School offers day 2023

So.... secondary school offer day is almost upon us. How is everyone dealing with the wait?

My DD is thinking about it far more than I would have hoped, is counting down the days and asking everyday if they will come out early. She's angry at the council that they can't sort the whole process out in a week. Apparently it's "not that hard to sort it out"🤔 I have tried to explain the process and that it's not just her it's every other child in the district (and neighbouring district as we've applied for schools there too), but she's just being impatient to know.

I'm thinking about it...but I thought I'd be worse with her been dc2 and wanting her to go to the same school as dc1. (No sibling priority at that school) but she's got a good chance of it so trying not to stress.

So how about everyone else?

We got first choice. Unfortunately DS has changed his mind in the last week and wanted second choice…. Which is what all his friends got. I suspect he’s going to be a bit grumpy after school 🙈

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/03/2023 07:52

Ugh i can log into eadmissions but it's just showing my admission, not anywhere I can see outcomes. Am I missing something or do I just need to wait for an email.

London won't appear until 5pm, best to just ignore it until then. They never go early.

Weirdly, it works for us from phones with wifi turned off i.e 4/5G connection, but not from regular internet connection. No updates though lol. Tower Hamlets website says “late afternoon or evening”

My email was in my spam folder. The only other emails which get sent there are French campsite emails.

If you're London it won't be out till 5pm on the website. If elsewhere check your LA website for time of release- it may not have been released yet

You maybe able to go on the waiting list for second choice. Speak to admissions later in the week. However he will make friends and it may be the making of him.

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa curious. But how does being offered a place mid September work? Won't you have already started and been kitted out at the school you've been given because you wouldn't have been offered the place by the time you start? Or is that more for if you declined what you were offered so were "school-less".

We got our place the day term started last year - two kids didn't turn up. We had both uniforms and one school started a day earlier which was the one we wanted. We started the proper full day of term. (No movement after that but it has moved from 44 for only 70 grammar style spaces). The rest of the year - siblings and local kids not moving. You can't really tell.

Thanks @puzzledbubbles eberytime I log in I get an unable to retrieve message, is that because there’s too many people trying to access it? Anyone else managed to get their results from Cheshire?
The email came through at 00:48

I'm Cheshire West and got my email at 00:25. This had a link to download a letter which confirms which preference has been allocated and next steps.
Portal wasn't clear for me whereas letter spells it out.

Oh blimey I’m really worried now- can’t get on to eadmissions at all, just tried 5g as well thanks for the tip but didn’t work! I can just see everyone else getting the news at 5pm and me still pressing refresh and trying to get eadmission to load up!!! Must. Calm. Down.

Has anyone got results for Leicestershire yet? Been logging onto the parent portal since 5am but nothing and no email. They said results would be shortly after midnight! Anyone else had any luck? I'm stressing out here!

No, we haven’t got them yet either. Emails aren’t going out until later but results were supposed to be online after midnight like you said but it seems they’ve had issues.

Email received. Didn't get our first choice catchment school. Got our second choice. Which I'm not overly happy with so we're going to try waiting list first. Just relieved we didn't get the dead beat school which is down the road from our house as I've been having cold sweats about that for weeks.

Ah that is disappointing. But if lots of your children are in the same boat then maybe choice no. 2 will become better than choice no. 1 iyswim.

misslooloo · 01/03/2023 08:22

Like thousands of others this morning, my daughter didn’t get her first choice high school place, which is an oversubscribed local school. She is understandably devastated.

We are going to appeal and I would love to hear from other people who have successfully appealed.

We live equidistant from both schools, although the one she didn’t get into is easier to reach by public transport.

She wants to study German at GCSE and this particular school doesn’t offer that option.

Any tips please?!

PanelChair · 01/03/2023 08:42

Misslooloo - I suggest that you (and anyone else thinking about appealing) start your own thread, setting out why you want to appeal. The appeal gurus will then make suggestions. If we have multiple conversations about different potential appeals on this thread, it’s likely to become a confusing muddle.

AliceMcK · 01/03/2023 08:45

YES! Email in and first choice, I can finally try and get an hours sleep now!

UsernameOfMine · 01/03/2023 08:52

Still no official email....dd has gone from excited getting offered a place (its on the online portal) to..."it's only an offer we need to accept it, if we don't accept it I can't go" worrying.
Sooner we get the email with info on how to accept the better for us all 😆

Good luck to those still waiting, and I don't know much about appeals but from what I gather you have a make a case for the school you want not why you don't want the school given.

Unfortunately didn't get any of our choices but its what we expected. Got our nearest school which has been requires improvement for at least the last 10 years. Waiting lists and appeals time now.

Does it not say on the portal that you don't need to accept? It does on ours.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 01/03/2023 06:47

Anyone else in Herts? Portal appears to have collapsed under the strain, and DH (who submitted the application) says the LA said they won't update the website until the emails have gone out, and they won't be sent until this afternoon. 😬

No point in checking the Herts portal - it won't be updated until after the emails are sent out. We got DS's email last year at around 1.30 and DD's a couple of years before at 2.45 so you can relax for a few hrs.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/03/2023 09:01

Ours has click buttons to send a response, then you choose accept or decline within the portal

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 01/03/2023 09:02

Thank you @Hersetta427! I shall try to relax. Confused

Yes - I thought that and started one. Thanks!
