Thanks puppy I think this is just one of those we just have to let go and say what will Be will be. This was the only paper as they chose the coursework component. English now done forever.

hmcAsWas · 05/06/2018 15:28

10 weeks, that's a heck of a long time!

Come on everyone - stop probing the detail about their exams. If they try and bring it up - make none committal noises of encouragement and change the subject. It will be much better for your blood pressure wink

Oratory - it sounds like your ds gave it a good go - well done to him smile

hmcAsWas · 05/06/2018 15:28

or even Wink

slinkyme · 05/06/2018 15:29

HMc you are very right - I need to give myself a good talking to.

Sostenueto · 05/06/2018 15:33

Geography went well with just about time to briefly check answers.(wipes sweat off brow)Smile hope all others went well too all Stars.

puppywithattitude · 05/06/2018 15:37

Ah well, she's no doubt aced her coursework, anyway what will be will be as you say.
Hmc is right about probing.

Sostenueto · 05/06/2018 15:39

Predictions for grades are done in dgds school combining sat results with the Fischer family index for top 20% of schools in country for progress. Dgd has exceeded both of those predictions with her rate of progress. FFG said dgd would be a 7.4 by end of year 11 she was that at end if year 9.

Sostenueto · 05/06/2018 15:40

Expected to get 8/9 in real math exam.

ReservoirDogs · 05/06/2018 15:50

Geography OCR A was good apparently

RosieLig · 05/06/2018 15:53

Still not heard here. English Lang and geography. I’m worried about language as he hugely struggles with the amount of reading/comprehension in the time given. Just hope he remembered his glasses as he forgot them in history! Hmm

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 16:00

thanks hmc

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 16:02

That's great Sost - there are one of two results on here that we are all routing for including your DGD's Geography

LooseAtTheSeams · 05/06/2018 16:07

Agree with hmc - it's not worth probing about exam answers, can only lead to stress on both sides and can't change them now.
Won't know until later what DS thought but glad to know geography went well for Sostenueto dgd!
Rest of week isn't too bad for DS, music tomorrow, maths 2 on Thursday and final English on Friday.

brainmelt · 05/06/2018 16:31

Then I make the classic mistake of letting him tell me more
Hmmm mmzz ...eleven threads and we still haven't learnt Grin?
They're saying the future of the work place is for those who can use lateral thinking. The story is unexpected for the character. He has reinvented the meaning of unexpected ending. F* what the examiner says, he has a bright future.
sost I love your bench coz it reminds me of home.

goodbyestranger · 05/06/2018 16:33

DD says English was good but as for probing about individual answers - never! It takes me a blink to revert back to day to day trivia!

mmzz · 05/06/2018 16:45

DS back home from aqa Geography 2. Said it went ok. Was able to answer everything, even if some answers were saying something that sounds sensible rather than the definitive answer.
DS, that's great. You should stop right there! I don't need to hear any more.

I feel much better not knowing the detail. Only 8 papers left but, I'm learning the lesson from now on!

Ds happy with geography and offered a surprising amount of detail about the quotations with no probing. English he said the extract was 'a goldmine' (ie plenty of things to say). he wrote about the old man, but can't remember anything he wrote Grin

I thought this was an interesting post on Ofqual about mainly Eng Lit issues :

Posted on 25 May 2018

How are papers graded/standardised in, say GCSE English Lit if some students study certain texts and their choice of question/s are believed to be easier/harder than the question/s others had to answer? Making particular reference to the AQA English Lit paper taken today where one question on poetry was taken directly from the sample paper published a few years ago - many teachers would have analysed this sample question extensively with their students already.

We are aware that a question in AQA's English literature exam paper was very similar to one in an earlier specimen paper. This is unusual and inappropriate. We will closely monitor AQA’s plans for awarding this qualification; we will want to be sure that all students are treated as fairly as possible, whichever option they have taken.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 05/06/2018 17:04

Well AQA English Language has caused a bit of a stir on twitter.

DS said he could here other students stifling giggles when reading through the extract.

He could understand what answers AQA were aiming for but when he read about ex teacher Mr Fishers "strange feeling that activated a strong unused muscle in his body" when reading a students written work DS was a bit Shock

KittiesInsane · 05/06/2018 17:06

That's a bit worrying, Teenmum, as it suggests they'll be moderating downwards for any student who answered the Ozymandias question. Oh well.

Teenmum60 · 05/06/2018 17:15

KittiesInsane I'm just wondered how they possibly moderate it ...Its unfair from both points of view because they would be penalizing the DC's who would have scored high on the easier question had it not been a specimen question...I guess the only thing they could possibly do is disregard the marks for that question no matter what the source poem was (not sure how marks it was worth).

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 17:19

Teen These things must be checked over and over again though. How could someone not notice unless it was deliberate.

Cherryburn · 05/06/2018 17:28

I'm not sure how it would usually be done but could they grade the two questions completely separately, i.e. if the Oxymandias question has scored much higher marks overall than Singh Song(?) they apply different boundaries to them IYSWIM?

Parky04 · 05/06/2018 17:31

Have joined this thread very late! My DS took his 13th and 14th exam today and surprise surprise they went alright as did the previous 12! It's like getting blood from a stone!

RosieLig · 05/06/2018 17:32

Remember the OCR Romeo and Juliet Montague/Capulet error last year!!!
