Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

Terrible night's sleep. No idea about DS as he is not here! Leaving in about 30 mins to collect him from camp. Feel both sick and annoyed at myself as this is pointless worry when there is absolutely nothing that can be achieved at this stage! Good luck everyone.

Azure · 24/08/2017 07:08

Good morning and good luck to everyone's DCs. I'm driving DS at 9, then will wait in the car for him to come out. We've been told their envelopes will contain a letter if they need to arrange an appointment to see someone at school, presumably regarding suggested remarks or A level choices. He's staying on at the same school unless he's really bombed his GCSEs, in which case we have no plan. It seems really archaic to have to go into the school to physically collect results in a public place. For those receiving results by email, are teachers / staff available at school to talk to if needed?

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 07:09

2% are supposed to get 9s in English and 3% in maths.

Good luck everyone!

I barely got any sleep and logged on to see my students' results bang on 6am, so sympathies to the parents and students who have to wait!

Eusebius · 24/08/2017 07:18

Barely got any sleep here. Been cat napping since 2.30am. At least DS is snoring. Good luck to everyone.

Teddygirlonce · 24/08/2017 07:18

@HPFA would have thought that figure more accurate TBQH than 10K per subject.

DS up now but says he feels sick so not having any breaksfast. Will be setting off at 8am (school a journey away).

@Piggywaspushed good luck to your DS. I was the same with DD's KS2 SATs results. I really didn't know which way it would go so was prepared for the worst case scenario but got the best one instead - such a relief.

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 07:23

By the way, in case anyone unsure, those leaked Edexcel grade boundaries from yesterday WERE the right ones!

AMilkyBrew · 24/08/2017 07:23

Morning all! I'm feeling strangely redundant here Sad. DD stayed overnight at her friend's house and they are going in together to collect their results, but not as soon as the school opens. She says she'll phone me with her grades, then is planning on going out with her friend. Not only does she not want me to take her to collect her results, she doesn't even want me lurking around in town "just in case". Hoping she gets what she needs for 6th form. Good luck to everyone's DCs Star!

justmumof1 · 24/08/2017 07:26

Poor DS unusually subdued this morning. Hopefully his fav breakfast will cheer him up. Good luck to parents/ carers and students alike!

Teddygirlonce · 24/08/2017 07:26

@AMilkyBrew the same here. Did suggest that we wait nearby but he's having none of it. In a way it's very grown-up of them to do it without parental support - another milestone on their way to becoming independent adults (as long as DS remembers to ask the right questions of the teachers should the need arise!).

cricketballs · 24/08/2017 07:27

noble the subject advisor from the exam board tweeted yesterday our boundaries - tweet was deleted within 30 mins!

Haskell · 24/08/2017 07:30

Presumably embargo is lifted now? My school got a good number of 9s. One pupil got 9 in all 3 reformed subjects. We're not selective but a leafy comp, to be fair.
I am very excited for the pupils- unlike what fleur-de-lis thinks upthread- we are not random strangers. We've had your child for five years, and see them as very important! I can't wait for our pupils to see how they've done, there are going to be many, many relieved young people at our school today. All the staff care about what they get, so that they can get their choices for sixth form and college.

Darkblueskies · 24/08/2017 07:32

i checked my classes' results at 6 so I feel for all the students waiting still!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 24/08/2017 07:39

Another anxious wait here. Feeling a bit sick but must try not to let it show. Lowering expectations in my head......
Good luck everyone.

Thefeelgoodfactor · 24/08/2017 07:41

Good morning and good luck everyone, hope you and your children get all they need to proceed with their chosen path.

As I said earlier, our school opens at 8 but my 'laid back larry' is still sleeping without a care in the world. Oh well, it'll be a mad rush at 8 am anyway I suppose!

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2017 07:41

Checked my class too. Not sure whtehr I should have before seeing DS's results. No rhyme nor reason to my class results and v upset for one boy. Big gaps between lit and lang results for some students across the school - which has been unusual for quite a few years now. But the lit is the thing that has become ridiculously hard and the exam boards really are going to have to look into that, I think.

There were a smattering of 9s at my school - but also a lot of 2s and 1s!

Fortunately my kids who got a 3 and a 4 have done it the right way round for them - ie a 4 for Lang.

DS is up and sitting with me which is unusual - but not speaking. Not sure what he is doing on his phone.

Showandtell · 24/08/2017 07:42

I think this new culture of getting 9s is quite damaging. I struggle with the concept that there might be children who are disappointed with an 8 Confused

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2017 07:43

And ,yes, teachers are definitely not random strangers to your children! A BBC survey once showed us to be the third most important adults to teenagers!

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2017 07:44

I agree show - and that absolutely will happen. We have students who have got a 9 for lang and an 8 for lit and will want to know why!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2017 07:44

Popping in from the going into Year 13 thread to wish everyone luck and to say, don't feel bullied into giving your kids results to people. I was furious when a relative boasted about dds results on her own fb page when I have a policy of just telling people that dd was very happy and got what she needed. I only ever share with people I can trust not to blab or judge.

Footdrama · 24/08/2017 07:44

We are on holiday and 7 hrs behind the uk.

Good luck to all.

Ds is face timing his dad later to get his results.

We went on a walk in rainforest today, and saw a baby sloth, it helped distract him!

GandolfBold · 24/08/2017 07:45

Good luck everyone. I have been awake since 6 after a night spent dreaming about GCSE results.

Haskell · 24/08/2017 07:46

I really don't think ours will be disappointed with 8s- it's still an A* effectively. I think ours were more worried about whether they'd get 5s and above, if they want to do a levels, as many of the 6th forms and colleges have raised their entry levels this time (not sure why- what's different from last year? Except the exams are harder Confused)

hedwig2001 · 24/08/2017 07:46

Struggled to sleep at all. DS up early and out for a walk at 07.00. Going in for results at 09.30.
I swing from being pessimistic, as most of his previous exam results have not been good, to optimistic as he worked so much harder.
I just want it to be over.
