All exams and interviews done, such a relief!!

Congrats and good luck!

I'm still prepping my DD immensely for her interview this weekend!

Parkrun4 · 24/01/2023 18:48

Has anyone here applied to Streatham and Clapham High or has DD already there. Instead to know a bit more about school.

Anno7 · 24/01/2023 18:55

Anyone know when SHS sends offers? Someone said they’re earlier than others?
Also any idea what the LEH info sessions are tomorrow and Thursday? Not sure what info they can give at this point?

Yes indeed! 2/3 of 960 > 500 that is why I am saying the staf member who mentioned 500 must have gotten their numbers wrong.

We have applied and have friends work DDs there. Seems quite a nice and balanced school very much on the up academically. Setting was nicer than we expected. The current HM is leaving, I think, which is a pity as he was rather inspirational.

"With" rather than "work".

The SCHS Head has left and they have an acting head currently, but I understand that the process of appointing the new head is pretty much complete - hopefully they’ll announce the successful candidate soon.

PreplexJ · 24/01/2023 20:10

anyone has news on who will be the new HM for SHHS and Habs?

PreplexJ · 24/01/2023 20:44

QuiteAJourney · 24/01/2023 12:33

The HM did mention those kind of examples at the open day we attended - we were also 'treated' to a DJ-ing set by one of the students and mention of one of the children excelling at the Maths Olympiads.

I think that most London schools of that calibre have similar examples (maybe in different disciplines) that they can roll out - SHS is well known for Olympic potentials, Harrodian usually has quite a few child actors / signed musicians... Not to mention other more 'academically selective' (sorry, I do not like the term, but useful as a shorthand). What I find interesting if that Emanuel seems to be one, out of the schools we visited (we ended up viewing 10) keener to make a point of it.

To be honest, it leaves me quite cold ...my DD does not fall in that category and, ultimately, I am more interested in what the school can do for her rather than whether there is scope for prodigies (some of which had focused on their passion / hobby / talent well before joining Emanuel) to study in Emanuel.

I know some of the Y5 or Y6 boys in St Paul through 7/8+ are doing Maths Olympiads probably some parents want to stay ahead to the smart boys entry via the 11+ route.

The new head of SCHS will be the ex deputy head of St Mary’s Ascot- Ms Cathy Elliot

I had not seen it announced - thanks for flagging.
On first look it seems quite a change from Dr Sachania.

It’s a bit weird, it’s in their December email newsletter but it’s not anywhere on their website. They don’t have much social media presence so
hard to track down announcements, etc.

Daydreamscometrue · 25/01/2023 06:31

Anyone heard anything at all from Ibstock since their newsletter in December?

FriendlyMom · 25/01/2023 07:10

Does anyone remember when G&L post their results - they updated the info for entry 2024 on their website and I can't seem to be able to find an email with the information. Do they post results on Feb 10?
How about Putney - they say "mid-February" - what does that mean?

readingcat · 25/01/2023 07:14

There’s a current thread on SCHS on NappyValleyNet (link below). In addition to the views mentioned there (which vary), I have heard generally positive feedback on the school from a couple of parents I know with kids there. Agree that it’s odd not to have announced the new Head on the school website.

Nothing at all. From what I have heard very much in line with what they have done in previous years.

G&L is Feb 10th. Putney, I suspect Feb 10th or slightly early. They won't confirm exact date, but said early mid Feb. And to me that sounds like Feb 10th. But last year they did it on the Monday, so it could be as early as Feb 6th.

FriendlyMom · 25/01/2023 08:58

@SamPoodle123 thank you! x
A long wait ahead...

Redapples81 · 25/01/2023 09:09

Anyone else’s DC have older sibling (s) that have been through the process and the current DC waiting for the results feels the pressure of the success of the older one? Or just assumes they will get the same?

I know a boy with a brother at St Paul’s - he is desperate to get an offer. He told my dd she is lucky she doesn’t have an older sibling to try to match. But I am sure it depends on the child and family dynamics

Ilikelists · 25/01/2023 09:13

If your dd didn’t get an interview at leh (but did at other selectives) do you think they will share results?

momomamiko · 25/01/2023 09:36

Congrats to all DC and parents who are done with the process - must be a relief!

We have 3 more to go, last being on Feb 10th itself. I find it so mean that they had to choose results day to hold their assessments and it is a full day, too! Maybe good to distract and keep me from refreshing emails every 5 seconds but in any case not much left now😅
