Brit School application- yr10

Hi all, my son has applied for the Film and Media strand for Yr 10 this year. Just wondering if anyone else’s kids have done the same? We had an email acknowledgment, but heard nothing since regarding an interview or assessment.

Sorry to hear that, @Sadie2511. There are so many different pathways to success so l’m sure your DD will shine wherever she goes. I’ve heard that it’s definitely worth applying at 16 if you aren’t successful first time as they appreciate kids who persevere. Sending you both a hug. 🤗 We still haven’t heard- my DS has applied for film and media yr10.

@Sadie2511 sorry to hear - have they indicated the ranking on the reserve list? My DD is on a Brit school WhatsApp group and I hear there were a lot of disappointed kids today :-( I can’t think what my DD will go through if she does not get in, all her hopes are pinned to this! Bring on next week!

My DD only got reserve list .... loads of tears :-(

So sorry to hear that @Sterou. It’s so hard for them and horrible for us to watch too. I’m sure she’ll do well in the future- it sounds like she has a great passion for performing so she’s already half way there. Big hug to you both. We still haven’t heard anything....

So sorry @Sterou 😔 Reserve list is such a great achievement though - the Admissions team told me that getting on the reserve list is basically a yes, they just don’t have enough spaces for everyone, so your DD should be immensely proud of herself. However it doesn’t take away from the disappointment I know.

My DD is distraught -) I am not convinced there will be any movement on the reserve list. Does anyone know how many children they put on it? And what is the no of drop out by September ?! Trying to cheer her up but not getting through :-(

@Sterou Brit wouldn’t tell me how many go on the reserve list or ranking but you could try asking too. They did say some years they call none of the reserves & others they’ve called them all so completely unpredictable. It would be nice to at least know how many others are on the reserve list - I think the historic thread on here mentioned only 3 or 4

Happy to say that my DS was offered a place today on the film and media strand. We’re really proud of him. Thanks so much for all your updates and support on this thread and keeping my fingers crossed for some movement on the reserve lists x

Just called to establish how many kids are on the reserve list... 19 incl. 3 students out-catchment.
That reads to me = very little chance!

Hi there, are the numbers you were given for all strands, or just MT? My daughter is also on the reserve list.

Musical theatre

@sterou and @sadie2511 - your dcs did so well to get to reserve list. My dc is interested in music or musical theatre application for next year - can you tell me what level your kids are in their chosen fields/ what type of experiences they have had. I am trying to gauge if we are in with a chance of interview/ audition. Also trying to manage expectations. Thank you.

@Lockdowndramaqueen - send me a PM.. I think my DD is very talented and backs it up with west end performances but who knows what they are looking for!?

@Lockdowndramaqueen we know 4 kids starting this September- 2 on the musical theatre, 1 on the acting and 1 on the dance strand. My DD also knows 2 kids in yr 10 currently. All these kids have professional west end and/or film/tv credits and attend training after school and at weekends. This year they auditioned through zoom and self tapes which was obviously a new way of working. My only reservation about Brit is they don't allow their students to do any professional film/theatre work whilst there ( however I know certain kids that do )

@Lockdowndramaqueen- if you’re local, l highly recommend the Saturday Brit kids classes at the school. They’re a brilliant grounding for any kid that wants to apply. Wishing you the best of luck 🤞

@Rapunzel88 - good advice! In hindsight, we should have considered doing that - DD is part of a local weekend “triple threat” performing art school, that is amazing .. but being @brit sure would have helped! By the way DD recovered for being on the reserve list (as teens do).. until next time

Hi @Sterou @nancypineapple @Rapunzel88 thank you for getting back to me. Wow, your kids sound very talented. I know it’s a long shot but I think we will go for it. I am veering towards music as dc’s dance experience is minimal.
