Just arranged for DD to try on 6th form uniform on Friday after History exam...feels quite surreal....I can still clearly recall her very first uniform at lower school...

hmcAsWas · 06/06/2018 15:01

Thanks, got them Smile

sonnyboo · 06/06/2018 15:26

I've also just pm'd you Teenmum60. Thank you very much Smile

Best of luck to everyone for tomorrow's Maths exams!

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/06/2018 15:33

Business studies was ok, but it was getting good answers written in time that was the challenge. Seems to be a recurring issue for many of our teens.

Nettleskeins · 06/06/2018 15:39

Spanish dd found it hard today too Sost. She said half was incomprehensible. She's predicted a 6/7, so that does sound a bit inaccessible. Presumably you can get no marks for the listening and still get marks for the reading and speaking and still pass....[no idea of marking scheme but just interested] I find spoken words quite baffling, and sometimes if I tune out during an American film find I have no idea what they are saying, then suddenly it all comes back into focus. Must be worse with fast Spanish Shock

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/06/2018 15:39

DS seems pretty happy with music - particularly as he was able to identify a marimba in one piece! He's retired to his room with ice cream and chilli flavour crisps. Not a combination I'd be in a hurry to try...

cubscout · 06/06/2018 15:49

Feedback from ds (he's getting better!) about Edexcel Music - 'good exam, nice 12 marker and a lot of 'describe' questions. Some questions tricky but manageable.

mmzz · 06/06/2018 15:49

DN started crying in a GCSE-type exam recently. She started crying because someone else started crying and set her off.
I think there is sometimes a mass hysteria element.
If I'm going to be unkind, I might add that crying has also been a very successful strategy for her over the years for being saved from things that she doesn't want to do.
I'll await the retribution for getting said that about DN!

Trouble is nettleskins they talk so fast on the tapes dgd says and you have to do a bit of inference insomuch as Spanish meaning of words not always same in english iyswim. They may say complicated but mean difficult so getting exact translation hard, not a good example but I think you will get gist. Dgd predicted 8/9 but she said she may just scrape an 8 as listening her weakest. Think they just add up scores of all 4 parts then divide by 4 to get grade so 6667 get u a 6? Don't take word for though!

Sostenueto · 06/06/2018 15:59

Well mmzz excuse this morning from dgd I've got earache due to long soak in bath so may have difficulty in listening exam as I can't hear very well today. I said ' I suggested a long soak in bath, but not an attempt to drown yourself by putting head under water! And years of competitive swimming including when you swam without hat and never no earache or water in ear!Grin

ReservoirDogs · 06/06/2018 15:59

Edexcel igcse languages add all the scores achieved and divide by scores available to get an overall percentage.

Wonderwine · 06/06/2018 16:18

I've PM'd you @Teenmum60

Teenmum60 · 06/06/2018 16:19

Everyone who sent me there email should have the papers Grin

Wonderwine · 06/06/2018 16:23

Thank you!

calzone · 06/06/2018 16:25

Business was easy according to ds so I’ve smiled and waved and left him some M&Ms......

I think I feed people to make them feel better as I don’t know what else to do.

Just yesterday afternoon I met up with 2 friends who are having major life changing problems and I bought them tea and scones and a huge Galaxy bar.....because I don’t know what else to do!!!

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/06/2018 16:28

mmzz I hear you!
Sostenueto they get quite inventive when it comes to excuses, don't they?!
Lovely weather here - I'm doing early dinner for boys as they have music things on, and pottering in the garden now and then! I'm supposed to be marking essays...

CakeUpWall · 06/06/2018 16:36

Teenmum60 I’m joining the queue of folk sending you PMs. Really grateful to you for sharing the booty. Thanks

Stickerrocks · 06/06/2018 16:39

Calzone as a Cornish person, I think that scones & Galaxy may not be the solution to everything, but they provide a good, solid dose of yum.

Teenmum60 · 06/06/2018 16:57

Hopefully everyone that has sent a request should have the papers now...I'll leave requests open till 6pm ...but then it seems silly sending the papers through given exam is tomorrow.

adrinkofwater · 06/06/2018 17:12

DS had no exams to day. So after getting up late and chilling he has be doing history for Friday. Every so often I mention that a maths paper might be a good idea as its tomorrow. He has just told me that he finds it "insulting" that he should need to do one! Shock

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 06/06/2018 17:14

Calzone I totally agree , if in doubt a chocolate bar helps.

My DD has just come home from her Music exam, she hated it. She wants a good grade as she is doing music for A-Levels. Her composition and performance were very good, so hopefully it will all average out in the end.
I'm hiding in the kitchen afraid to mention the word maths!

threesenoughthanks · 06/06/2018 17:22

Thanks Teenmum60. That's very kind of you.

AChickenCalledKorma · 06/06/2018 17:39

DD1 reports that the Music invigilator seemed to find playing a CD an insurmountable challenge and their exam was about 40 minutes late while they tracked down someone with the requisite technical skills to (a) resist the urge to skip tracks when it went quiet or (b) change a cd without disconnecting the loudspeakers.

She was relieved that her complete ignorance of guitar technique wasn't too big a problem and amazed that I knew how some of the popular music extracts went. Given that they were of the everyone-knows-this-instantly-recognisable-song variety I do wonder what she's been listening to for the last couple of years.

AChickenCalledKorma · 06/06/2018 17:43

Sorry your DD had a bad time with music coffee. As you say, hopefully the other elements will compensate. I've also pointed out to DD that everyone probably finds the listening paper hard, by virtue of the very wide range of musical styles and skills. Some bits will be your "thing" and others really won't. DD liked the Mozart but struggled with the pop. Because she's weird like that.

TerfTerfTerf · 06/06/2018 17:46

Thanks for the welcome Smile
Just been at work for a few hours. My boss's son and nephew were loafing about there as they have no exams today, and DS has been out at his gran's, as obviously none of them needs to do anything in preparation for maths tomorrow Hmm

Any of you doing AQA further maths too? Any predictions or experience of what might be in it? It's his last 2 exams in an otherwise empty week so the enthusiasm may have waned by then...
