This thread does move fast! I'm just jumping back on and it's nearing completion.

Sostenueto - that's good news about English Language. Sounds like an interesting subject for them to talk about too.

My DS doesn't really seem to have done much revision this week, other than some sessions at school. He's also been quite grumpy, so I'm just leaving him alone.

Feels like we're in the home straight now. I'm going to try and encourage him to have one last big push this weekend, particularly in the sciences.

Hadenoughtoday · 08/06/2018 11:20

English language paper 2 just started on the sofa - it's a long exam 2hrs plus extra time and rest breaks - then 3 days bed rest til last one - I'm so proud of my DD for even attempting them this year.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 11:22

@Hadenoughtoday - good luck to your DD

Oratory1 · 08/06/2018 11:25

Had enough - sending you both good wishes and energy vibes

PeggySchuylar · 08/06/2018 11:26

DD3 staring at a Russian History past paper saying

“I’m staring into the pits of despair.”

Exam at 1 pm. She knows loads “but not as much as Germany last year.”

DD2 had job interview this morning. She forgot to take CV and found it hard to recover Sad

Of course I feel bad I didn’t remind her about cv last night.

When I took DS in this morning he said he was the most nervous he has been, I was Oh are you really worried about the English exam no he said its because I'm giving my English teacher her present.........

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 11:31

Hadenoughtoday just realised what you've said very best wishes to your DD, what some DC are going through as well as doing their GCSEs is quite humbling.

goodbyestranger · 08/06/2018 11:32

Another correction - I meant students often kicked against doing things not on the spec.

By the time I get back I'm expecting to find at least a couple of hundred posts on a new thread....

kitnkaboodle · 08/06/2018 11:34

Hi all
Long long-time lurked here. According to twitter, AQA English texts this morning were on surfing n sport. My totally non-sporty DS desperately needs a 6. Bit apprehensive ... Sad

kitnkaboodle · 08/06/2018 11:35

lurker not lurked .. good job it wasnt me sitting the exam ...

Devilishpyjamas · 08/06/2018 11:45

The extracts were ‘wank’ but he seems happy enough with the writing.

I’m away most of next week (eldest son in hospital other side of country), but he seems to be fairly chilled about the whole experience.

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/06/2018 11:45

Will try and catch up when I get home from work! I'm just relieved all my students turned up for paper 2!
I like the idea of the St James pigeon duo, Jugglingmummy!

New thread name suggestions? Anyone?

GCSEs 2018 (12) [Gin], (Gin),(Gin)?

GCSEs 2018 (12) The last mile.....?
Probably not as there will be three more threads before the end!

Yeah depends on the child Soursprout. Ds2 - current GCSE-er is a performer, so pretty much strolling through theses without any stress. I’m sure he’ll do fine, although he didn’t start to do any work that wasn’t dragged from him until year 11. He’s at a fairly pressurised grammar (they don’t really do much in the way of pastoral care imo) but has always shrugged it off.

Ds3 is much more conscientious, more academic in the way he analyses things, but also far more anxious about exams. I’m pleased he isn’t at the grammar - he’ll be quite capable of winding himself up into a state about exams - better than he is at a school that will pay attention to that.

GCSEs 2018 (12) Are we nearly there yet?

Morning all, name changed. I was DoNotBringLulu.

I just logged on Shock 916 posts! I like for next name GCSEs 2018 (12) the last mile - in it to win it, nearly there, or something like that.

Best wishes to all of our dc. My ds had a melt down last night Sad and wouldn't talk to me about what was bothering him. After today, 8 more exams left. Worked out it is the stress and teenage hormones. He's gone in today rather subdued and looks like the world is on his shoulders.

It would be brilliant if anybody could advise me - ds has asked for a punch bag, and I have no idea what to get. I've just been into Sports Direct and was advised to look online. Does anybody have any experience of buying punch bags, and if so what can you recommend? I've put a post on Sport area of Mumsnet.Thanks.

kit morning and welcome! My ds is also non-sporty, doing AQA. Let's hope for the best, he made up a load of stuff for German speaking I hope he can be creative here .... let's hope for the best.

mmzz · 08/06/2018 12:28

Gettingtrimmer he's being bullied or has just seen the girl he likes go out with someone who is very muscly.

DS texted - got timings wrong and not enough time to do enough on the 40 marker!

He was convinced he would fail even before the exam , hes completely despondent now.

Got to pick him up as he as 3 sciences, food tech, Resistant materials and maths next week.

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 12:36

juggling biology,geography/either maths/chemistry depending on GCSE and psychology A levels for dgd. Question 2 was weird something about comparisons on way surfboards were described in each extract but don't take my word for it! Getting info from dgd after an exam is worse than pulling teeth!

mmzz · 08/06/2018 12:36

Eve I am so sorry. Its probably not as bad as he thinks, but that won't help him until August.

OP posts:
mmzz · 08/06/2018 12:37

My last words to DS this morning were please, text, call or email me to let me know how the exam went this morning. He hasn't. So, I'm wondering was it awful? Has he forgotten? Is he just busy?

I don't do well with not knowing!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 08/06/2018 12:37

mmzz anything's possible....I hope he is in a better mood this evening. I hope he is not being bullied and if someone's upset him it will blow over. Is your ds OK?

Reservoir Sorry if I've not commented I am not too good at keeping up with the thread and so many posts I tend to skim read them and I have a dreadful memory! I started the first thread in August about a hair brained idea of actually sitting last year's English Literature myself as I was spooked about hearing how difficult the exams would be! then I would know how difficult it would be for myself. Then it was nice to see the threads carried on.

Sticker Flowers best wishes
