And any other schools you may wish to add... Have used threads from the previous few years as part of my research and ds sat Trinity today! I'm more of a lurker than a thread starter but decided to bite the bullet and offer a hand to hold. Good luck to all dc's sitting exams over the next few weeks! Grin

Thanks for all the encouragement mums . It surely does help to hear from you all . Let’s hope for the best now !

spacecadet48 · 16/01/2018 20:08

Catchmum I would be very surprised if your DS was borderline. To get a call back for the sports scholarship is very impressive as these are very competitive. Stay positive!

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 16/01/2018 20:44

sooo, that was us yesterday - totally unexpected. We had to ask whether he had the right child Grin

Tolacar · 16/01/2018 21:15

THats amazing news SOOO...I'm a bit confused which school you are talking about though, which one is it?

Tolacar · 16/01/2018 21:16

ALso can anyone tell me how you highlight someone's name in these threads??

orangetiger · 16/01/2018 21:48

Thx Firefox1066. Good luck everyone with I/v’s tomorrow... and sorry to all those who haven’t received them.. next time .. true success is built on failure.

AnotherNewt · 16/01/2018 21:48

I was just checking - KGS an 'academic' school has 90% A*/A at GCSE. Emanuel - which has a very different entrance policy, given the number who simply require a bare pass - is just under 80%.

The differences between these schools is slight, and is more about ethos than teaching standards.

sooooooonowwhat · 16/01/2018 22:23

Tolacar it was Trinity Grin and to bold someone's name (I think that's what you mean by tag so forgive me if I'm wrong!) is to put an asterisk on either side of the word so for example:

asteriskTOLACARasterisk

will show up as Tolacar iyswim!

sooooooonowwhat · 16/01/2018 22:26

how funny Meetie, we really ought to have more faith in our dc's! I looked like a total tramp today as I really didn't think I was going to be chatting to anyone. Mr K was very nice wasn't he? Ds also very chuffed and T has always been a serious contender for us so we're going to see how he does on the extra--curricular scholarships and take it from there.

Tolacar · 16/01/2018 22:46

Thanks soo !! 😁

sooooooonowwhat · 16/01/2018 23:00

you got it! Grin

MumOfLL · 16/01/2018 23:19

Many thanks Meetie for sharing how you sold the 10+ to your DS.
I will try to 'convince' DS of the benefits of going to W in Y10 if he is offered a place!

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 07:25

Hi all just wanted a little help my DS was a bit taken back with the poem they had in the whitgift 11 plus paper he just sat anyone know what the poem was? Many thanks if you can help

Emma303 · 18/01/2018 07:49

radmumsie I just asked DS he said there wasn't a poem in his W exam but a passage about a girl complaining about detention or something. Assuming he's remembering the right paper lol x

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 08:01

Thank you very kind of you to ask and reply x

Tolacar · 18/01/2018 08:13

My son can't remember! Sorry...

Wimbles101 · 18/01/2018 08:21

Emma303 I heard about the poem from a friend’s DS - think he was a bit taken aback as hadn’t done many poem comprehensions.

Re the 90% pass rate for KGS - that’s 10% higher than Emmanuel which is a pretty big jump. Ultimately it means they do well wherever. What you’ve got to remember is that KGS has only started getting tougher to get into in the last few years so there will no doubt be another rise in pass rates once that cohort reaches gCSE age. Trinity also looking to compete with more ‘academic’ schools now. When we joined I was asked why we didn’t choose KCS given where we live. So I reckon that’s what they are aiming for. Personally we chose T for the ethos and amazing amenities so there was never really a choice for us 😉

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 08:24

Thank you Smile

spacecadet48 · 18/01/2018 08:52

radmumsie my son had a poem in the W exam. All i remember him saying is that it was a short poem and quite complex and had to go back to it to try and fully understand it. We had expected a poem as there is one in their sample paper but my DS hadn't much experience with poems.

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 09:05

Thank you all we are just anxious as DS don’t get trinity:( and we have an interview for whitgift. As he didn’t get trinity I feel he may not get a place

Wimbles101 · 18/01/2018 09:10

Radmumsie - interview is definitely a good sign. They are completely different schools and have different admissions criteria so just because you didn’t get one doesn’t mean you won’t get the other. 🙏

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 09:14

Thank you that is reassuring. Thank you for all your support.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 18/01/2018 09:40

Rad, I know a few boys from our primary school who didn’t get an interview at T, but were offered places at W and are thriving there.

Like wimbles says, the schools are very different, so please try not to worry too much. Good luck with the interview!

Radmumsie · 18/01/2018 09:46

Really that has also reassured me all the best to all the schools you have all applied toSmile

sooooooonowwhat · 18/01/2018 11:01

Wimbles just checking if you meant KCS Wimbledon and if you chose Trinity over that? KCS also closer to us than Trinity but we loved the happy vibe and down-to-earth feel of Trinity although KCS is a wonderful school too for the right boy.

Re KGS - we were going to choose between KGS and Trinity and decided to apply to Trinity although results wise I think it's much of a muchness so it's down to what you feel is the right environment for your ds. We actually loved the atmosphere at KGS but just felt that Trinity had the edge in terms of space and facilities but with the same warm atmosphere. Rad what pp have said, just because your ds doesn't think he has done so well doesn't mean he hasn't done well enough! And if it's any consolation re your ds not getting an offer from Trinity - it's often down to how they perform on the day and different schools have different requirements - ds sat the KGS 10+ and only managed to finish the Maths paper and only got halfway through English and VR so didn't get an offer, but now offered an academic scholarship at Trinity, so just because your ds didn't get an offer from Trinity doesn't mean he won't get one from W!
