Sandy I think that depends on whether or not its likely to lead to a traffic pile up......Grin

sandybayley · 05/06/2018 13:46

@BlueBelle123 - I think it almost certainly would!

KittiesInsane · 05/06/2018 13:49

Thanks, mmzz! I'm more at home with maths and physics myself -- she must be a throwback.

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 13:52

Mmzz you DS and mine are most definitely related!! Though mine has less of the brains and more if the obtuseness.

mmzz · 05/06/2018 14:02

Oratory1 I think we'll see when the results come out, but I wouldn't assume yet, as I think you could be pleasantly surprised.
DS has a good memory and is good at maths, but, as to the rest, i really cannot see how the school made their predictions (unless it was based on CAT tests back in year 7??)
Surely they wouldn't do that, would they?

Another igcse Edexcel Eng Lang
Penguin/His for Hawk

DS used his geography knowledge on global warming and climate change! In OCR Geography A this afternoon.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 05/06/2018 14:22

mmzz Targets are based on KS2 SATS. Predictions? Did he do Yellis in Y10?

Resourcesful, Reservoir!

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 14:24

Ha I seem to think Geography knowledge has come in handy a couple of times in other subjects ! Hope this afternoon goes well.

Sostenueto · 05/06/2018 14:41

How long is geography exam?

Stickerrocks · 05/06/2018 14:43

It's just finished here. 1hr 45m.

Stickerrocks · 05/06/2018 14:44

"I think it went quite well" says DD.

mmzz · 05/06/2018 14:48

EllenJanethickerknickers I've never heard of Yellis. What is that?

OP posts:
EllenJanethickerknickers · 05/06/2018 14:52

Y10 version of MIDYAS. My previous school used it to help with predictions. They used that together with topic tests, end of year exams and mocks as well as teachers' experienced estimates to make predictions.

mmzz · 05/06/2018 14:59

I'd love to know how DS's school has come up with his predictions.

Having briefly attempted to extract a little more detail from dc I was met with "I wrote some words"

LooseAtTheSeams · 05/06/2018 15:07

puppy DS2 is exactly like that and everything in his life is 'fine' even if it isn't! Luckily, he's only Y8!

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 15:08

Well that's something at least - DS has been known to not write any words ! (but thankfully not in these GCSEs so far !)

EllenJanethickerknickers · 05/06/2018 15:14

DS3's predictions are generally a fair bit below his target grades, which seem hugely inflated, all 8s apart from English x2 which are 7s and Chinese which is a B.There is no way on Earth he'll get those. His predictions are closer but still seem a bit optimistic.

slinkyme · 05/06/2018 15:15

Another one here igcse English edexcel. Not a good morning. DD is really very good at English and thought it would al go well. But she came back not happy. As she got into the car said that she wrote so much for the first few parts by the time she got to transactional bit she only had 10 Mins left. That was half the points. 😫. She said she managed to get everything down that she would have wanted to but still how much justice can you do to a question in 10 Mins that you should have spent 45 Mins on. 😩

I think my reaction was all it took and then she didn't want to talk about it. I stupidly kept probing - desperately hoping that it was a sub part of a later section. Should have just left it alone. Resulted in tears and a meltdown. Have worked hard to cheer her up and took her out for lunch. But all talk
About the English exam is banned.

I am only putting together pieces of what was covered through what others have posted. Not a good start to the week.

puppywithattitude · 05/06/2018 15:16

oratory your ability to find the positivity in my despair has made me laugh, so thank you Grin

puppywithattitude · 05/06/2018 15:17

Oh slinky, hopefully it won't be that bad.
Chin up, she could pull it together on Friday.

mmzz · 05/06/2018 15:18

DS's targets and predictions are mostly the same thing. I think there are 2 subjects where he is predicted an 8 versus a 9 target or a 7 versus an 8. I just can't see it for English and I'm struggling to see how the school can defend it with history and RE too.

The only thing I can think of is he got a 5 in English for the SATS, but this is a lot more difficult than those!

Anyway, the predictions are irrelevant now. No one will remember them when the results come out in August.

OP posts:
mmzz · 05/06/2018 15:20

Look away if you don't want to know how long until results day. I just worked it out:

10 weeks and 2 days

puppywithattitude · 05/06/2018 15:24

Also slinky, if your dd is good at English, that's half the battle.
My dc struggles with comprehension, cannot read between the lines and never 'gets' stuff.
Creatively, used lovely description but there's never a point to the piece.

slinkyme · 05/06/2018 15:25

Mmzz because I am sad and a bit too involved I have one of those countdown apps with the 2 dates when she will get her results.😕
