He complained of tingling down his right hand side yesterday but is face dropped this morning. Thank you everyone for all the good wishes. He says dd seemed fine this morning and she is a level headed girl but she also has aspergers and she doesn't always show when she is stressed so I'm hoping this doesn't affect her too much.

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2018 13:26

Alexander Thank goodness everyone reacted so quickly. I know that you are going to worry about DH, DD & DS, but you need to take care of yourself as well. Please feel free to vent here if the pressure starts to build. We're all looking out for you & your family. xxx

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2018 13:32

Edexcel GCSE maths was described by DD as quite good. She managed to answer everything & check her answers, but it was harder than paper 1. Meanwhile DN had his 5th resit of maths & describing it F.....g S..t. promising!

TheThirdOfHerName · 07/06/2018 13:35

@AlexanderHamilton well done for staying so calm in such worrying circumstances.

It's good that your DH was able to get help so promptly.

Cherryburn · 07/06/2018 13:40

Oratory there was a solution to the last question because I've seen the workings on TSR. Don't understand it mind! DS says he doesn't think anyone got it at his school.

Oratory1 · 07/06/2018 13:57

Ok thanks I thought that would be the case

AlexanderHamilton · 07/06/2018 14:00

Dd has been on twitter explaining one of the questions to another tweeter. Hopefully thats a good sign!

ReservoirDogs · 07/06/2018 14:17

I invigilated the infamous Edexcel igcse 4MA1/2H this morning. The arithmetic series formula was on the formula page and the final question did tell them it was an arithmetic series question so some marks for method should be achievable even if just 1/5. The second last question was harder. It was definitely much more difficult than paper 1. A couple of super easy percentage ratio and probabilities questions at start and then bam.

AlexanderHamilton - my DH had a TIA in February- all fine now

AlexanderHamilton · 07/06/2018 14:19

He mentioned some rather big words trans icha something attack

AlexanderHamilton · 07/06/2018 14:22

It’s daft really. He’s underweight, never smoked has low blood pressure (too low) excercises but he does drink a glass of wine or gin 3-5 times per week.

It’s just awful timing for dd but thanks for the reassurance.

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2018 14:24

A TIA is a mini-stroke, Alex TIA so don't panic, it is just the official terminology.

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2018 14:27

I've posted the link to the official NHS description, which I hope reassures rather than panics you. They will have put your DH onto any necessary drugs and will be working out what to give him to minimise the risk of further attacks. Is he close enough to your parents to be able to have some TLC and ease the pressure on DD a little?

ReservoirDogs · 07/06/2018 14:28

Yep transient ischemic attack is ministroke.

DH initally told not to drive for 4 weeks but after cat scan and mri came back clear he was given clearance to drive (letter deom stroke clinic consultant) after 2 and a half.

We were in with the stroke nurse within 15 mins of attack as we live 5 mins from Addenbrookes. He got a call from the stroke the next day to go back for scans etc. Love our NHS x

Cblue · 07/06/2018 14:38

So DD has gone to bed. It was was awful apparently. It was the Edexcel igcse (1-9 paper)..... one with only 2 papers.

I assume that’s the one that everyone is saying was hard?

Let’s hope so because looking at her face she’s def relying on low grade boundaries Sad. She’s actually quite good at maths so goodness knows what is happening here

Suspect English won’t be looked at tonight after all.

Could do with going to bed myself but I am supposed to be working!

ReservoirDogs · 07/06/2018 14:42

Yes CBlue but head of maths at superselective indie has predicted 60/65% will be an 8 and she is usually very accurate

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2018 14:44

At least there is not a lot they can really do before English. Hopefully a snooze will do her good. I assume she doesn't have history tomorrow as well? DD did the Edexcel GCSE rather than the iGCSE. She has to stay behind for further maths after school - popular choice!

Oratory1 · 07/06/2018 14:48

That’s encouraging. Still no word from DS. Seems like it was tough but I’m guessing a few on this thread would have been quite glad if a tough paper to get their teeth into and show what they can do - as long as there were enough accessible questions for the others ! It’s a difficult balance but I think it makes more sense to have some really hard questions rather than have a grade boundary in the 90 s which just penalises those who may be brilliant mathematicians but just make the odd mistake

sonnyboo · 07/06/2018 14:48

That seems very low, Resevoir, but let's hope she's right! My dd also found it difficult.

Oratory1 · 07/06/2018 14:50

Just history tomorrow and I can’t see much revision getting done - sorry for those with English as well, best wishes to all with both. At least there s a weekend to recover and fewer exams next week I think

Oratory1 · 07/06/2018 14:52

Is she making any suggestions for a 9. SR seemed to suggest 85 after paper 1 but I’m guessing that may have dropped now

brainmelt · 07/06/2018 14:56

reservoir I think DS' Paper which was very hard was 4HR... what's the difference?

Oratory1 · 07/06/2018 14:59

I though 4HR was a reserve paper used if something goes wrong or may be is needed for different timezones - but I must be wrong if it was used today.

There are both 4H and 4HR available in the list of past papers

beenrumbled · 07/06/2018 15:02

DS said Edexel Maths paper 2 was good. He is now a bit worried about paper three, as he says the must be leaving the harder questions til then.

He is home early and revising for history. He has a maths revision session on Saturday morning.

ReservoirDogs · 07/06/2018 15:07

Is anyone mad enough to predict a 9? Grin She can have a good estimate at 8 as the year before last they had 177 A and one A for Maths and nothing lower! Last year not quite so good but only 20 below an A

Cherryburn · 07/06/2018 15:09

brainmelt I don't think it was 4HR. I think it's 4MA1/2H (which used to be 4H). It sounds from the 2 killer questions at the end that all the Edexcel Igcse DC have sat the same paper anyway.

Reservoir I do hope she's right re the grade boundary but that does seem low. A* was always 80% +/- on the old spec. Is the new one that much more difficult?
