Outrageously harsh school reprimands pupils for forgetting a pen

Are these parents serious? Kids crying because if they forget a pen 6 times they get a detention?

SEND YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL WITH A SODDING PEN. AND A SPARE. AND AN EMERGENCY PEN IN A SECRET POCKET IN THEIR SCHOOLBAG.

And breathe.

Send them with a pack of pens so they can lend to friends so friends don't end up 'terrified'

I agree noble even though DD2 is costing me a fortune in pens at the moment

6 times is really lenient compared to dd's school. They sound like snowflakes.

This school is local to me. A couple of weeks ago the local press was screaming about s differebt school being the strictest in the country. They are in different towns and counties (we live right on the border), maybe they are trying to outdo each other.

Pen. It's in the actual name of the school. If kids are worried about forgetting to bring a pen then perhaps they're not ready for big school.

The amount of kids that come up to me at the start of a lesson and say 'I haven't got a pen' like it's my problem.

If your kid is too dumb to remember a pen SIX TIMES then perhaps they cheated on the 11+. They can't all have a learning difficulty.

We are turning out the wettest generation since Noah. And he had the sense to build a fucking boat instead of standing there drowning going boo hoo, nobody told me rain was wet, whilst God rolled his eyes and said Me, these humans I've made will die out unless they belt up. Wankers.

I have lovely memories of teachers lending pens to pupils in return for a shoe. The shoe was returned when the pen was.

6 times in a week sounds pretty lenient - it sounds like a fluffy school. It’s not like they’re being made to vom in a bucket in the corner.

It’s not actually a grammar school - it’s just a legacy name as far as I can tell.

Penistone Grammar is a grammar school only in name. No 11+ in South Yorks/Barnsley LEA.

Just waiting for someone to turn up saying 'you don't know every child's situation. What if they had no electric and living in a squat with a drug addict mother who is in a domestic violence relationship' / some other heart breaking potential story to detract from the fact that being equipped for school is reasonable

Er what are the parents upset about? They forget a pen and nothing at all happens unless they do it 6 times? I'd say that's pretty fucking lenient as systems go... I mean what's the alternative no consequences at all ever?

There's a scene in an episode of Buffy the vampire slayer, where she's preparing her mum for how bad parent teacher night is going to be, and Buffy says her teachers will all agree she always brings a pen to class ready to absorb the knowledge. Apparently this is relatively good performance at some schools

They're children so just forgot how many of the pen forgetters are glued to their phone in life and never manage to forget that Having a pen doesn't affect their brain either so they don't need it to learn. It's yet another rule made up by teachers and schools who are so awful at teaching they need silly rules to make them feel big when they bully children.

Only in name. The school was founded in 1392 and has kept the same name the entire time. It is a rather good comprehensive school. There is no 11+ in the local authority (thank goodness).

At our school not having the right equipment for lessons can reaimt in a reprimand or detention it's classed as being unprepared for lesson.
Can't see anything wrong with that 'miss, I havent got a pen' must drive teachers mad.
It's not unusual it's just sensational reporting

In ours, not having right equipment for lessons (which includes pens) is logged as a minor 'offence' (as are uniform infractions) but if you get more than 3 in a week, or 9 in a term it's detention.

My old geography teacher used to immediately belt anyone who forgot any part of their pencil case contents. I was genuinely scared of him.
