched the school and attended an Open Day beforehand, but my expectations were exceeded and my son has always looked forward to going into school every day. The school emphasises the importance of its values and builds leadership through the range of classes and lessons and have recently introduced a wide range of after school clubs (there is so much to choose from!). The pupils are very respectful and my son has not had any concerns whatsoever and as a parent, neither have I.

I would definitely recommend attending an Open Day at the school and the Headteacher and staff would provide you with an overview of the school and you will be given a tour of the school (it really is a beautiful building so I hope you do take the time to visit!). The Headteacher, Dr Rainbow, is absolutely brilliant and I have had so many other parents share the same view. I really do hope my response has helped even in some small way. At times, we can all focus on the negatives (reviews included!) when in fact there are so many positive experiences, such as the experience both my son and I have had at Eaton Square Senior School. This was the best decision my son and I made together and it is a wonderful feeling, seeing your child flourish and take pride in representing their school. I wish you the best of luck with your search in finding the right school for your son. If I can be of any further help, then please do reply.

All the very best. (P.s They also have a Sixth Form in Victoria - My son has his heart set on going there too!) 😀

That's a bit of a shock. There is nothing on the Portland Place school website to indicate any issues.

So sorry to hear this. I know a family with a daughter in year 7 who will be devastated.
are they recommending those schools because they are part of the same group of schools? Have you considered aldenham or st Chris’ letchworth? When is PP closing?

It is closing at the end of the academic year. There’s nothing on the website but we all had an email last Thursday. Portland is now Inspired group and Eaton square is dukes. they are different but they are recomming the Eaton square school because some of their teachers left and went there and they are pushing it in school telling the children about it over and over.

Thank you for the recommendation that is good to hear.

@FRLondon can I ask how the Eaton square students and parents are adjusting to the news that your school might be about to almost double in size?

It still looks very much like a building site!

Eaton Square Senior/ London Park School Mayfair will not be doubling in size per se, (although the school absolutely welcomes pupils from other schools, capacity permitting!).
For those that join from other schools, I am sure Eaton Square Senior will do all they can to help with what is a very difficult situation and will assimilate students effectively to ensure they feel comfortable. Over the years, I have personally seen new starters join in all different year groups and at different times. My son had a new starter join in his year group last year and it was a seamless transition (the new starter is now a very good friend of my son's!), so some of the pupils have not been at the school since the very beginning and settle in very quickly.

The school will always remain a smaller school even with additional students as they would not want to compromise the quality of education or care provided.

We now fall under the umbrella of 'London Park Schools (LPS),' comprising of LPS Mayfair, LPS Clapham and the Eaton Square Sixth Form.
Despite being a small school, we will now have the added benefit and opportunity to collaborate with LPS Clapham and the Sixth Form, and staff and departments are exploring opportunities to work together on future trips, clubs and shared activities and events. So very exciting times ahead!!

Parents and pupils will have the best of both worlds by being able to work together with their sister schools, returning to their small communities thereafter. Pupils from LPS Mayfair and LPS Clapham will filter into Eaton Square Sixth Form, so it's great that they would have had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with each another, having collaborated beforehand.

Do try and attend an Open Day or arrange a visit to the school if you can - it really helps to decide if it's the right fit for your child. And do speak to staff, teachers and existing pupils (my son would be more than happy to give his honest opinion of the school!).

I hope this helps. Please do reach out if you have any further questions and I would be more than happy to answer them.
Have a great day!

I know many people with kids at Eaton Sq Prep. None of them plan to keep their kids there for senior school. The results aren’t good at all. The smart kids mostly move to selective senior schools.

Any idea what this school experience is like for girls? Given the small class sizes, do girls comprise at least half the year group?

Hi @AgileTiger
I hope you are well. There are no plans for Eaton Square Mayfair to close. Instead, it will be known as London Park School (LPS) Mayfair and will fall under the umbrella of 'London Park Schools (LPS),' comprising of LPS Mayfair, LPS Clapham and the Eaton Square Sixth Form. There will be lots of opportunities for them to collaborate together!

Pupils from LPS Mayfair and LPS Clapham will filter into Eaton Square Sixth Form.
I hope this helps!
