My son’s school is closing unexpectedly so we have to find a new school.Eaton Square is one of the recommended schools they are suggesting. The reviews here and on the internet are bad so does anyone have any recent experience with it?

@YourWorthyHazelBiscuit can you please say more? I would appreciate it very much

YourWorthyHazelBiscuit · 13/03/2024 14:10

Look into other options. This school is a business. It is a small school that won’t be happy and won’t work with alot of new joiners even if they say they are. Ask the children that go there for the truth.

SleepyHollowed84 · 17/03/2024 21:41

I do hope everyone listens to the honest reviews here. Personally, from the way they are talking, it is quite obvious FRLondon is a staff member at LPS/Eaton Square, perhaps a member of the marketing/comms team.

For what it's worth we have friends who have DC at the prep school who are not planning to keep their children there for senior. I don't know the details but they're looking for a more academically challenging senior environment.

Our DC we’re at the prep so we moved up with a few others to. My DC still talk to some of the old class who are still at Eaton although not many left now lots have left to and they aren’t happy with the changes as it’s getting to big now.Parents must be angry as the new ones are paying less acording to the children who went in last week but I don’t know if that is right

MellowRobin · 27/03/2024 09:34

My son is year 11 at Eaton/LPS Mayfair since for the last few years. I also don’t recommend this school. We tried to move twice but my wife was convinced to stay but we definitely should moved and when time came put our younger son in a different school. We won’t stay for a levels. Don't be fooled by the positive review here, that parent has posted it for a reason. I have contacts with a few parents in the school and can agree that they are unhappy so many new students are moving here and so are the children. There is much movement with the staff, very high turnover. Academics are very bad and all parents use outside tutors.

I’m ok to answer questions.

Thanks for honest review. Are there any schools you considered that are worth looking at?

Do you have any specific subjects that you are looking for? Eaton is not academic or creative, gcse grades is very low. Pastoral care is extremely bad and the new deputy who came in is very bad. The staff changes happen all the time. There’s been 2 head teachers since my son has been there and many other staff leave mid year.

My other son is year 7 at another school in a different part of London. We have such a bad experience at Eaton we would never send him there. We have such short time left now at Eaton which we are very thankful for.

Any idea what this school experience is like for girls? Given the small class sizes, do girls comprise at least half the year group?

There are many more boys at Eaton.

This is overall very accurate.

I do agree with this and many of the parent contacts I have also share this view. Everyone my wife has spoke to is very unhappy with the increase in numbers because the academics are already struggling and everyone is quite miserable.

FRLondon · 27/03/2024 15:01

@MellowRobin It is disingenuous to comment on someone else's opinion of the school if it differs from your own. This platform is for parents and people to express their opinions and I try to do that based on my own and my child's positive personal experiences. Making comments such as "all parents have tutors" is an unhelpful blanket approach. It is possibly better to suggest the "few" that you do have contact with do indeed have tutors, which I personally feel is something that should be celebrated to ensure the best education, and these pupils should then be excelling versus those that do not have tutors with the same teachers in place.
Your opinion matters and I am indeed very sorry to hear of your own experience with the school thus far.
I always recommend for parents to have a candid and upfront conversation with the management team of the school. Often, there is so much that parents do not see with regards to what happens on a daily basis inside a school, in every class, on every desk. It is important to feel part of the school, along with your child, and I believe this can be achieved. If not, you may wish to consider providing direct feedback of your personal experiences that have lead to the negativity.

All of year 11 have tutors. I don’t know about all the year 10 students where your son is. I have contact with only a few other parents in different years.

You may be happy and that is good but we can’t all be in the school carefully controlling our children’s experience.

MellowRobin · 27/03/2024 15:23

Also find it interesting that you’ve picked on my comment, as a fellow school parent and not others. That is disingenuous.

MellowRobin · 27/03/2024 15:29

What makes you think me and my wife haven’t discussed any issues with the management team? Not everyone shares your views on them. It’s been negative for us and others we know and we are glad to be leaving.

FRLondon · 27/03/2024 15:45

Thank you for your comments. I chose to respond to you as you stated "Don't be fooled by the positive review here, that parent has posted it for a reason" and I wished to clarify that I had no "reason" but have simply had a positive experience which I wanted to express.
I wish you and your children all the very best.

roses2 · 27/03/2024 16:21

Eaton Square school is private equity owned - private equity schools in general have profit at heart, not like the charity status ones and you will find a different vibe. I'm glad you went to visit it and hope you managed to find a school that suits your child.

ShaHiker · 27/03/2024 17:02

I had a child at Eaton prep then Eaton square school until last year. We moved to another school and have never been happier.

The best way to have a positive experience is begin in year 7 and work at the school in some capacity.

I am interested to hear any opinions on the sister school, London Park School, Clapham. My DC has been offered a place there. It is so new that there is little to go on. I am reaching out here to see whether you think the issues with Eaton Sq are particular to the school or with the Dukes group in general? It is our only private option. We have a good state option too. Thanks

SleepyHollowed84 · 02/04/2024 18:16

@FRLondon are you planning to keep your DS at Eaton Square for Sixth Form? As a parent you must have heard negative opinions from other parents - what is the general feeling amongst the parent body? Do you like the Head?

Minustendegrees · 03/04/2024 22:56

I would avoid a school without a track record. I speak from experience at another school with very little track record.

I know nothing of Eaton Square/LPS Mayfair but can say with experience that Dukes run some wonderful schools (certainly at prep level) so I don’t think this is a Dukes issue per se.

CrickityCrickets · 04/03/2025 22:18

How big is this school? The Mayfair one? How many classes per year are there and what are the class sizes like?

andrinaballerina · 02/11/2025 18:36

At the risk of commenting on a ghost thread, and slightly off topic, I would love to hear about any opinions of the outgoing head at LPS Mayfair, Dr Rainbow?
