Aqa review of marking, how long?

Ds has put in for a review of marking on two papers (two diff subjects). School suggested which papers.

Has anyone had a review back yet please? I'm just wondering how long it takes?

If you paid for 2 papers for the same subject to be re-marked, even if the grade goes up, unless the marks rise on both papers, you’d only get a refund from one paper.

Processing by school might take some time and be tied to refunds given by the Boards too. Worth following up if the money doesn’t arrive, but not until half term, I’d say.

We've just had AQA Eng Lit paper 2 back and it has gone up by 16 marks. Every mark has gone up (save for the two that were 3/3 anyway). One has gone up by 50%. The Head of English had said she couldn't comprehend how the script had got the original mark so that seems to be accurate. We're still waiting for paper 1.

Cubic · 27/09/2023 10:04

It was two different subjects, both went up. Papers were advised by the teachers.

@WaitingforThursday wow, 16 marks on one paper 😮. I had almost decided not to bother with literature, as I still haven’t heard from the school, but that has made me think maybe I should at least put in paper 1. Well done to you and your DC hope that you go up a grade or even 2.

We had a lit paper go up 22 on one paper

WaitingforThursday · 27/09/2023 11:37

I am really quite shocked that papers move so much. If the questions all have different markers doesn't that suggest that it's not just one rogue marker?

This is the second GCSE grade that has gone up for us and if these had been the grades on results day then it would have meant going to the first choice 6th form. Actually things have worked out fine in the current 6th form but it's incredible upsetting that these kinds of errors have such an impact on their lives. Then add to that that many families wouldn't have been able to put the money on the line for the review in the first place. I am really losing faith in the system.

@Cubic I’ve just checked and we haven’t yet had a refund for the paper we sent off that got upgraded. The school sent an email about 10 days ago to ask for bank details so I can only think it takes a while to get the refund from the exam board. That was OCR.

Sadly my DD paper has gone down 1mark when she needed it to go up 1 mark for the next grade boundary - she was predicted a G7 and has to accept a G5 now but luckily she got onto the college course she wanted even though she didn’t meet the “required” grades they published. I told her to channel that anger into nailing her A’Levels as the school were utter s**t at the end didn’t even finish the core syllabus massively dropped the ball on her cohort. I’m just hoping she hasn’t missed too much core content to do it at Alevel.

WaitingforThursday · 28/09/2023 09:45

Really sorry to hear that Wishingitcolder

Sadtimes1 · 28/09/2023 09:51

@Wishingitcolder sorry to hear that, our kids have been really messed up this year with the raising of boundaries. A levels will be far more important for the next stage and our kids have already shown great resilience. Good luck to your DD.

We have given up on English Lit as didn’t hear from the school in time for the deadline. DS decided to just move on, still waiting for the Biology review 🤞.

Wishingitcolder · 28/09/2023 13:08

It was biology AQA that we got back so I hope your DS does better. I had gone through the paper in detail with DD before requested it and thought we’d found 5 possible marks hence why we put it in really didn’t expect it to go down! One whole 17mins question she got zero on!

Sadtimes1 · 29/09/2023 09:16

We’ve just had the biology paper back, it went up 5 marks on the one paper we chose to review. So DS is pleased to have gone up a grade. Only one mark was needed.
DS didn’t go for the English Lit review even though we eventually heard from the school to get paper 1 reviewed 🤷🏼‍♀️.
The marking this year does seem particularly bad. Good luck to anyone still waiting.

Congratulations to your DS sadtimes1!

Schools don't pay the money instantly in the same way parents do to schools. The school will be invoiced for entries/post results services etc and any ones they don't need to be charged for due to a change in grade won't be on the invoice.

Sadtimes1 · 29/09/2023 23:40

@DitheringBlidiot thank you. Does that mean that the refund from the school should happen fairly quickly? I don’t want to chase it unless there is reason to, it has been almost 2 weeks (10 working days today).

WombatChocolate · 30/09/2023 08:14

I’d actually wait until half term. They might not get the money back from AQA for several weeks and their own processing timescales might not be speedy. 10 working days isn’t long at all.

Sadtimes1 · 30/09/2023 11:58

@WombatChocolate thank you. I am waiting for 2 refunds now so will wait until after half term.
