Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

So sorry to hear you guys haven't been successful @mootime and @CatfordKitten. I'm sure your boys will get great schools they are happy in, but it doesn't make it any more disappointing now.

Hi @CatfordKitten - sorry to hear that.

Hope it was good news @AveEldon.

Feeling nervous now as we haven't received anything yet...eurgh wish they could magically send them all out at the same time...!

AveEldon · 14/01/2021 12:23

@JustJuice187 I think they have sent the "no" emails first

You may also be able to login on the Trinity online application website and see if there is anything there

JustJuice187 · 14/01/2021 12:26

Ok, thanks.

JustJuice187 · 14/01/2021 12:31

Just came through - relief!

GrammarHopeful · 14/01/2021 12:33

Just got ours through. DS will have his interview on Saturday, so that makes it two out of three for what we call our "ISEB trio".

Sorry to hear about others who weren't selected. I hope other schools will come through for you and your DSes.

JustJuice187 · 14/01/2021 12:40

Well done to your DS @GrammarHopeful - it sounds like our boys are doing similar schools, although we just did two.

Our interview is also on Saturday morning

GrammarHopeful · 14/01/2021 12:58

Thanks, @JustJuice187. I wasn't sure what to expect after KCS rejection earlier in the week, but am content with the outcome now. Best of luck to your DS on Saturday!

SD1000 · 14/01/2021 13:28

We got ours this morning, didn't get through to interview for Trinity. Still waiting to hear from Whitgift, the longer we wait the more unlikely it seems. Anyone else still waiting to hear from Whitgift?

SD1000 · 14/01/2021 13:29

Congratulations to those that have interviews and good luck!

2morasmum · 14/01/2021 14:02

@SD1000 Don't loose hope! we got the email today and were looking into spots available between 22 and 25 Jan.

notabirthday · 14/01/2021 15:31

Yay, so pleased as ds1 has got through to interview stage at Trinity! He did say the exam was easier than the Sutton SET and given he got through to the slightly higher level for WCGS, was hoping he'd get Trinity as our back up (missed out on the 2nd stage SET, there was a big gap in score between his maths and English on the SGS weightings which suggests he bombed the maths).

So relieved to have interview for trinity day after fiasco with cancellation of Olaves part2.
I’ve been on tenterhooks all week.
Is everyone’s 15 minutes - ours is sat lunchtime (not with headmaster) any idea if you would know if they were considering academic scholarship?
Still waiting to hear what will happen with sports assessments.
What a difficult year for all these children....
Good luck all

Snezhka13 · 15/01/2021 10:50

Had the same question about scholarship.. How do you find out?

JustJuice187 · 15/01/2021 11:32

@Bexbrom - traditionally Saturday interviews have not been for academic scholarship - that might be different now though.

In past years you got to have a chat with Mr. K while DS gets interviewed, so it is a slightly more personalised service.

Having said that you still got to meet all the senior staff at Saturday interviews usually - obviously that's not going to happen this year....

JustJuice187 · 15/01/2021 11:33

I should add that doesn't mean your DS hasn't done well. They absolutely have, but IME the candidates getting the academic now at T are getting over 90%.

DS2 got over 80% in both last year, and it wasn't enough...

notabirthday · 15/01/2021 12:40

Do Trinity do their interviews in rank order or something does anyone know? We've had the pass email but nothing further with an interview date. Hoping we might have a chance for a bit of an academic scholarship to ease the pain esp as we have a boy a year younger too!

EnolanotAlone · 15/01/2021 13:19

We have just received an interview to select a time on Monday. From those lucky enough to have been through the process, how have W interviews been undertaken, is there any difference between selecting a certain interviewer? Has anyone received feedback in the interviews regarding academic / sports scholarships?

LillyD · 15/01/2021 14:00

Hi @notabirthday. We are in the same position re Trinity. I suspect it means the interviews are in rank order but maybe I am wrong!

JustJuice187 · 15/01/2021 14:14

@notabirthday - sorry I have no idea about rank order. Usually weekday interview means potential scholar. No idea about not getting a date.

Our email just said he did very well, but lots of boys applied so interview doesn't mean he's got a place, which is fair enough. I don't think the schools realise how much we dissect these emails ;))

GrammarHopeful · 15/01/2021 15:28

@JustJuice187, it was more than that: "Well enough" in the first sentence, and well "very well" in the other! Grin

We'll find out soon enough, I suppose...

Bexbrom · 15/01/2021 15:53

Thanks JustJuice187 - I had read that re previous years - but I understands no parents going in this year so was trying to dissect(!) what a weekend interview might mean this year.
Just had a letter re sports scholarship on line assessment though - but no idea how. My husband wonders if we are going to have to hold the phone whilst they do a beep test or something!!

1980sMum · 15/01/2021 16:50

I'm just curious as to whether many schools (indies) would mention in the interview invitation whether their DC is considered for an academic scholarship? I know a friend's DD was invited 'for an academic scholarship interview' (this was not Trinity/Whitgift) - apparently the top 20% performers received this whereas the rest received just a general interview invite.

Longingfornormality · 15/01/2021 17:00

Any idea what format the Trinity English and Maths 11+ interview questions might take? I can’t see how they would do this properly in a 15 minute interview. Would it be either English or Maths questions? Or both?

AveEldon · 15/01/2021 17:11

@Longingfornormality I think it will be one or the other - usually whichever was weaker in the exam
