Its 2018....countdown to 1st March secondary school allocations!

Well two months down and two to go to 1st March. I have been fairly chilled since applications were submitted however now that 2018 is here it is creeping into my thoughts more frequently.

We are truly lucky to live in a town with very good secondary schools but I know DD would be heartbroken if she didn't get her first choice (a top 10 non selective girls school).

Realistically we should be virtually sure of a place as if we don't qualify on distance within our feeder school group then she should get a sports aptitude place (she score 10 percentage points higher than the required score for the last 3 years). However a part of me is still nervous as I imagine what if all 200 girls taking the aptitude test got amazing scores too. Logically I know this isn't the case as other girls at her school score 20-25 marks lower than DD but there are only 9 places available so the margin of error is small.

Anyone else beginning to get jittery? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Waspnest this is an RI school too. I've just looked at the allocation data for the county and the schools in our new town are all oversubscribed too.

I thought DS scored fairly highly on the criteria at the school I'm ringing tomorrow (category 2 of 7) but I can only assume there were more in category 1 plus siblings/distance tiebreak.

What LA are you in?

Waspnest · 01/03/2018 02:41

Staffordshire. Hundreds of houses being built locally plus army moving back from Germany.

julz35 · 01/03/2018 02:47

Anybody know what time East Sussex announces the places? This is driving me nuts!

itsazoohere · 01/03/2018 02:50

You and me both.
Certainly not at midnight!

julz35 · 01/03/2018 03:11

itsazoohere Are you waiting on East Sussex as well?

itsazoohere · 01/03/2018 03:26

Yup.
And I know that there is NO chance of me getting the school we want-we had to move, so are out of the area. I really don't think my daughter would do at all well were we live, so am clutching at straws that appeals might work, but I think I'm kidding myself.

itsazoohere · 01/03/2018 03:36

I'm now praying that either the school will be shut or the trains won't be running so that I don't need to do the school run at 7:30-can't see me getting much sleep before then!
This really wasn't this stressful the last few times.

julz35 · 01/03/2018 03:49

I haven’t applied for any schools in the town I live in as they are all shocking. Just hoping I get one of my 3!

FuckYouDailyMail · 01/03/2018 05:36

1st preference here, so relived. Hoping good news for all still waiting.

Trampire · 01/03/2018 05:43

Just woken up to an email sent just after midnight.

1st preference here too. It was probably the sibling element that meant I wasn't nearly as stressed as last time. Still a huge relief though.

HermiioneSnape02 · 01/03/2018 06:03

Where do you live if you have had an email sent out at midnight. I’m in Birmingham and nothing at all. You’d think a big local authority would be doing the same?

emmy4 · 01/03/2018 06:16

I'm in the North East, we got an email 10 minutes ago. 1st preference here.

Trampire · 01/03/2018 06:18

I'm in the South West near Bristol.

gussyfinknottle · 01/03/2018 06:27

We got second preference which is actually my first.

megletthesecond · 01/03/2018 06:34

Second preference here. It was the one DS really wanted though so he'll be pleased. And it's walking or cycling distance so I won't have to pay for bus fair.

HermiioneSnape02 · 01/03/2018 06:38

Congratulations to all who are happy with their places. Us brummies still haven’t heard anything ...

Trampire · 01/03/2018 06:42

Fingers crossed for you Hermione.

Trampire · 01/03/2018 06:43

I think all the Londoners gave to wait until this evening so you're not alone.

HermiioneSnape02 · 01/03/2018 06:49

Thanks Trampire very frustrating

I bloody hate waiting :)

itshappenedagain · 01/03/2018 06:58

We got our first preference! Some friends haven't even got one in there Top 5!

CalmDownAndBreathe · 01/03/2018 07:04

Hope everyone ends this day at a happy note. Finally all that anxiety is over. And thank you all for the fantastic support you showed here.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/03/2018 07:12

So sorry for those who didn't get anywhere today:( how horrible and stressful

And genuinely happy for those with the good news.

Good luck to everyone else

meditrina · 01/03/2018 07:12

It's the whole pan-London and Surry system that goes live on-line at 5pm (and emails are sent out in trances starting then, can take several hours to get them all out).

It's been running that way for several years now, and KittyBelle it has withstood everyone piling in at 5 for several years now.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/03/2018 07:13

Help I'm panicking.
Just collected offer online which has allocated our chosen school, which is also our nearest school. (Luckily where we live everyone gets into their nearest school.)
I've accepted DD's high school place & submitted the form back. Then I get confirmation that I've declined!
I know I clicked on accept as well as clicking on apply for school transport.
Our LEA phone line is open from 8am so I will ring them then.
But until them I'm having kittens arghhhhhh Shock

mamaslatts · 01/03/2018 07:19

I'm also waiting on East Sussex but hoping for a kent grammar place. Good luck to my other sussex mnetters.

It seems about half and half on this thread between those that got something they are happy with and those that didn't. Really feel for those that didn't. I'm dreading the uphill struggle of waiting lists and appeals.
