uuugh complete mental block and melt down over English today (and it was all going so well). Think he's gone backwards from last year and the mock ! We'll get there and I suppose better now than in the exam !!

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 20:20

ellenjane my dgd is considering Warwick Uni!
English is becoming a banned word in our household at the moSad

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 20:23

Thank you all for welcome back and nice to see new faces! (Well namesSmile)
Have missed you lot so bored in hospital, not used to being waited on!

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 20:27

Hope all poorly DC get well soonFlowers

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 20:30

Dgd bent my ear for 2 hours today on what she has revised ( mainly the sciences and math) and I had to sit through Spanish oral presentation about the environmental issues of today. I've no idea if the Spanish was correct though.Confused

mmzz · 05/04/2018 20:49

The MFL presentations are just one minute, right? But are the students also supposed to memorise all their pre-prepared answers to the 5 sets of topic questions too? It is a lot of memorising, if that's true.

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:27

Dgd has memorised presentation speech AND all responses to the 5 themes in Spanish. She has questions and answers all written out.

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:29

I'm not sure how the heck she memorises so much. They won't do all 5 themes in exam think dgd said 2 but I might be wrong there.

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:30

Aren't they given something to study before the exam by the examiner. They have 15 mins prep before exam for it?

mmzz · 05/04/2018 21:33

DS has the Q&A all written out, but he hasn't memorised the answers. He says he's going to, but there seems to be so much of it, that I was wondering if they really had to memorise it all.
From what you've written, Sost, It sounds like they do.

edit: maybe they just memorise the presentation, and roughly what the answers are, rather than every answer off by heart? I mean, some of DS's answers date back to winter of year 10, and his French has got a lot better since then.

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:38

Yes mmzz this seems about right. Dgd is using g some answers from year 10 too.

Brickwork so far

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:40

I think as long as the answers are not too simple he should be fine mmzz. Dgd said the tense is very important. For higher grades you need to use more tenses.

Sostenueto · 05/04/2018 21:46

Off now meds and bed. See all tomorrow.

Oddsocks15 · 06/04/2018 08:19

Morning everyone

DD has been going into school for Easter revision sessions then watching tv/you tube when she gets home. The fancy coloured revision/cards she chose are still in the packet Hmm the practice papers still untouched Hmm

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/04/2018 09:19

Oddsocks maybe those are going to get used once the school sessions are out of the way?
Sostenueto very attractive brickwork - that does look smart! My patio is crazy paving - very, very old crazy paving! It's only good for self-sowing weeds.
Today DS is going to review his science revision so far and the weekend is supposed to be art exam prep time!

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 09:29

Thank you loose for compliment, will continue in a week or two with patio.Flowers

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 09:33

So far Dgd revised 4 units of biology ready for first paper, 3 chemistry and 3 physics. Apparently only space unit left to teach in physics but is only a small unit. Chemistry is a worry but extra sessions at lunchtime for it start when they go back. Practise papers few and far between but Dgd has been going on the internet looking for questions to practise on.

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 09:36

Apparently girls like like doing bright coloured revision cards and notes all fancy according to research oddsocks Dgd colour coordinates all hers too. Maybe it helps the memory process or maybe she's secretly girlie afterall!Grin

BlueBelle123 · 06/04/2018 09:39

DS has been very diligent at getting his exercise in everyday and when I dared to suggest that he gives it a rest today as we have a lot of other things on, so not much time for revision he got very annoyed and said he wasn't going to let revision get in the way of his training!!! Shouldn't that be the other way aroundConfused

Anyway he has been revising everyday and has said that exercise really helps clear his mind, I must admit he doesn't seem at all stressed.

How's everyone else getting on as we approach the half way stage of the holidays!!

Oddsocks15 · 06/04/2018 09:41

I know you are right loose, suppose I’m just feeling a bit meh today.

Time will tell sos

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/04/2018 09:42

Yes, sadly DS isn't interested in fancy revision cards. I find this very strange as I personally would have loved them!Smile
Chemistry is tough, I think - I get the impression from DS1 that you have to get to grips with some weird questions that came down from the old A level syllabus. He did really well in it at the end of Y10 but struggled with the mock paper - his teacher wasn't at all happy with the exam board who supplied it!

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 10:01

Dgd got an 8 in chemistry mock, she finds chemistry easier than biology only because there is so much more info to deal with in biology than chemistry, but she prefers biology to study as she has much more interest in the subject than chemistry ( which she's better at)Confused and is taking biology at A level.

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 10:03

I, too, love colourful notes etc.Smile

Sostenueto · 06/04/2018 10:04

All will be well oddsocks they all have their own ways of dealing with revision.Flowers

Oddsocks15 · 06/04/2018 10:15

Me too sos I guess I can use them if she doesn’t (not sure what for though?!)

Don’t know why, but Science faculty aren’t providing any sessions during the holidays so DD has put her head in the sand with regards to Science. When we went shopping for the coloured cards we stopped by Waterstones and I picked out a few science books only for her to shout at me in the middle of the shop that she plans to do higher paper so pointless buying any books. Apparently she is going to pay the late entry fee to sit higher paper, so I’m leaving it to her to sort out.

Tbh, feeling a bit fed up today of constantly getting shouted out. I know it is exam and friendship stress but just fed up at being used as a “punch bag”. Sigh, sorry ..
