Its 2018....countdown to 1st March secondary school allocations!

Well two months down and two to go to 1st March. I have been fairly chilled since applications were submitted however now that 2018 is here it is creeping into my thoughts more frequently.

We are truly lucky to live in a town with very good secondary schools but I know DD would be heartbroken if she didn't get her first choice (a top 10 non selective girls school).

Realistically we should be virtually sure of a place as if we don't qualify on distance within our feeder school group then she should get a sports aptitude place (she score 10 percentage points higher than the required score for the last 3 years). However a part of me is still nervous as I imagine what if all 200 girls taking the aptitude test got amazing scores too. Logically I know this isn't the case as other girls at her school score 20-25 marks lower than DD but there are only 9 places available so the margin of error is small.

Anyone else beginning to get jittery? Please tell me I'm not alone.

I'm getting nervous! Have been quietly confident until I saw that document! Our town is a bit of a black hole with regards secondary schools, 12 kids without a preference at our school, I'm really really hoping it's not mine.

Bunnyjo · 28/02/2018 20:50

According to posters on the 11+ site, Solihull have released some emails! Our county is gripped by the beast from the east, so I’m fully expecting our emails to be delayed...

Shattered04 · 28/02/2018 20:55

Elvisola - 12 without a preference! Oh wow. How many in the year group?

Waspnest · 28/02/2018 20:56

Shit, didn't realise it would be this nerve racking. Staffordshire's allocation is out and can someone interpret for me? We are in catchment area but very rural so a few miles out. Website says PAN is 170 but 180 places have been allocated. 103 went to catchment kids, 74 to siblings, 1 SEN/EHCP and 1 child in care. Distance was N/A. Does this mean we've got in under catchment criteria?

Elvisola · 28/02/2018 20:57

Shattered04 60!

HolyShet · 28/02/2018 21:09

I keep pressing refresh on the LEA portal like a fool

There's no such helpful document or stats on admissions there....they do publish the previous 3 years stuff but none of this exciting live data. They used to be pretty sure everyone would get one of their choices but not any more.

KittyBelle123 · 28/02/2018 21:13

MsGameandWatching - think we must be in the same borough as that's the exact same wording I read Confused hoping the Pan London portal can withstand everyone piling in at 5pm.

The wait just seems unbearable now. I'll be getting no sleep tonight!

Those Herts stats are incredibly detailed - I can never find anything like that!

Hersetta427 · 28/02/2018 21:24

Wasp, I think that means that they only offered to catchment children and had so many applicants they didn't get to offer to non catchment children. I don't know if that means you are in as if they rank the catchment kids on distance and you live further away than most you may have sneaked in or not. Sorry.

In our allocation day statistics, they'd only give the distance of the last child admitted if it was over-subscribed - if it didn't fill up then they'd put N/A. Every Council seems to do it differently, though!

gardeningirl · 28/02/2018 21:40

Hi wise ones - just seen the Herts data from earlier!
Anyone let me know what PAN is?
Thank you:)

CremeBrulee · 28/02/2018 21:43

PAN is the Published Admissions Number I.e. how many places the school has available for allocation.

Waspnest · 28/02/2018 21:46

Actually I got that wrong, allocation on distance was 0, furthest distance was N/A. Does that change anything?! Jeez the stress is driving me to eat packets of parma violets (no wine in house) and I'm starting to feel sick.

GrockleBocs · 28/02/2018 22:02

Wasp I think that may mean they didn't have to use the distance criteria in which case tentatively you might be OK.

Waspnest · 28/02/2018 22:08

Thank you. I will keep everything crossed tonight. Hope everyone gets what they want. My only consolation is that next year is a massive year group locally and thousands of houses are being built so it will be even more of a nightmare than this year. At least I won't have that.

Shattered04 · 28/02/2018 22:36

I hope that's positive for you too, Waspnest

Elvisola - wow! 20% haven't got a school they listed. That is pretty bad. I wonder what could have caused that? I can't imagine 20% of parents being that naive or taking a risk..

gardeningirl · 28/02/2018 22:46

Thank you Creme Brulee! Well the Herts stats have given us some hope on one stat and some worry on another - ho hum....
Masses of luck for those finding out tonight - fingers crossed for everyone...

Hersetta427 · 28/02/2018 22:53

Right am off to bed. Good luck to all those who find out at midnight. Hope you get a result you are happy with.

As for everyone else, I will see you tomorrow for the home stretch.

I think someone may have asked upthread, but I couldn't see a reply.
Can anyone tell me the time the East Sussex emails go out?
I KNOW it will be terrible news, and I'd like to be not to be torturing myself checking from midnight onwards!
Good luck to everyone, though.

GrockleBocs · 28/02/2018 23:08

I would imagine that unless it explicitly says you can check online for results, or that emails will come at specific times, then it's safe to say it won't be until after 9am tomorrow when they hit a button to start the offers.

CalmDownAndBreathe · 28/02/2018 23:10

good luck everyone!! Lets them all be happy :)

itsazoohere · 28/02/2018 23:14

Thanks Grockle, I really had no stress with the last two children, but it's suddenly got so much more complicated!
I can't find any info other than that emails will be sent on the first.
I have appeal plans (in my head) ready to go...as futile as it might be.

buckleten · 28/02/2018 23:16

Berkshire portal will not let me log in now, saying error - wonder if it is being updated? Does anyone know if Berkshire happens at midnight or later in the day?

Shattered04 · 28/02/2018 23:17

I'm off myself for the night too - good luck midnight people!

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/02/2018 23:19

Goodluck midnight people will check on and offer my congrats or condolences in the morning

Sweet dreams

bellabelly · 28/02/2018 23:52

Giles, I think you should be wishing people "bonkers dreams" so that we have something to entertain each other with while we wait tomorrow! Grin

Have been logging on to the Kent Portal but it's giving nothing away. Boo.
